This video clip might just upturn the way people think about the conflict

Cross posted at This Ongoing War, a blog edited by Arnold and Frimet Roth

We hope the imagery below has gone viral by the time you see it here.

The caption on the LiveLeaks site where we first saw it says very little about who is behind it or their goals. But that’s less significant than might appear to be the case at first. Though they participants are speaking Arabic, you don’t really need to get into the meaning of their words to fully comprehend the message on show here.

What the people in front of the cameras and behind them have discovered, and which far too few in Western countries understand, is that if you take yourself seriously enough while inventing an entire narrative and looking injured and/or offended, practically no one is going to object or reveal the truth. In other words, Pallywood (“a bustling industry of alfresco cinema“, according to the man who coined the term).

It has been a standard part of news coverage here in the Arab vs Israel conflict for at least a decade. It’s in evidence . Faked photos (sometimes call fauxtography), faked clashes, faked injuries, faked deaths, faked dramatic poses, faked arguments and faked responses.

Take a look at the whole two-minute clip:

Now, while it’s still freshly planted in your mind, would be a good time to take a look at the aldurah.com website, and the ground-breaking, 18-minute video “Pallywood: According to Palestinian Sources” (2008), the work of Prof. Richard Landes.

  1. Excellent catch . Just call it Arabwood.
Leni Riefenstahl would be proud of this if she was still around . As well as being ‘film directors ‘ these people come straight from ministry of propaganda . Al Dura faked . Why not ?
The BDS goons have their own reference points having being exposed to Marxist propaganda techniques at their week end workshops .
Tell a lie big enough and often enough and it becomes the truth and a photo is worth 10,000 words

  2. Which “excellent catch”? This is just nonsense. I know this must be quite shocking, but the video is just showing a “Flash Mob”! A form of political activism since Jan 25th in Egypt. Like this one http://goo.gl/TXg3e8. It has nothing to do with propaganda. Before you two post such nonsense, please hold in for a second and think – it is worth the effort. Or just google for a while.

    • “Which “excellent catch”? This is just nonsense.”

If, as you are attempting to suggest, this is just a video of an innocent ‘Flash Mob’ why are you getting your knickers in a twist?

Of course it could be that now the rock has been turned over you and your ‘colleagues’ do not like being exposed to the light and truth.

    • That definitely isn’t a flash mob.
At least try and lie convincingly,(like those in the video.)

  3. I do not know what you think you have discovered – to my untrained and non-intelligent eye it looks like somebody is filming a re-enactment of Pro-Morsi protest – Now it could be there are trying to fool the international media that there are pro Morsi protests in Egypt when there are none. But surely that is not what you are saying? Or are you? Perhaps it might convince the gullible at cif watch.Prey tell us what narrative has been invented here so we can all share the joke. As I see it, it is an attempt to re-enact a protest for the purposes of filming it. It might even be media class that was deliberately sent to you so they can have a laugh at your spin.

  4. Another Palestinian narrative a child cannot inherit his or her parents refugee status but can and does inherit the crimes of his or her parents according to the Zionist law. Now this is a real attempt at making a narrative. Unfortunately based on the facts on the ground

But when I tried to visit Palestine in the summer of 2008, I was denied entry and banned for five years. This was because of a technicality — the Israeli airport security personnel apparently found in their system that my mother at one point overstayed her visa when she was in Palestine trying to raise me and my three siblings.

I was being punished for something I had no idea about as a child.

    • And, my S. African wife has friends from Cape Town and J’burg who can’t get visas to even visit the U.S. simply because U.S. Immigration officials evidently fear that many South Africans will, due to economic reasons, overstay their visa. Such people haven’t done anything wrong, but the U.S., as with all sovereign countries, has the right to allow or deny visitors entry into the country as they see fit. The result is not always fair but, then again, life is unfair sometimes.

      • Scoop – Adam Levick compares apatheid South Africa to Israel’s occupation of the next door territory of the State of Palestine.

        • Olly:

“Adam Levick compares apatheid South Africa to Israel’s occupation of the next door territory of the State of Palestine.”

          He did no such thing.
          Did you finish first grade?

          • Itsik, “Olly” and his ilk (and sock-puppets) take one or two words from someone else’s comment and then put a whole bunch more words around it that produce something completely new, and then attribute this new creation to the original commenter.

