Simon Wiesenthal Center’s 2011 Top 10 anti-Israel and antisemitic slurs

For the last two years, The Simon Wiesenthal Center, a leading Jewish  human rights NGO, has compiled  a list of the top ten anti-Israel and anti-Semitic slurs. The list continues to reflect the growing global anti-Semitism and de-legitimization of Israel coming from mainstream voices. It does not include statements by terrorist organizations, the lunatic fringe, or the government of Iran. These citings should serve as a wake-up call to those who believe that such rants are the exclusive domain of Neo-Nazis and crackpots.

Syrian writer Osama Al-Malouhi

“[Jews] want that sucker of Syrian blood to remain and continue to prey and suck blood. They not only want their security, but also to enjoy the sight of Syrian blood being spilled…. Asking myself why Jewish support of Bashar [Assad] increased after they saw the rivers of Syrian blood this mass-murderer spilled in Syrian towns, an old image leapt to my mind, of Jews bleeding people and using their blood to prepare matzas. Logic does not accept this, but the facts prove it.”

  1. “[Jews] not only want their security, but also to enjoy the sight of Syrian blood being spilled” (Syrian writer Osama Al-Malouhi.)

No, only the blood of sick hate-filled Syrian racists likeOsama Al-Mahouhi. Assad is an evil and brutal dictator, but if he can rid us of a few types like Al-Mahouli he’ll be doing the whole world a favour.

    • it is not and neither are a lot of these on the list.To be anti-semetic you must hate (all) jews and say so.To hate what Israel and Zionism stands for is not anti semetic, in fact amny Israeli politicians and citizens are racist against Palestinians and spout hate, but they do not see this as wrong.Hmmmm huge double standards methinks.Sorry, is that anti -semetic?

      • ‘To be anti-semetic you must hate (all) jews and say so.’

Not really. The matter is much more complicated than that. One could essentialise most Jews, or the largest Jewish community, as evil, while allowing for a few ‘good’ Jews. It seems to me your following line is heading that way.

‘To hate what Israel and Zionism stands for is not anti semetic’

It isn’t necessarily antisemitic, but it certainly can be. And once you start essentialising Israel and Zionism as evil (which you seem implicitly to do), you are venturing into neo-antisemitic territory.

Paleo-antisemites hated Jews as a people, dispersed and dispossessed, throughout the world, as a diaspora.

Neo-antisemites hate Jews as a people ingathered from the diaspora, in the land again.

Paleo-antisemitism, of the 1930s: Jews to Palestine (or anywhere but here, including the next world)!

Neo-antisemitism, of 2011: Jews out of Palestine!

But the sentiment, Juden raus!, is the same.

    • His omission of Abraham occurs because according to +Islamic+ tradition, the main events of Abraham’s life occurred +in Arabia+.

In a sense it is as anti-Christian as it is anti-Jewish.

  2. I have read Wiesenthal and have agreed with mu8ch but not this list as it is staing anti semitism where it is not, although I agree some is.This is not helpful, esp. the Abbas note.

  3. ‘arbeit’ means ‘work’ or ‘labour’, not ‘truth’.

‘The truth shall make you free’ is Jn 8, 32.

That is a careless error for the SWC.

  4. Having said that, Sarah A B has observed that the German for ‘Truth makes free’, ‘Warheit macht frei’, may be a deliberate pun on the Auschwitz slogan, which would be inexcusably vicious, and antisemitic by any other standard. To associate the Gospel so closely with a Nazi term of genocide is also obscene.
