‘Comment is Free’ contributor: Israeli leaders murder Palestinian children to score electoral points

Up to 37,000 people (mostly civilians) have been killed in the Syrian civil war since an uprising against President Bashar al-Assad’s regime erupted 20 months ago.

During the Libyan Civil War, roughly 15,000 were killed.

At least 846 Egyptians (mostly civilians) were killed during the Egyptian revolution – the 3 week uprising which toppled Hosni Mubarak. Many were killed by  police forces “shooting protesters in the head and chest with live ammunition.”

Around 219 were killed during street protests in Tunisia.

The death toll thus far in operation ‘Pillar of Defense’ has been 40 Gazans and 3 Israelis.

But, guess which country Egyptian ‘Comment is Free’ contributor  demonizes as vicious killers of Arabs?

In ‘Gaza is no longer alone‘, Soueif not only advances the insidious narrative that Israel’s operation ‘Pillar of Defense’ was launched by Netanyahu to win an election (a meme parroted by Guardian journalists Harriet Sherwood and Simon Tisdall) but characterizes the conflict as a “killing spree” inspired by Zionist blood lust.

Soueif writes the following, in a post which was highlighted at the Guardian’s ‘live blog’ on the conflict:

“Israel has always sold itself to the west as a democracy in a sea of fanaticism. The Arab spring has undermined that narrative, possibly fatally. So Israeli politicians have been pushing hard for a war against Iran and, in the interim, they’ve gone on a killing spree in Gaza.

If they had wanted to instigate violence against themselves they could not have done better than to assassinate Ahmed al-Jaabari, the Hamas commander who’s prevented attacks on Israelis for the past five years. With his killing they’ve raised the probability of these attacks resuming, as is happening now. They can then try to hijack the narrative of the Arab spring and wind the clock back to “Islamist terrorists v civilised Israelis”. Meanwhile, they take the heat off Bashar al-Assad’s murderous activities in Syria – and, of course, score hawkish points for Binyamin Netanyahu and Ehud Barak before the coming elections.

But they have served to remind the world that Israel is a democracy where politicians may order the murder of children to score electoral points. [emphasis added]

So, for Soueif, murdering Palestinian children is quite popular among the Jewish electorate.

The enormity of this smear – a staggering moral inversion which evidently was unchallenged by Guardian editors – is difficult to even fathom.

Speeches which literally call for the murder of every last Jew on earth have been made by Hamas leaders and other leading Islamist figures – calls for genocide which can be found on several reputable websites.

And, such extreme, homicidal antisemitism isn’t confined to Palestinian leadership, as suicide bombing, for instance, against Israeli civilians remains disturbingly popular among the Palestinian electorate.

In fact, after Palestinian terrorists from the West Bank butchered five members of the Fogel family in 2011 – brutally stabbing to death parents Udi and Ruth and their children aged 11, 4 and 3 months – there was celebrating on the streets of Gaza.

A Palestinian man distributes sweets in the streets of the southern Gaza town of Rafah to celebrate murder of five Israelis (Getty Images)

Not only is there no celebrating on the streets of Tel Aviv or Jerusalem when Israeli strikes against Hamas terror targets inadvertently injure or kill Palestinian civilians, but the IDF goes to great lengths to avoid civilian casualties during anti-terror operations.  This is one of the reasons why, according one leading British military expert, the ratio of civilian deaths to combatants killed in Gaza wars has been unprecedentedly low.

While there are no Israeli electoral benefits for causing Palestinian civilian casualties, you have to wonder which political crowd Guardian editors are trying to appease by sanctioning Soueif’s hideous smear against the Jewish state.

  1. I think it may be worth counting up all the articles CiF has done so far on the topic- Mindblowing amounts, ranging from fairly neutral to ridiculously anti-truth (and Israel)
As to the killing of children stupid point scoring. Unless you are anti all war sadly the innocent die.
Thirdly I am actually becoming interested in why a BBC cameraman called Jihad was near a anti-terrorist airstrike.

    • So far six Palestinian children age 10 months to 15 years have been killed in Israeli airstrikes on Gaza, 60 injured, and counting.

      • Indeed War is not pretty, and many innocent German children died in WWII. By the way, at least one of those you mentioned was killed by a Hamas rocket falling short.
And most tellingly you do not mention the Israeli children. Probably because you think Jews are sub-human.

