Guardian letter by Sarah Colborne & fellow cultists on those imaginary Palestinian ‘political prisoners’

The Guardian’s letters section, July 13th, included the following about G4S – the company providing security for the London Olympics:

While the letter was signed by a veritable Algonquin round table of Israel haters, Sarah Colborne – director of the anti-Zionist cult known as the Palestine Solidarity Campaign – is the star of the show, as she continues to demonstrate a talent for convincing Guardian editors that her malign obsession with the Jewish state is consistent with liberal sensibilities.

Sarah Colborne

The claim advanced by Colborne and her clan of radical “activists”, that there are Palestinian “political prisoners” being held in Israeli jails, is actually not the first time this fiction has been advanced in the Guardian.

In June, I posted about the following throw away line in a report in the Guardian/Observer “Business” section (which no doubt reports, in classical Marxist tradition, on the last desperate breaths of End Stage Capitalism):

“It is against that backdrop that campaigners will make their way to the AGM of security specialists G4S this week, where they will voice concerns on issues as varied as: the death of asylum seeker Jimmy Mubenga while under G4S guard (a decision on whether or not to prosecute will be made soon); charges for security to the Olympic Games (the same margin as usual, says G4S); and the group’s service contract with an Israeli jail that holds political prisoners.”

As I noted at the time, there was no link provided and therefore no way of knowing which Palestinians, being held in Israeli jails, they were characterizing as “political prisoners”.

However, I guess a broad understanding of the term could include Palestinians being held by Israel due to their affiliation with Islamic Jihad and other such terrorist movements –  those sensitive souls whose only crime is their aspiration to murder Jews, and whom those of us who are “political prisoners” of a false consciousness fail to view as  the Jeffersonian democrats they are.

By the way, if you find my characterization of PSC as a cult a bit over the top, take a look at PSC activist  Amena Saleem at an event announcing the launch of an aid convoy to Gaza.  I’ve trimmed the video so that you only see Saleem (for a full minute) as she’s introduced to the raucous crowd.

Creepy, isn’t it? Her expressionless (robotic) affect doesn’t change at all the entire time.

Though, in fairness, the indoctrination she must have gone through to enable her to portray would-be Palestinian suicide bombers as social activists must require the suspension of disbelief, reason and critical thinking – a  level of double-think which would frighten even die-hard Stalinists, such as Guardian associate editor Seumas Milne

  1. I would like to make some further corrections to the Guardian’s article about G4S:

    1. They lost their contract with UKBA for purely financial reasons.
    2. The contract had already been lost before Jimmy Mubenga’s death.
    3. Jimmy Mubenga was a violent criminal who was being deported from the UK – he was NOT an asylum seeker (something that the Guardian has been told).

While none of this is related to the point of the article, I thought it worth pointing out some more of the Guardian’s lies…

    • Thanks for that S – and to Adam for the points made above. What gets me is the shameless and seemingly boundless way the Israel-haters will jump on any bandwagon and use it to shoe-horn in an Anti-Israel rant, no matter how irrelevant the original story is.

      I can see it now:

Sir, as concerned human rights activists, we write to complain about your article “Mum and child injured in egg & spoon race at primary sports’ day”. Palestinian children, oppressed by the brutal Zionist occupation, cannot enjoy the simple pleasures of egg and spoon races due to the threat of being shot in the head by remote control. Further, if they were injured as these poor people in rural England were, they would be denied proper medical treatment due to the illegal blockade and racist roadblocks imposed by gun-wielding Occupational forces and illegal settlers. We demand all primary schools should dedicate their sports days to the suffering of Palestinian children, painting their eggs in Palestinian colours, and changing the sack race into the leg-shackle race in sympathy with their oppressed brethren. Yours loonily.

      • My first reaction to your comment was to laugh uproariously.

My second reaction was to think, “Should we really be giving them ideas?”

        🙂

        • And the Jewish guy being selected to represent Turkey at the Eurovision Song Contest similarly makes a nonsense of those claims of pan-Muslim anti-Semitism – right?

    • I second Gooner’s thanks, S Buckley.

The Groan seems to have a penchant for lying by omission as much as by commission.

    • A number of Palestinians are detained by Israel under “administrative detention”, meaning they have not been charged with any offence. This is a serious violation of international law.

      • Wrong again Nat. Your blessed “international law” and human rights are NOT absolute. They are almost all qualified. In other words, states can remove, for example, the right to liberty, where they are justified in doing so. Such as, for example, where the person in question is a risk to national security or innocent life or where they are accused of committing or planning a serious crime.

We’ve discussed the rights and wrongs of admininstrative detention and its widespread use by democracies around the world, but let’s focus, shall we?

The allegation is that Israel has “political prisoners”, not that they detain suspected terrorists for a time without charge. Different issues.

  2. You’re right. Amena Saleem seems completely lacking in emotion, like a zombie. But to be fair, membership of the PSC does require a complete lack of human warmth.

  3. Cult is minimizing. Anti-semitism had reached the extent of a religion, since the Nationalsocialism and has now a comeback as religion, due to oil money, deteriorating education and internet. Maybe PSC is a sect inside this religion.
When you read Avram, Nat and the other divergently gifted, you see they are believers. That´s why they are unashamed to repeat lies.
There is no open rational discussion with fanatics.

  4. Nat is insulting people again while chastising others for insulting people, which means… (you guessed it) they’re all in serious violation of international law!
