Tarek Fatah is a Canadian Muslim, a writer and broadcaster, who recently published a book entitled, “The Jew Is Not My Enemy: Unveiling the Myths that Fuel Muslim Anti-Semitism”
Fatah’s book attempts to demonstrate that Islamic literature from as early as the seventh century has fueled the hatred of Jews by Muslims; debunks the anti-Jewish writings of the Hadith literature, takes apart the supremacist doctrines “that lend fuel to the fire”, and “reinterprets supposed anti-Jewish passages in the Quran.” In doing so he argues that hating Jews is against the essence of the Islamic spirit.
Born in Pakistan where he was a leftwing student leader and was imprisoned twice for his part in opposing successive military dictatorships, he lived for a decade in the Middle East before moving to Canada in 1987.
In the spirit of our interview with Hazan Afzal (Director of British Muslims for Israel) it is vital that the voices of Muslims who are unabashedly opposed to antisemitism are heard.