      • I recall Nat that you challenged CIF watch contributors to identify Israeli civilian casualties caused by the rockets implying that they were harmless(fun). A daft proposition that did not warrant a response. But what about Hamas missiles targeting and successfully killing an Arab boy, held up by the Egyptian PM and Hamas PM to be just another victim of Israel’s. Well it has turned out to be a false accusation. The Sunday Telegraph has clarified for us the truth:

“But there were signs on Saturday that not all the Palestinian casualties have been the result of Israeli air strikes. The highly publicised death of four-year-old Mohammed Sadallah appeared to have been the result of a misfiring home-made rocket, not a bomb dropped by Israel.
The child’s death on Friday figured prominently in media coverage after Hisham Kandil, the Egyptian prime minister, was filmed lifting his dead body out of an ambulance. “The boy, the martyr, whose blood is still on my hands and clothes, is something that we cannot keep silent about,” he said, before promising to defend the Palestinian people.
But experts from the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights who visited the site on Saturday said they believed that the explosion was caused by a Palestinian rocket.”

        Friendly fire?

So these rockets are lethal after all Nat. Now you know.

      • In other words, Israel is managing to carry out airstrikes that have a high success rate of hitting combatants and avoiding civilian deaths. Otherwise that number would be much, much higher.

Still tragic, but a tribute to Israel’s attempt to fight an ethical war.

  2. The cynicism of Souheif is absolutely breathtaking.

As a senior CNN reporter said in January 2009, this is the determinant of the news we see about Hamas on our screens and in our newspapers:

And right now you could make a real case that the message that’s coming out is one that’s essentially controlled by people that are perhaps more partisan to the situation inside the Gaza Strip than a lot of international journalists.

COOPER: Inside Gaza press control by Hamas is heavy-handed. There are few press freedoms inside Gaza, and Hamas controls who reports from there and where they can go.

While pictures of wounded children being are brought to hospital are clearly encouraged, we rarely see images of Hamas fighters or their rockets fired into Israel.

In trying to shape public opinion, both sides know the importance of pictures, and both sides want to shape the story those pictures reveal.

  3. Soueif’s smear about child-murderers needs to go to the PCC right? I hope the CST get onto this, they won’t let themselves be bullied by the Guardian.

  4. We are so used to all the anti-Israel bashing that we do not flinch at the news reports…………There is only one country in the world, and thats Israel, so all the fault lies in Israel, not the other terrible regimes. The trouble is that the masses and uneducated believe all the dribble that is fed to them about Israel. Its up to us all, each and every Jew, who cares about Israel, to know the facts and keep on correcting these terrible lies, Israel has enough on her plate to cope with, stand up and be pround Jews.

  5. It is an alteration of this old Christian notion which is now common in the Arab world
But no, it isn`t Anti-semitism, as according to the German and Austrian media during Cast Lead when making news with children, it is only crititcal of Israel.
What more needs to be said?

  6. So what else is new? Arab kills Arab – normal, not newsworthy.
Arab kills Jew or Christian – sad, not newsworthy.
Christian kills Arab – sad, not newsworthy.
But when Jew kills Arab (even if inadvertently) – FRONT PAGE NEWS!

News sells advertising space. Pictures are worth 1000 words. Most are taken by Gaza based Arabs.

  7. Soueif believes Israel should just let his fellow Muslim terrorists fire hundreds of missles at Israeli civilians.
Hamas fires these missles behind children and fires these missles at Israel civilians. Its a double war crime Hamas is doing.

The PA is poisoning its children against Israel
Following the murderous terrorist attack on Kibbutz Metzer in 2002, the PLO cold-bloodedly stated on its official website, “We will continue to strike in any place, targeting their children as well.” Five innocent Israelis, including a mother and her two little boys, were butchered in that attack, all of them, Fatah said, “Zionist colonizers” killed in a “qualitative operation in the settlement of Metzer.”

Here’s how the official Palestinian Authority newspaper Al-Hayat al-Jadida headlined its coverage: “Five Israelis killed in an attack on the settlement Metzer.” The report continued, “A Palestinian infiltrated the settlement Metzer and opened fire on the settlers.” It is not well known that the Palestinian press frequently refers to towns in Israel, such as Holon and Kiryat Shmona, as “settlements.” Besides implying that all of Israel is an illegitimate colonial outpost, such references clearly are brought to justify the killings and distinguish them from terrorism.
After the Tel Aviv massacre on January 12th 2003, where 2 Palestinian homicide bombers massacred 23 Israeli civilians. The PLO web site posted a statement — celebrating the attacks:
“With faith in the calling of holy jihad,” it said, “two suicide attackers . . . succeeded this evening to infiltrate the Zionist roadblocks and to enter the heart of . . . Tel Aviv and carried out two consecutive suicide attacks… These suicide attacks caused a large number of fatalities and casualties in the center of the Zionist occupation of our land. We swear before our people that additional suicide operations will occur.”
That is a view with which much of Arab opinion concurs., for example, datelined its story on the Tel Aviv attack “Palestine-Israel,” and reported that the bombings had killed “23 Israeli settlers.”
One day after the Ramallah lynching of two Israelis, Ahmad Abu Halabiya, a member of the PA-appointed Fatwa Council, called on listeners to find and butcher Jews “no matter where they are, in any country. Fight them, wherever you are. Wherever you meet them, kill them.”