It works something like this (example for illustrative purposes only):

Original Commenter: “I think it’s disgusting that stone-throwers near Hebron killed Yonatan and Asher Palmer”
Olly (or Olly-ilk): “Original Commenter thinks that everyone in Hebron should be exterminated.”

            See how it works?

      • The US has the right to ban foreigners from entering its own territory. For instance, they banned Israeli MK Ben Ari from entering the US due to his links with terrorist , Kahanist groups.

Israel has the right to ban foreigners from entering its own territory. It does NOT have the right to ban foreigners from entering the territory of its neigbor, the State of Palestine – West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and Gaza.

Dear Adam, it’s high time you attend classes in geography, international law and, for good measure, journalism. It’s never to late to go to university.

        • I know it’s hard to understand since you come from Uranus, but there is no State of Palestine. Of course, there could have been. 13 years ago one was offered. Heck, a state was offered 65 years ago, but I digress…. Or do I? WHAT ARE YOU COMPLAINING ABOUT??? Oh yeah, that there are all of these Jews who have ruined your shitstained life.

Oh well, Olly. I say, kill yourself now, and end the suffering.

    • Rafi,

An Aussie friend I met in London was stopped for no reason in Heathrow, interogated in length and without a reason deported.

He had no criminal record simply looked dodgy and the police thought he acted agresivly.

He came back using his Greek passport (he has dual nationality) and went through with a smile.

  5. Adam totally different – this individual is not allowed to visit his own country to get married because of what his mother did when he was a child – Of course every country has a right to refuse a non-national rights of entry particularly based on fear that might overstay. Incidentally, what do you think of the Palestinians who thought the Jews might overstay their hospitality and therefore did not want the Jews to have free access to Palestine? Cannot have it both ways Adam.

    • Why do you need to visit a country to marry?
Get marry in your own state!
Unless you want to marry someone in Israel in order to overstay.
      That my friend is ilegal.

  6. Itsik what do you know about Israel? There is a small matter of those who call themselves Palestinians living under occupation wanting to marry their Palestinian sweethearts.

It might be illegal under Zionist Laws for Palestinians to live in Palestine. Unfortunately, the Palestinian do not recognize the validity of any law refusing them entry into their own country.for whatever purpose including overstaying in their own homes or the homes of their sweethearts.

Perhaps you do not recognize the Palestinians need to get married but they do. However, if you want to know more of the case here it is. However, to be fair to the Israelis, one has to recognize this cannot be read to imply a process of ethnic cleansing is going on.

In 2012, I finally attempted to try and enter the country again. Fortunately, I was allowed in.

It was during this visit when I met Marjan, who I fell in love with. She eventually became my fiancée.

Throughout the past two years, Marjan and I planned to have a beautiful wedding celebration with our family and friends in Palestine on 11 August this year. I planned on bringing her with me back to Chicago after the wedding.

Back in the US and working to save up for our wedding, I was excited to come to Palestine this summer to marry Marjan. My mother, youngest brother Wael and younger sister Yasmin were set to go to Palestine ahead of me to help us with wedding preparations.

Unfortunately, my mother was denied entry, even though it was her first time coming in seven years. During interrogation in Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport, Yasmin was put into a different room than my mother and Wael.

Yasmin was questioned about why she was visiting Israel, and she told them she was coming for my wedding. After a short interrogation, she was allowed in.

But my mother and Wael were not allowed in. When airport security officials found out that my youngest brother was born in Palestine and was eligible to get his hawiyye, they informed my mother they were not going to let them in.

    • Maybe it’s time for you to petition your leaders to call off the war. It seems to be hurting you personally.

    • Apologies Rafi, I understood that you went to Israel in order to get married.
I now understand you met someone there and fell in love with them, which is a different story.

You have my sympathy and I must highlight that like many Palestinian there are many Jews who struggle to meet their family in Arab countries and in Iran and they have to jump through hoops to reunite risking prison every time.

There is no doubt the conflict caused terrible situation (as conflicts often do) and must be resolved.

Allow me to pose this question to you; Do you agree for a Jewish national home in any part of historical Palestine?
If so, you are already very close to a solution and must stress on Hamas and the PA to revise their manifests as well as publicly state that.

What do I know about Israel?
I know it’s my country, I know my family lives there and I know The Jordanians didn’t respect their agreement to allow Jews to East Jerusalem praying area between 1949 – 67.

