A Guardian Left extremist mourns Israel’s continued existence

 A guest post by AKUS

Joseph Massad

If we could vote on it, I suspect that his Nov. 30 essay at CiF, The UN vote to recognise Palestine legitimises a racist status quo, deconstructed by Adam Levick at The Guardian approved malice of Joseph Massad, would beat out articles by such worthy contenders as Ben White, Chris McGreal, and Hamas spokesmen for first place in its sheer outpouring of racist hatred towards those who he terms “colonists” – Jews who settled in Israel.

Massad managed a truly imaginative job of rewriting history in one column. According to Massad, Arab armies did not invade the new Jewish state to tear it apart at birth – they “intervened to stop the expulsion” of Palestinians.

Not for him are the records of Jewish mayors begging Arabs to stay, or Arab leaders urging Arabs to move aside to better enable the slaughter of the Jews, the census results recording the massive influx of Arabs from other countries to partake of the growing economy of the Jewish towns and farms of the Mandate.  It’s all very simple and clear in his mind. Indigenous Arabs were expelled by colonist Jews, to become 6 million refugees (or even 12 million, later in his article).

In line with his teachings that Zionists are now the true anti-Semites, and Arabs their “victims”, Massad even managed to work in a comparison of “Palestinian refugees” to those who perished in the Holocaust – now there are “six million other [Palestinian] refugees”, a marvelously convenient number echoing the Holocaust that presumably includes every “refugee” living comfortably and teaching at American Universities, like Jordanian-born Massad himself.

Nevertheless, if there is one group of people Massad loathes more than the Jewish “colonists” in Israel, it is what he terms the “collaborationist Palestinian Authority”. As the vitriol drips down the screen, it seems that he hates them even more than Hamas does. Ismail Haniyah might, for the sake of political expediency, shake the hand of Abbas, even kiss him on both cheeks, but one feels that Massad would never be trapped into such a glaring surrender of his principles.

And therein lies a strange kernel of truth that this excoriator of Zion reveals about the recent UN vote on “Palestine”. Like Balaam, he came to the Guardian to curse Israel and in the end, blesses her and curses the PA.

Massad writes:

“Yesterday, the general assembly voted to admit Palestine as a state with observer status. Despite assurances to the contrary, the new state is likely to undermine the status of the PLO at the UN. Whereas the PLO represented all Palestinians, the PA only represents West Bankers. This recognition has diminished the Palestinian state geographically from 43% of historic Palestine granted by the partition plan to less than 18% of it (possibly 10%, if we factor annexations, settlements, military areas, etc), and has reduced Palestinians from 12 million people to 2.4 million West Bankers, 40% of whom are refugees.

The vote is essentially an update of the partition plan of 1947, whereby the UN now grants Jewish colonists and their descendants 80-90% of Palestine, leaving the rest to the native inhabitants, and it risks abrogating the refugees’ right of return.” [emphasis added]

Leave aside the false arithmetic that ignores the existence of Jordan as part of the former mandate territory of Palestine, thus inflating the  percentage of land grabbed by those greedy colonists, the miraculous growth in one article from six million to 12 million Palestinian (see next excerpt), and observe how he mourns what he sees as the monumental blundering away of his version of what  “Palestine” should be. The PA has created “West Bankers” rather than “Palestinians” — and, worse yet, implicitly endorsed the acceptance of the existence of that racist state of Israel and reaffirmation of by the UN of the 1947 partition plan!!

Massad’s racist summation of his article was a masterful example of Hamas reasoning and a revelation of the desire to take over the thriving, prosperous state of Israel rather than have two non-viable statelets competing for the title of “Palestine” (I leave out some of the most racially charged parts of his concluding diatribe):

“By recognising a diminished Palestinian state, the vote effectively abandons the UN understanding of the “Jewish state” as one that has no right to discriminate against or ethnically cleanse non-Jews….  The Palestinians, however, whose majority is not represented by the PA, will no more heed this new partition plan than they did the last one and will continue to resist Israeli colonialism until it comes to an end and until Israel becomes a state for all its citizens with equal rights to all regardless of national, religious, or ethnic background”.

