Guardian’s Israel Correspondent, Harriet Sherwood, Still Clueless

This is cross posted by Simon Plosker at the blog of Honest Reporting

The Guardian’s Harriet Sherwood just keeps demonstrating her gross ignorance of the region that she is meant to be covering. In May we caught her mistakenly claiming that Israel’s Knesset and other national buildings were located on Palestinian-owned land.

Prior to that, Sherwood was critiqued by HonestReporting for referring to the Western Wall as Judaism’s most holy site while promoting the Palestinian narrative of the Temple Mount as a primarily Muslim site.

This, despite the incontrovertible fact that the Temple Mount is Judaism’s holiest site.

Evidently, Sherwood doesn’t learn from her mistakes. In an article concerning US broadcaster Glenn Beck holding rallies in Jerusalem, Sherwood writes:

Reinforcing his point, the rally is to be staged in the shadows of the Old City, close to boththe Western Wall, the holiest site in Judaism, and the Haram al-Sharif, also known by Jews as the Temple Mount, which is revered by Muslims.

We don’t deny the attachment of Muslims to their holy sites but Sherwood not only gets her facts wrong but peddles a false historical narrative that denies and delegitimizes Jewish roots in Jerusalem.

See our previous expose of Sherwood’s error and why the Temple Mount is Judaism’s holiest site here.

  1. So we are now expected to belive that Islam came before Judaism?

“and the Haram al-Sharif, also known by Jews as the Temple Mount, which is revered by Muslims.”

No. Harriet. The correct formulation is:

“and the Temple Mount, also known by Muslims as the Haram al-Sharif, which is revered by Muslims”.

A pretty good indication of how brainwashed this clueless idiot is.

    • What she should have said is e.g. known by Christians and/or the western world as the “Temple Mount.”
If she’s going to transcribe, then surely ths site would be Har haBáyith / Haram al-Sharif.

Why, after all, give the Arabic transcription for Muslims but the English version for Jews?

Either way, Sherwood is a complete idiot.

      • Indeed.

It’s not for nothing that the most famous 67 phrase for Israelis is “Har HaBayit BeYadeinou”. (The temple mount is in our hands”.

    • “So we are now expected to belive that Islam came before Judaism?”

Why not? If there’s been a non-Jewish “Palestinian nation from time immemorial” before the arrival of “Zionist colonial settlers,” then reversing the order of Judaism and Islam is par for the course. One good revisionism deserves another.

  2. Jerusalem has nothing to do with islam or Mohammad. The fact of the matter is, as we all know, that Jerusalem is not the place where islam’s prophet ascended heavenwards (if such a thing even ever did happen, that is). This city was turned into islam’s “holy site” by muslim invaders purely for political and military expediency in order to facilitate their Alan Duncan (Land Grab).

With Harriet Sherwood and BBC/Guardian, history began with Mohammad, Jews are the invaders and muslims are the victims. In other words, a complete opposite of the truth. But truth and Sherwood are strangers in the night.

    • Are you similarly dismissive of those who claim that the land comprising Israel was “given by God” to the Jews?
Do you similarly deny that the Temple Mount is a “holy site” to Jews?

    • Rural, that may be the case but David also won it from the “Hitim” so does this make jerusalem less holliar to us?

Religion is how one feels at a given moment in time.

      It’s all malaki…

    • Muslims have also destroyed Hindu holy sites, remaking them, renaming them into Muslim holy sites.

Par for the course when it comes to the “religion of peace”.

And don’t forget that the taliban destroyed the two 1,500 year old Buddahs of Bamiyan Afghanistan.

  3. There’s no doubt that the significance of the Temple Mount in Judaism has been explained to her or at least the attempt has definitely been made. This b**** is just pushing an agenda.

However, there are a lot of people who are legitimately ignorant of the Temple Mount. I’ve had to explain that to several people myself. It’s those kinds of people that are susceptible to Sherwood’s deception.

    • Sir,

Is it possible that you publish here this lady’s e-mail address? I, for one, would be willing to put it to some use. Thank you.

            • I doubt Eli Damri will apreciate you calling him a Palestinian…