I hope you will see a Palestinian state where you can reside in side by side an Israeli one soon.

    • No need to answer my previous question.
May i ask where is Marjan from?

      Another thing is odd:
“In 2012, I finally attempted to try and enter the country again. Fortunately, I was allowed in.

It was during this visit when I met Marjan, who I fell in love with. She eventually became my fiancée.

Throughout the past two years, Marjan and I planned to have a beautiful wedding celebration with our family and friends in Palestine on 11 August this year.”

Even if your first visit was in January 1st 2012 you could not have planned a marriage for 2 years between that day and 11 August 2013.
      It’s less than 2 years.

On a personal note, your experience is very sad. I couldn’t tell the ins and outs.
But I can tell you this. Israel, with all its faults, is not the most racist state in the ME.

You have been there and you should know.

  7. Itsik you obviously never been in love I suspect racist find love difficult – I can sympathize with the couple – I have never been there out of fear that I would not be allowed in – or worse – I think you have wrong impression the story is not about me but about a young Palestinian.

    • So you weren’t talking about yourself?
Funny I didn’t see quotation marks or names.

Why do you think I was never been in love and how is it obvious? What is the relevance of this to this thread?

“I have never been there out of fear that I would not be allowed in – or worse …”

Worse like what? You are scared of the bogeyman! Or maybe you are scared to have an Israeli stamp on your passport so you could not return to your Muslim state!
      #
Now that is a fear i can understand.

  8. Itsik – Every time a skin head called me a Black Bastard – i always said to myself it could have been worst – it could have been the Black Shirt or even worst the HJ

You think to the victim of racism it matters that there are worst racists than his tormentors.

    • You think to the victim of racism it matters that there are worst racists than his tormentors.

Being the victim of racist abuses I can tell you it should.
      It does to me.
      It’s called perspective.
My father’s horror in WW2 is nothing compare to what I got.
Ilan Halimi’s racist murder is far worst than what Palestinian suffer under Israeli arrest.
Read the entire description please so you can see.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ilan_Halimi

    • Since when is Adam Levick pretend to be a journalist?
Which news outlet is he working for?

  9. Itsik you said “What do I know about Israel?
I know it’s my country, I know my family lives there and I know The Jordanians didn’t respect their agreement to allow Jews to East Jerusalem praying area between 1949 – 67” .

Well so you are a Palestinian, An agreement between devils are not worth the paper they are written on(oops the agreement was not written) I hope your family is not part of the 40,000 facing expulsions from Bedouin villages.

    • So you are a sock puppet. I thought your puppet master was quitting here for good.
      Get lost. Who’s paying you?

    • Rafi,

My mother is a Jewish Palestinian.
after the speration agreement between Jews and Arabs the Jewish side was called Israel and its citizens are called Israelis.

  10. Hang on.

The participants have banners about Morsi and the Egyptian army. Presumably it’s a protest against the army coup.

What on earth does this have to do with the Palestinians? “Pallywood” my arse!

This article is desperate – and a cheap slur against Arabs in general.

  11. Pretz
You are missing the point . No one is saying this is Palestinian footage . It is Egyptian but is symptomatic of the propaganda techniques used by the Palestinians in their attempts to vilify Israel . It’s a legitimate ,all be it a mendacious tactic adopted by the Palestinians and their supporters as part of their ‘ third way ‘ following previous failed attempts to destroy Israel by state warfare and two Intifadas .
It s nothing to be reticent or ashamed about . Such techniques were first employed to good effect by earlier totalitarian ideologies , communism and Nazism , both of which have had a profound influence on the Palestinian cause ( Visit Mufti of Jerusalem and his Nazi associations ) .

Sometimes the propaganda techniques run out of steam as in the case of the little Palestinian girl wheeled out time and again screaming her head off at Israeli soldiers hoping to get an angry response while all the time bring filmed by ISM and others . Simply risible but a good example of the desperate measures adopted by desperate and reprehensible attack dog Palestinian NGO s

    • You’re telling me that silent non-violent protests are “symptomatic of the propaganda techniques used by the Palestinians”? You do know about the non-violent protests against the occupation?
Is that the point I’m missing?

Oh – and spare us the Nazi comparisons. It’s pathetic.