  8. No Jewish nation can be at peace when it is surrounded by Islamofascists. The question you should be asking is there a day in history when muslims have ever been at peace with non-muslims?

  9. Israel doesn’t target civilians. That’s an Arab specialty.
Killing civilians never goes out of style for the Arabs, nor does Palestinians using civilians as human shields.

Why does Hamas send rockets from a school at Israel praying that the other side return fire and kill some of it’s children. Thats Gaza today. The Arabs are the only people in the world that go out day by day figuring ways to get their children to die in front of the world press.

Because the Arab world and Islamic world solve all their problems by blaming it on the Jews.
The Muslim world is so stupid, they believe in the Mossad Shark, Mossad Vulture, 4000 Jews not showing up at the World Trade Center.
The Muslim world also supports the Fakestinians firing behind children at Israel children. Israel is dealing with sadists here in this Satanic verses religion.

Egyptian president’s adviser describes Israel as ‘occupied Arab Palestine’‘This will remain its name till the end of time,’ aide to Morsi says in response to a question on Cairo’s future relations with Israel
    Elhanan Miller
    Sep 20, 2012

An adviser to Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi on Sunday said “removing the constraints of the Camp David [Peace] Accords” with Israel is a top national priority, and referred to Israel as “occupied Arab Palestine.”

In an interview with Egyptian daily Al-Youm A-Sabi’, Mohammed Saif Al-Dawla, an Arab nationalist and Morsi’s adviser for Arab affairs, said that the Mubarak regime provided Israel with “free services” which will not continue under the new regime.

“There is land on Egypt’s eastern border called occupied Arab Palestine,” said Saif Al-Dawla in response to a question on Egypt’s future relations with Israel. “This will remain its name till the end of time, and this is a national principle as well as a historic truth.”

Saif Al-Dawla said that in the Camp David peace accords signed with Israel in 1979, Israel’s national security was given precedence over Egypt’s; noting that 150 kilometers of Sinai territory must remain clear of Egyptian military forces under the terms of the treaty, whereas Israel is only obligated to a 3-kilometer demilitarized strip. He added that the Camp David peace accords implicitly overpower the joint Arab defense treaty.

A spokesman for Morsi, Yasser Ali, denied last Wednesday that Saif Al-Dawla’s support for amending the peace accords with Israel represented government policy.

“There is currently no reason to amend the Camp David agreement. Egypt has all it needs to impose its control over Sinai,” Ali told Egypt’s official Middle East News Agency, adding that Saif A-Dawla’s stance on the issue was his own and was not shared by Morsi.

On Sunday, Israel’s Housing and Construction Minister Ariel Attias responded to Saif Al-Dawla’s remarks by noting that Morsi had publicly defended the peace accords on more than one occasion.
Attias added, in an interview with Israel Radio, that statements by Morsi’s adviser should thus be of little concern to Israel.

Hamas missile launch pad next to mosque, playground. Civilian factories, gas station also half a block from Fajr-5 firing site.
    Aaron Klein
    November 16, 2012

A missile launch site in the Gaza Strip was set up by Hamas just half a block from a mosque and children’s playground, according to aerial photographs provided to KleinOnline by the Israel Defense Forces today.
Israel yesterday carried out a surgical strike of the site in question – a Fajr-5 missile launch pad established in the heavily populated Zeitoun district of Gaza to fire long range rockets into the Jewish state.

The photograph of the launch site, posted above, shows a children’s playground and a mosque located about a half a block away as well as two civilian factories and a gas station also within a half a block radius. Earlier today, the Iranian-backed Islamic Jihad group claimed responsibility firing Fajr-5 missiles aimed at Tel Aviv.

Also today, one rocket launched from the Gaza Strip landed in Rishon Letzion, some 7 miles south of Tel Aviv. About three hours later another explosion was heard in the Tel Aviv area. Defense sources said the second explosion was a missile that landed in an open area.

No casualties were reported in either the Tel Aviv or Rishon Leztion areas. Since yesterday, Israel’s Iron Dome anti-missile defense system has intercepted 105 rockets, while 274 rockets have struck Israel, mostly in Jewish cities near the Gaza Strip. Three Israelis were killed today by a direct rocket hit on their family home in the Gaza border town of Kiryat Malakhi. A four year old Israeli boy and an infant were moderately wounded in separate rocket attacks.

The escalation began last week, when Hamas and other Gazan groups fired more than 120 rockets and mortars into Israel during a four day period.