But let us focus on the positive. This hatemonger concludes that:

  1. The UN (again) recognizes Israel’s right to exist (which every country has, but thanks anyway)
  2. Recognizes that the “West Bankers” can only lay claim to some part of the West Bank and denies them (and presumably Hamas and this spokesman) the “right of return” and the “right” to take over Israel, even as he still desperately clings to the delusion of a “one state solution” and believes he speaks for those heedless Palestinians not represented by the PA.
  3. Appears to think that the “West Bankers” will only get a statelet on the West Bank and not some geographically bizarre confederation with Gaza (perhaps he needs to consider the “Jordanian option?)

If Massad is to be believed, perhaps this second November 29th was as good a day for Israel in the General Assembly as the one 65 years ago!!

  1. Massad doesn’t want a two-state solution, he doesn’t even want want a one-state solution, he want the Final Solution!

    • Is it the case that if I disagree with what you are saying I am a) Antisemitic, and b) A mass-murderer.
If so could you tell us which prescription drugs you are taking and whether you need a renewal.

      • An Anti-Semite dressing up as doctor, beware!
But at least there is something in this Anti-semite fantasy which reminds us of the NS who also searched for “remedy”.

      • What you really want is the end or complete annihilation of the jewish State of Israel.
In your aguments you cannot ace up to the reality that 1,000,000 Jews were made stateless refugees in the Arab world. the few thousand that remained were used as ammunition against Israel. The Arabs definitely committed thnic cleansing of the Jews of the Arab world, however today in israel 20% of the entire population are Arab citizens of israel around 1.5 million. In the Arab world today barely 4,000. what do you have to say to that!!!!!

  2. “According to Massad, Arab armies did not invade the new Jewish state to tear it apart at birth – they “intervened to stop the expulsion” of Palestinians.”

Let’s turn that on its head. How do you reconcile the fact that the ethnic cleansing of Palestine began in November 1947 after the UN vote, not in 1948 after Israel was unilaterally declared to exist?

“Not for him are the records of Jewish mayors begging Arabs to stay, or Arab leaders urging Arabs to move aside to better enable the slaughter of the Jews”

A minority of Jewish mayors opposed the ethnic cleansing, it is true. And the myth of Palestinians being told to leave to make the job easier for the “invading armies” has been obliterated to the point where only those suffering from nationalism still believe it.

“It’s all very simple and clear in his mind. Indigenous Arabs were expelled by colonist Jews”

Isn’t it kind of obvious? Zionism was a settler colonial project bent on establishing a Jewish state in an area of the world which was overwhelmingly non-Jewish. Without the ethnic cleansing, it would have been a Jewish state with a Jewish immigrant minority lording it over an indigenous Arab majority – you can ruminate on the comparisons with South Africa here.

“The UN (again) recognizes Israel’s right to exist (which every country has, but thanks anyway)”

Actually, no state has that right. Israel is alone in demanding recognition of this right. And if you believe Israel, considering the lengths Israel has gone to in opposing the recognition of a Palestinian state, it would seem that every state on Earth EXCEPT Palestine has a right to exist.

If Abbas was smart, he would immediately offer all of the colonists in the illegal colonies in Palestine Palestinian citizenship.

    • Israel does not have the right to exist as a state where one the superiority of one race over all others is enshrined in law.

    • I react by saying that there was not ethnic cleansing, there has not been ethnic cleansing, and therefore your whole unnecessarily long spiel is based on a false premise and therefore need not be taken seriously.

  3. the ethnic cleansing of Palestine began in November 1947 –
Well, apart from the 7 million Arabs who still live in the region.

has been obliterated to the point –
    Any references please?
I suspect many will disagree with you,(but not Arab nationalists obviously.)

you can ruminate on the comparisons with South Africa here. –
    No.You can,and clearly do.
Jews have lived in the region for millenia, unlike Western Imperialists who invaded South Africa.
What are your views on Muslim/Arab colonialism, occupation by the way?

If Abbas was smart, he would immediately offer all of the colonists in the illegal colonies in Palestine Palestinian citizenship. –
He has clearly stated that some will be unwelcome in a future Palestinian state,so your premise is nonsensical.