  13. Itsik is this the same agreement by which 40,000 Bedouins will be losing their houses? You do know the agreement is a fake. The Palestinians never agreed to give their properties to anybody. I thought the Balfour declaration was between the Zionists and the British Empire. The British Empire had no right to make any agreement over Palestine. I think your parents were conned.

  14. Wow Harvey the IDF is on the ball today. However, I do not know what makes it a bogus marriage. To make it easier for you is it bogus because
    a. There are no Palestinians and therefore no marriage possible between Palestinians.
    b. The State of Israel does not recognize the marriages among Palestinians to help diminish the number of Palestinians and diffuse the demographic time bomb
c.You cannot rely on the Palestinians telling the truth –

Perhaps Harvey will enlighten us in the context of his extreme racist views. .

  15. Err no
The bogus part is that you attempted to pass it off as your own situation . That s the danger of copy pasting even from obscure links such as the execrable EI . Someone will always pick up on it !
So that makes you bogus as others have already said .
So sorry I cannot answer your multiple choice . Something to do with not engaging with Sock Puppets .

Otherwise he simply invents lies, like every ns.

    • The sad thing is that – as another poster noticed recently – this is not the work (that’s “work” in the broadest, most generous definition of the term) of just one individual.

  17. God, After all, Here is me trying to pass the story as my personal story in my own comments at this website on the 9th Aug

“Itsik you obviously never been in love I suspect racist find love difficult – I can sympathize with the couple – I have never been there out of fear that I would not be allowed in – or worse – I think you have wrong impression the story is not about me but about a young Palestinian.”

Never mind do not allow the truth to hoodwink the Zionist narrative based on lies

    • Rafi:

“Never mind do not allow the truth to hoodwink the Zionist narrative based on lies.”

Your original statement did not have any quotation marks, names or explanation that it was not you that is being spoken of.
      Hence my intial mistake.
You didn’t bother to explain where the story was taken from so one could easily be judgemental about your motives or the storie’s authenticity.

  18. Harvey I am glad you brought up the issue of Palestinian refugees across the Levant. This is why the Right of Return of Palestinian refugees is such a critical issue and needs to be granted for the sake of peace in the region. Israel, as you know, is the sticking point. It refuses to recognize the existence of the Palestinian refugees.

  19. There are at best estimate a few tens of thousands of refugees left from 1948 .
The majority of them caused by a war which Israel never asked for and which was meant to wipe out the nascent state . Unfortunately for the Palestinians and the Arab League they lost the war .
There is nothing to say that Israel has to return to the original status quo .
It was a Palestinian call . It’s called cause and effect . You reap what you sew .
As for second and third generation refugees . Well that would be a first . Refugees that is . There have been population movements through war , famine and the like since time immemorial . Later generations assimilate and integrate and are no longer refugees – except of course as far as the Palestinians are concerned for they have both rejected and been rejected by their host Arab states since 1948 . They have been allowed to fester in camps throughout the Middle East and further afield to be used as pawns and to deflect criticism from Arab despotic rulers .
You need to stop feeling sorry for yourselves and quit playing the eternal martyr . Do a deal with Israel and build a state in the same fashion as the Jews built their homeland . Otherwise you know the rest and so does the Arab world

  20. I do not mind quitting playing the victim. Besides I do not see myself as a victim. I see the injustice the Palestinians have suffered since the arrival of the Zionists in Palestine. I am assuming Palestinians would soon be getting Justice.

You think Palestinians deserve everything they get because they lost the war. Would you attribute the Holocaust to the Jews losing the elections in Germany. I would not. I blame the fascists for the Holocaust and the Zionists for the Nakba. Of course the Jews were the victims of the Holocaust and Palestinians the victims of the Nakba.

    • You are a victim of your own anger and hatred and obnoxious level of utter stupidity.

The Palestinians, whom you fight for, WERE OFFERED A STATE IN 2000. That offer is still on the table.

You don’t care about the Palestinians. You care about hating Jews.

That is why you’re a victim. That is why you are a perpetual loser. That is why you will never get what you really want.

Kill yourself. Eat that bullet. End the misery.

      You are a joke.

    • Rafi:
“attribute the Holocaust to the Jews losing the elections in Germany…”
Never realised the Jews were running for office in 1933.

      • Perhaps Rafi Mirza believes the Jews were pulling the strings behind every party except the Nazis? That would be the least preposterous of potential interpretations.

