When Israelis can’t be blamed: Tens of thousands of dead Syrians & ‘humanitarian’ flotillas not sent

Graphic and post by Ariel Zinger. (Originally published at the blog, ‘BDS gone bad‘)

Remember the 2010 Gaza Flotilla? Who doesn’t.

Well, another “Humanitarian” flotilla is on its way to Gaza (from Sweden) while Damascus is dying .

Humanitarian flotillas make for great media stages. They are PR events destined to get people to notice the urgent pleas of the downtrodden.

Organizers of the Gaza flotillas claim that such efforts represent acts of humanitarianism, ‘non-political’ acts of kindness benefiting the Palestinian population. They are not against Israel, they claim, but simply for Arabs (in Gaza) who are in need.

However, for over a year now the Syrian people have been the Arabs most in need of aid in the Middle East, and yet the ‘humanitarians’ are nowhere to be seen.

The actual numbers (updated for August 31st, and on a steep rise since) speak for themselves – and can be seen in the Infographic I made.

(Editor’s note: Numbers listed in the graphic represent estimates, based on conflicting figures cited by various reputable sources. Estimates on number of Syrians killed are herehere here, here and here. Refugee figures are here and here. Estimates on number of children killed are here and here. Figures on Syrian detainees/prisoners are here.)

UPDATE: You can read a critique of this post, at the superb blog ‘Simply Jews’, here.

  1. Great infographic Adam. In 564 days they’ve killed about half as many as have been killed in the Israeli/Arab conflict in 64 years.

    • Thanks Margie. That’s a great fact. I hadn’t thought to compare the Syrian deaths to the overall number of those killed in 64 years of Israeli/Arab conflicts.

    • I assume that this story means that Mr Levick is on the verge of leaving for Syria aboard his own flotilla, isn’t he ?

      • Nat, I am amazed that you aren’t organising a flotilla for Syria as I write.

I am sure that ol’ Gorgeous would be glad to give you advice

Not sure, though, whether it’d be worth taking.

    • “However, for over a year now the Syrian people have been the Arabs most in need of aid in the Middle East, and yet the ‘humanitarians’ are nowhere to be seen.”

Were Mr Levick a journalist, he would long have been sent by his paper to go and write a story on humanitarian efforts all around Syria, where humanitarian agencies care for Syrian refugees pouring into Jordan and Lebanon.

He would also know that humanitarian agencies do not send staff in war zones, which is why their personnel inside Syria is currently limited.

      • “He would also know that humanitarian agencies do not send staff in war zones,”

        Really Nat?
So the I.C.R.C. do not send their staff into war zones?

    • Truth be told, there are all sorts of flytilla’s and flotilla’s to Syria. The Russian’s delivered their weapon’s and Iran is flying in weapon’s and it’s “SS” ( Republican Guard’s ) in 747’s.
      http://www.reuters.com/article/2012/09/19/us-syria-crisis-iran-iraq-idUSBRE88I17B20120919

Iran’s imperialism is going rather well. I am sure the Sunni’s are thrilled at Iran’s ever present Islamic humanism.
The ‘imperialism’ the Left kvetch’s about non stop seems to be no problem when it comes from Iran’s mullah’s.

  2. It has always seemed to me that one of the tests in deciding that “criticism” of Israel is antisemitism is the disproportionate attention given to condemning Israel and the silence in the face of the travails of Arabs (other than the “travails” of the Palestinian Arabs). Whenever an Israeli (i.e. Jewish) bullet, however necessarily fired, hits an Arab all hell let’s loose, but Arabs slaughtering Arabs en masse, well that’s just par for the course…

  3. The BDS doesn’t care about Arabs killing Arabs, they only care about Israel being anihilated and their being 23 Arab countries instead of 22.
The BDS cant accept the fact, there will be an Israel not controlled by the Arabs.

  4. “for over a year now the Syrian people have been the Arabs most in need of aid in the Middle East, and yet the ‘humanitarians’ are nowhere to be seen.”

Surely it is possible to oppose both Israeli and Syrian oppression. To suggest that ‘humanitarians’ are ignoring the latter is just nonsense. Two examples:

    – The Guardian (in addition to regularly exposing Israeli misdeeds) reports daily at great length on Assad’s aggression towards his people. Here’s today’s instalment: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/middle-east-live/2012/sep/20/syria-iranian-arms-via-iraq-live

    – Muslim Aid, which was supportive of the Mavi Marmara flotilla: http://www.apheda.org.au/news/files/Muslim%20Aid%20Aust%20STATEMENT%2001-06-10.pdf
is also active in funding support for Syrian refugees: http://www.muslimaid.org/index.php/what-we-do/current-campaigns-live/syria-appeal

    • “Surely it is possible to oppose both Israeli and Syrian oppression. To suggest that ‘humanitarians’ are ignoring the latter is just nonsense. Two examples:”

But we’re still waiting, waiting, waiting for the Groin’s and the “humanitarian’s” reportage and opposition to various Palestinian misdeeds and oppression. Surely it’s possible to oppose PA and Hamas oppression of their people as well as their constant drumbeat to annihilate their neighbor.