    • Yeah the map is really clear and helpful. A nice big cross too! Have you read Graham Greene’s ‘Journey without Maps’?

  4. Avram Meitner how many Muslims have been killed by Muslims this week in Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Bahrain, Lebanon, Somalia, Yemen? How many have been killed by Jews? Numbers please.
Palestinians should get one thing into their heads: the world does not revolve around them. They share the blame for their situation, because they always wanted everything and never wanted to compromise. First and foremost that NOBODY, and least Israel owes them anything.

The Palestinians knew that Jews would be the majority in Israel, thats why Palestinian Nazi leader Hajj Amin Al Husseini formed an alliance with Hitler that stated all Jews must be exterminated.

    As Caroline Glick said.

On November 28, 1941 the religious and political leader of the Palestinian Arabs and one of the most influential leaders of the Arab world Haj Amin el Husseini met with Adolf Hitler in Berlin. Husseini had courted the Nazis since just after the Nazis rose to power in 1933. Husseini was forced to flee the British Mandate in 1937 when he expanded his fourth terror war against the Jews, that he began in 1936 to include the British as well.

He fled to Lebanon, and then in October 1939 he fled to Iraq. In April 1941 he fomented a pro-Nazi coup in Iraq. As the British — with massive unheralded assistance from the Jews from the land of Israel — were poised to enter Baghdad and restore the pro-British government, Husseini incited the Farhud, a 3-day pogrom against the Jews of Baghdad that took place over the festival of Shavuot. 150 Jews were murdered. A thousand were wounded and 900 Jewish homes were destroyed.

With the coup defeated and the Jews murdered, Husseini escaped to then pro-Nazi Iran and then in October to Germany by way of Italy. (He was flown out of Iran on an Italian Air Force plane, and feted by Mussolini when he landed in Rome).

He arrived in Berlin and two and a half weeks later he had a prolonged private meeting with Hitler. There, on November 28, 1941, two months before the Wannssee Conference, where the German high command received its first orders to annihilate European Jewry, Hitler told Husseini that he intended to eradicate the Jewish people from the face of Europe.

Husseini remained in Berlin through the end of the war and served as a Nazi agent. In Berlin he broadcast daily diatribes to the Arab world on German shortwave radio in Arabic. Specifically Husseini exhorted them to kill the Jews in the name of Allah and make common cause with the Nazis who would deliver them from the Jews, the British and the Americans.

In 1943 Husseini organized the Hazhar SS Division of Bosnian Muslims. His division carried out the massacre of 90 percent of the Bosnian Jewish community of 12,000.

In 1920 Husseini personally invented what later became known as the Palestinian national movement. He shaped its identity around the sole cause of destroying the Jewish presence in the land of Israel.

During the war Husseini used his broadcasts to shape the political and religious consciousness of the Muslim world by fusing Islamic Jew hatred with annihilationist Nazi anti-Semitism. Whereas much of the Nazi anti-Semitic ideology was discredited in postwar Europe, it has remained the single most resonant theme of Arab politics since World War II.

In 1946, as his fellow Nazi war criminals were being tried in Nuremberg, Husseini made a triumphant return to Egypt where he was welcomed as a war hero by King Farouk, the Muslim Brotherhood and the young officers in the Egyptian army who fused Nazi national socialism with the Islamism of the Muslim Brotherhood and took over Egypt after deposing Farouk in 1951.

The founder of Palestinian nationalism’s singleminded dedication to the genocide of Jewry brings us to the second notable but forgotten anniversary we passed over this month.

On Nov. 12 1942 the British led forces — with the massive and unreported support of Jewish commando and engineering units from the land of Israel — defeated Germany’s Afrika Corps led by Gen. Rommel in the second Battle of Alamein. With the German defeat, the specter of a German occupation of the Middle East was removed. Husseini and Himmler had planned that under German occupation, the Arabs would expand the Holocaust to the 800,000 Jews of the Arab world and the 450,000 Jews in the land of Israel. To this end, the Germans had organized the Einzatzgruppen Afrika unit attached to Rommel’s army. Under the command of SS LTC Walter Rauff, it was tasked with murdering Jews located in the areas that were to come under German occupation.

