Luckily, Václav Havel wasn’t a Guardian reader

The following was written by Tom Gross at the blog of The Weekly Standard

I first met Václav Havel in 1988, shortly after he had been released from prison and a year before he led his country out of the Communist abyss. As a young undergraduate in England I had decided to travel round eastern Europe that summer, and was given various books and other materials to smuggle to Havel on behalf of Czech dissident friends of his in London. In the years since, especially after I moved to Prague, he occasionally found time to speak to me because, as he said, he was very grateful for receiving those items.

Václav Havel

Havel was a true liberal and understood the nature of communism better than most, which is why so many distinguished people will be attending his funeral tomorrow. But Neil Clark won’t be there.

When it published Clark’s article on Monday, theGuardian was parroting 1970s Soviet-style propaganda.

Clark wrote:

“Havel’s anti-communist critique contained little if any acknowledgment of the positive achievements of the regimes of eastern Europe in the fields of employment, welfare provision, education and women’s rights. Or the fact that communism, for all its faults, was still a system which put the economic needs of the majority first.”

Who needs Pravda when you have the Guardian?

  1. The Guardian pays people who defend genocide, oppression, terror, gulags and tanks crushing students. As long as the tanks are Russian and they cross sovereign borders, they are not aggressors but defenders.

As long as the terrorists are Muslim, they are not terrorists but fighters.
As long as the racists are not white they are not racists but activists.

This paper is an enemy of civilization.

  2. The Guardian provides a platform for any odious anti Western, anti US, anti Israel etc etc etc. It does this under the banner of ‘fair and balanced and includes in its ‘contributors’ some of the most odious people in the world.

On the other hand, it censors factual criticism of Islam.

It is one of the enemies of civilization.

It is a propaganda rag for the extreme radical hard anarchist Stalinist left.

Clark is not “any anti Western etc.”, he and his Hungarian born wife Zsuzsanna are the most disgusting fans of mass murderers and dictatorial regimes. The Guardian publishing their dirt is abusing the memory of tens of millions of murdered and hundreds of millions of opressed persons by those pets of Clarke.