      • “But we’re still waiting, waiting, waiting for the Groin’s and the “humanitarian’s” reportage and opposition to various Palestinian misdeeds”

You can read it in the Guardian any day. See:
        http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/sep/19/zakaria-zubeidi-should-be-released
yesterday for example, on the shameful imprisonment by the PA of Zakaria-Zubeidi.

The problem with most CifWatchers is that they don’t seem to actually read the Guardian.

“as well as their constant drumbeat to annihilate their neighbor.”

The PLO/PA has recognised Israel’s right to exist within 1948 borders for at least 30 years. Hamas is certainly open to negotiation on this issue but of course Israelis won’t talk, just as for many years they wouldn’t talk to the PLO, preferring periodic attempts to destroy it along with thousands of civilians.

          • Jeff, your response is non-existant. You don’t attempt to address any of my points. Why waste your time and mine?

            • Why one should adress your lies, creep?
“The PLO/PA has recognised Israel’s right to exist within 1948 borders for at least 30 years. Hamas is certainly open to negotiation on this issue but of course Israelis won’t talk, just as for many years they wouldn’t talk to the PLO, preferring periodic attempts to destroy it along with thousands of civilians.”
Only a complete idiot posts such an assumption at CiFwatch and wants to be adressed, better keep company where you belong to, to the loon world of your terror whisperers, .

                • Anti-semitism is not an opinion after the holocaust, it qualifies as the desire of barbarians to annihilate the rest of the Jews.
                  So why so sensible, anti-Semite?

        • THE PALESTINIAN NATIONAL COVENANT

This is the version of the Covenant published officially in English by the PLO in December 1969, and based on the text adopted in 1964, and revised in 1968.

In his letter of September 9, 1993 to Prime Minister Rabin, Yasser Arafat stated that those articles which deny Israel’s right to exist or are inconsistent with the PLO’s new commitments to Israel following their mutual recognition would no longer be valid. A formal resolution to that effect was made by the Palestinian National Council in 1998, and the Israeli government announced that it was satisfied with that resolution. However no amended version of the Covenant has been adopted or published.

          Article 6:
The Jews who had normally resided in Palestine until the beginning of the Zionist invasion will be considered Palestinians.

          Article 9:
Armed struggle is the only way to liberate Palestine. This it is the overall strategy, not merely a tactical phase. The Palestinian Arab people assert their absolute determination and firm resolution to continue their armed struggle and to work for an armed popular revolution for the liberation of their country and their return to it . They also assert their right to normal life in Palestine and to exercise their right to self-determination and sovereignty over it.

          Article 10:
Commando action constitutes the nucleus of the Palestinian popular liberation war. This requires its escalation, comprehensiveness, and the mobilization of all the Palestinian popular and educational efforts and their organization and involvement in the armed Palestinian revolution. It also requires the achieving of unity for the national (watani) struggle among the different groupings of the Palestinian people, and between the Palestinian people and the Arab masses, so as to secure the continuation of the revolution, its escalation, and victory.

          Article 15:
The liberation of Palestine, from an Arab viewpoint, is a national (qawmi) duty and it attempts to repel the Zionist and imperialist aggression against the Arab homeland, and aims at the elimination of Zionism in Palestine. Absolute responsibility for this falls upon the Arab nation – peoples and governments – with the Arab people of Palestine in the vanguard. Accordingly, the Arab nation must mobilize all its military, human, moral, and spiritual capabilities to participate actively with the Palestinian people in the liberation of Palestine. It must, particularly in the phase of the armed Palestinian revolution, offer and furnish the Palestinian people with all possible help, and material and human support, and make available to them the means and opportunities that will enable them to continue to carry out their leading role in the armed revolution, until they liberate their homeland.

          Article 21:
The Arab Palestinian people, expressing themselves by the armed Palestinian revolution, reject all solutions which are substitutes for the total liberation of Palestine and reject all proposals aiming at the liquidation of the Palestinian problem, or its internationalization.

