Fact Sheet: Global March to Jerusalem (GMJ), March 30, 2012

What is the Global March to Jerusalem (GMJ)?

GMJ, scheduled for March 30, 2012, is an anti-Israel publicity stunt that aims to have a million people marching on Israel’s borders from all the surrounding countries – Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt – with the aim of reaching Jerusalem. Concurrently, demonstrations are planned in the Palestinian-administrated territories and against Israel’s diplomatic missions in major cities throughout the world.

Who is organizing GMJ?

The organizers of GMJ are made up of members of Hamas, the Muslim Brotherhood, far-left extremist groups and are backed by the Iranian government. Senior organizers include:

  • Ahmed Abo Halabiya, a Hamas MP who in 2000 gave a sermon saying “Have no mercy on the Jews, no matter where they are, in any country. Fight them, wherever you are. Wherever you meet them, kill them.”
  • Zaher Birawi, a prominent Hamas activist in the UK and senior member of the Muslim Brotherhood linked Palestinian Return Center.
  • Abdul Maqri, head of the Algerian delegation aboard the Mavi Marmara who in 2010 said “all our blood is Palestine” and declared that “Israel will be annihilated soon”.

Advisory board members include George Galloway, Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Mairead McGuire, Mahathir Mohammed and Sheikh Raed Salah.

What are the objectives of GMJ?

Official statements of the organizers of GMJ attempt to portray the movement as a peaceful protest aimed at highlighting the so-called “Judaization of Jerusalem”.

In 2011, GMJ general coordinator, Ribhi  Halloum stated “[t]he protest aims to move the right of return possessed by Palestinian refugees from theory to practice”.

In practice, the right of return is a rejection of the two state solution and subterfuge for the destruction of Israel as the nation-state of the Jewish people. Coupled with that, employment of the term “Judaization of Jerusalem” is hateful rhetoric designed to negate thousands of years of Jewish history and incite the Muslim world.

Haven’t there been attempts to breach Israel’s borders beforehand?

Yes. During 2011 there were two separate attempts to march on Israel’s borders mainly from Syria, one on May 15 and another on June 5, both of which turned violent resulting in dozens of deaths and hundreds injured.

Like every other sovereign nation, Israel has the right to control who enters its borders and to protect its borders from being breached.

Should we be concerned about GMJ?

Absolutely. With a bloody uprising in Syria, a Muslim Brotherhood dominated Egypt, the looming Iranian nuclear threat, a failed peace process and recent renewed violence from Hamas-controlled Gaza, the situation is highly volatile. Combined with the extreme terror groups behind GMJ and the rallying cry of “saving Al Aqsa (Jerusalem) from the Jews”, it is our assessment that with sufficient numbers the organizers will seek violent confrontation with Israeli forces with the aim of sparking a Third Intifada

  1. I think Azzam Tamimi et al. have been encouraging British Muslim students to participate, this weekend at Cardiff University:

‘Does the Arab Spring offer new Solutions for Palestine?’

The language is of a piece with Ben White’s proposing a similar mass incursion/invasion of Israel’s borders.

  2. “Ahmadinejad made the statements during a meeting with participants of the Global March to Jerusalem which is scheduled to take place at the end of the month on the occasion of Land Day. “The Zionist regime is like a malignant cancerous cell, and even one or two cells are enough to infect the whole body,” Ahmadinejad said.

Activists from Indonesia, India and Pakistan visited Iran and are slated to go on to Turkey and from there to Lebanon and then Israel where a rally will be held on March 30. Participants will also include activists from Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and the Palestinian Authority. The march is being organized by non-governmental organizations and is being backed by Iran and Hamas.

Ahmadinejad said it was no longer legitimate for Israel to occupy any part of Palestine. “The Palestinians should be running the field and God willing that will happen soon.”

He added, “Some may think that not much can be done against the Zionist regime with 500 marchers but great things in history began with determined people. No matter how strong the enemies are they will be destroyed and we must prepare for the great day that arrogance will be wiped from the face of the earth.”

  3. I’m sure i’m not the first to suggest this, but the Israelis should mine the borders, announce that they’ve mined the borders ahead of time, and then let the chips fall where they may. As monty python says, cruel, but fair. You don’t get to march into sovereign countries, and those fomenting this disaster waiting to happen remind me of Peter the Hermit and the Children’s Crusade.

  4. “Oh ye of little faith” – Rather than bemoaning the “the Global March ‘movement’ to Jerusalem”, one should really be brimming with excitement in anticipation of what is about to be fulfilled.

Read Zechariah Chapter 12. For what you are actually seeing with GMJ, movement, is a shadow prelude, a warning trailer for what will shortly come to pass. “Behold I will make Jerusalem a cup of trembling upon all the people round about, when they will be in siege both against Judah and Jerusalem!” – “And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem.” – “Behold I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone!”

As for the Guardian and the BBC along with all their ignorant social engineering collectivist who attempt to hide their personal inbred anti-Semitic hatreds behind such statements as “we’re not really anti Jewish, we just hate and despise Israeli Government policies.”

Well let’s remind these disgusting hypocrites of something Malcolm Hay wrote in his 1981 book “The Roots of Christian Anti-Semiticsm” – Quote: “English Anti-Semiticism has nearly always been an under ground movement protected by the pretence that it does not exist. This pretence is facilitated by a proficiency in the art of innuendo, which has been perfected by the severity of the English libel law – Journalists have become as expert in avoiding the charge of Anti-Semiticisn as they are in dodging the law of libel. It has created a technique of abuse, which is not actionable and favours the attacker, often leaving the victim without defence.” – so see the Guardian and BBC for what they are – If the shoe fits wear it!