It is fitting that yesterday, on the anniversary of Hitler’s meeting with Husseini, Germany announced that it would not oppose Husseini’s heirs’ bid to receive UN recognition of a Palestinian state that seeks Israel’s destruction.

  5. Avram Meitner has always supported the Arab ethnic cleansing of all the Jews in the Mideast. A great link which shows the truth.

    • Your comments show that you are not serious about welfare of Jewish refugees from Arab lands. So how can we expect you to sympathise with refugees in general? This is cynical exercise where Jewish refugees are used as a stick to beat so-called antisemites.

      • And do you think anyone here believes YOU are serious about your “concern” with palestinians? We know that you, as all so-called anti-Zionists only use pals as a mask to hide your petty Jew-hatred.

      • You wish the death of millions of Jews and now you play the moralist’ tune as if you would like only one Jew to escape your wish?
Well, Anti-Semites are hypocrites by nature.

  6. How does Avram wake up and support these Palestinian fascists?
PA radio song praises suicide bombings against Israelis
by Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik
    Dec. 5, 2012

PA radio song praises suicide bombings against Israelis:
“We are bombs when the homeland calls…
    We strapped ourselves with explosives…
and praised Him [Allah] for the Martyrdom”
Itamar Marcus and Nan Jacques Zilberdik
Voice of Palestine radio has broadcast a song glorifying suicide bombings targeting Israelis. The song on the official Palestinian Authority radio station was played two days after the PA was granted observer status at the UN, and included these words:

“We are bombs… the enemies were beheaded… Grieve not, Mother, shed no tears over my torn flesh… heroic men who mock death… We praised the Lord, and set out for Martyrdom (Shahada). We strapped ourselves with explosives, and trusted in Allah… Onward men, on the roads to glory.”

The song also glorified Martyrdom (Shahada – death for Allah) in general, and praised Allah for the opportunity to die for Him:
“We trusted in [Allah] the Merciful and praised Him for the Martyrdom (Shahada)”
The song presented suicide bombings that killed Israelis as worthy Islamic religious deeds. The song described leaving for the suicide bombing with the words: “We praised the Lord, and set out for Shahada.” According to Islamic belief, Shahada – Martyrdom death for Allah – is a lofty achievement. The Shahid – the Martyr – is rewarded by Allah with Paradise. Since suicide bombings are portrayed as a way to achieve Shahada, killing Israelis in suicide attacks is presented in the song as the fulfillment of Allah’s will.

Palestinian Media Watch has documented the PA policy of promoting Martyrdom death for Allah.

Another religious component in the song was the call to “sacrifice oneself,” which imitated the language of the Muslim call to prayer:
From the Muslim call to prayer:
“Allah Akbar (Allah is Greater)… Come to prayer”
    From the song:
“Allah Akbar (Allah is Greater)… Come to self-sacrifice”

The following is the transcript of the song on official PA radio Voice of Palestine:
    Introductory narration of song:
“We have accepted [our] death, so that Jerusalem will return
We are bombs, friends, when the homeland calls
My heart, with fury, exploded and scattered
The shrapnel of this life flew and the enemies were beheaded
Grieve not, Mother, shed no tears over my torn flesh
Gather [my] bones, Mother, return them to the earth…”

    Palestinian singer, Abu Arab:
    “Allah Akbar (Allah is Greater)!
If you summon: “Come to self-sacrifice”
You will meet heroic men who mock death…
We praised the Lord, and set out for Martyrdom (Shahada)
We strapped ourselves with explosives, and trusted in Allah
Carry the load, heroes, show disaster to the settler
Neither day nor night will be sweet for him – until he leaves us.
Raise your fire. Raise! Burn the settler with it.

For the sake of Jerusalem and our holy place
    We strapped ourselves with explosives
We trusted in [Allah] the Merciful and praised Him for the Martyrdom (Shahada)
Onward, onward, men, on the roads to glory…
We praised the Lord, and set out for Martyrdom (Shahada)
We strapped on the explosives, and trusted in Allah.”