          Article 22:
Zionism is a political movement organically associated with international imperialism and antagonistic to all action for liberation and to progressive movements in the world. It is racist and fanatic in its nature, aggressive, expansionist, and colonial in its aims, and fascist in its methods. Israel is the instrument of the Zionist movement, and geographical base for world imperialism placed strategically in the midst of the Arab homeland to combat the hopes of the Arab nation for liberation, unity, and progress. Israel is a constant source of threat vis-a-vis peace in the Middle East and the whole world. Since the liberation of Palestine will destroy the Zionist and imperialist presence and will contribute to the establishment of peace in the Middle East, the Palestinian people look for the support of all the progressive and peaceful forces and urge them all, irrespective of their affiliations and beliefs, to offer the Palestinian people all aid and support in their just struggle for the liberation of their homeland.

          • So “no amended version of the Covenant has been adopted or published”, Biodegradable; so what? Arafat withdraws the anti-Israel articles in 1993. Rabin accepts that withdrawal in good faith. Every Israeli negotiator since 1993 has also accepted that the PLO position has changed. But you (perhaps because you don’t want a settlement) prefer to believe that the PLO/PA position remains as it was in 1964. I am tempted to question your sincerity or your sanity but, as ever, I am too polite to indulge in insults..

            • So “no amended version of the Covenant has been adopted or published”, Biodegradable; so what?

Fantastic. Arafat signed and agreement commiting himself to amend this covenant. As usual he lied. Naturally for you sencar the outright violation of the Oslo agreement has no significance – showing your anti-arab racism. – you shouldn’t expect these savages to fulfill their obligations.

I am tempted to question your sincerity or your sanity but, as ever, I am too polite to indulge in insults..

I’m not tempted and don’t question your sincerity and sanity I know the answer already. And you politeness… You are spewing your lies and your hate of Israel very politely no doubt.

    • Yeah, surely it won’t be possible for Syrians to receive their own dedicated refugee agency and surely it won’t be possible for Syrian refugeeism to be perpetuated indefinitely and surely the money that goes to aid Syrian refugees won’t even begin to amount to what has been given to Palestinians. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_MEtQU5x5sE

That’s due in much part because libero-fascists surely can’t think of any child being deserving of aid nearly as much as one who lives under “Israeli oppression.”

    • “surely it’s possible to oppose both Israeli and Syrian oppression”

Dunno. Not seen much evidence, and Israeli alleged “oppression” is hardly akin to the bloodletting and murder of Muslims by Muslims in Syria is it?

As usual, your “research” findings are flawed.

  5. Hey, there was RECENT flotilla aid to Syria. REALLY!!! Granted, it’s not humanitarian aid, okay? But aid, nonetheless! The IHH is sending weapons over to their Muslim Brotherhood friends:
    http://www.thejc.com/news/world-news/81035/flotilla-group-linked-syria-gun-running
The same IHH all our anti-Zionist friends teamed up with in the past. The same IHH that the Groaniard Palsbarists cover for. So anti-zios who cry crocodile tears for Palestinians have something to be proud of!

  6. Oh yeah, for those who don’t remember….the IHH was heavily involved with the ISM, PSC, and BDS bigots in the flotilla disaster of 2010. My favorite picture that sums up what these turds are really all about is this one, showing the anti-zios with their peace-loving, progressive Hamas fiends, err, I mean friends:

  7. 30 more Syrians killed today, possibly 100.
Yet the BDS and IHH continue to not send Flotillas to Syria.
CIFWatch has really shown the real agenda of these groups, which is the elimination of Israel.

Heavy Casualties Reported in Syria Warplane Attack on Gas Station
    KAREEM FAHIM and ALAN COWELL
    September 20, 2012

BEIRUT, Lebanon — At least 30 people, and possibly more than 100, were killed in Syria on Thursday in the northern Raqqa Province, when government warplanes bombed a gas station crowded with people, according to activist groups.

  8. Nir Rosen, Iran’s shill at Al Jazzy must be happy in Beirut. I assume his ‘expertise’ seems to have been overtaken by the never ending butchery in Syria.

  9. I think we call this Apples and Oranges. If a flotilla goes to Syria it is sure to be attacked by the Syrians- on the other hand a flotilla to Gaza is only likely to get attacked or intercepted. Its petty to try and associate to different scenarios as one in the same and question the motives of those involved in either to prove some kind of twisted political point.

    • Mark so your point is that if you take part in a ‘flotilla’ to Gaza you are likely to be intercepted by the IDF, but if you take part in a ‘flotilla’ to Syria you will be attacked by the genocidal thugs of the Assad regime?
That is true, and I agree with that.