  21. From rana mirza to Rafi Mirza

  22. Harvey remind me who came back after 2000 years?
I blame the Palestinians they should have accepted the thief robbing them of half their properties. They resisted and now the thief has taken the lot live with it. Which law of the Jungle is this?

How many generations was that after even if the claim is credible or are you just being argumentative.

    • Rafi:

“Harvey remind me who came back after 2000 years?”

Funny. Jews were the only ones that had a constant presence in Jodea since the time of Moses.

  23. Rafi Mirza
There has been a continuous Jewish presence since the destruction of the Temple 2000 years ago . The simple truth is that people like you and the Palestinians are doing everything in their power to re write history airbrushing the Jewish connection in the process .

  24. Harvey this continuous Jewish presence does not cut ice with me. The Muslims and Christians all have a continuous presence from the start of humanity. After all said and done, according to Muslim faith, Abraham, Moses and Jesus are all accepted as Prophets in the Muslim faith.

The real question is a Jewish person in New York, who has no real memory of any connection to the Holy Land can claim a continuous presence in the same land whereas, his next door Palestinian neighbor who has distinct memory of his parents living in the Holy Land is denied that connection. Who is re-writing history here ?

    • The Muslims and Christians all have a continuous presence from the start of humanity
      Hahahahahahaha!

You couldn’t make this stuff up…

    • Who is re-writing history here ?

Indisputably anyone who claims that “The Muslims and Christians all have a continuous presence from the start of humanity”.

        • I’m #5 in Outsidehumanity Avenue.
Care yo join me for a drink in #27 later on?
It’s a bar called “end of the line”.

            • I would have asked Rafi to tag along for the laugh (got to have a joker) but I don’t think the guys in the ISI would appreciate him having drinks.
Wouldn’t want to bring harm to him do we?

    • Rafi:

” The Muslims and Christians all have a continuous presence from the start of humanity.”

Boy oh boy, you are stupid.
Population change is a constant factor.
Where do you think the Egyptians went?
Do you think modern day Egyptians look an inch like the rulers of the lower nile 3000 years ago?
So why don’t they look alike?
      mmmm.

  25. cba I understand it is a difficult concept for those outside humanity to understand. I think you missed the point we are all part of one continuum. Racists like you think otherwise. That is fine racists, like cba, can be racists but we must not allow them to enforce their racist views on others.

    • So there were Christians before Christianity existed, and Muslims before Islam existed.

      Thanks for setting me straight.

I’m sure there’s some cosmic significance to the fact that this stunning paradox was posted on Schrodinger’s 126th birthday. Maybe Rafi/Rana is a cat lover…

  26. You do lack education do you not? I can understand history is not your strong subject. But even logic fails you – I am not going to bother explaining to you the intricacies of faith. Have you heard of Adam and his common significance to all three monotheistic faiths? Perhaps not you lead a life sheltered by Zionists lies.

    • We had another troll here, didn’t we, who (like Rafi/Rana) was unable to use the Reply button?

Amazing how they think changing their nick will hide their MO.

    • “Have you heard of Adam and his common significance to all three monotheistic faiths?”

Yes I have heard of Adam.
I know he is Managing Editor of CiF Watch but how does that make him significant to ‘ all three monotheistic faiths’ ?

  27. Gerald my grandson is named Abraham that does not make him the Prophet or the founder of monotheism – see the difference.

    • Rafi you must be a (bad) joke. You wrote in one of your previous post:
“In 2012, I finally attempted to try and enter the country again. Fortunately, I was allowed in. It was during this visit when I met Marjan, who I fell in love with. She eventually became my fiancée. Throughout the past two years, Marjan and I planned to have a beautiful wedding celebration with our family and friends in Palestine on 11 August this year”
In 2012 you got acquainted with your fiancée, married one day ago and now you have grandson called Abraham. What can I say… it was very quick. This is a more significant miracle than the immaculate conception…
Are you employed as a clown? Or you really are this turbo version of a moron?

      • Peter, when challenged (I believe–but wouldn’t swear to it–by Harvey), he “clarified” that he was quoting someone else’s story (said story found by Harvey (or whoever) on that oh-so-reliable and unbiased website, Electronic Intifada.

  28. Why do you not keep to the subject refer to the previous blogs and you fill find the truth. May be it is too much to expect from those living on Zionist lies for 2000 years especially the ones who can prove their grandfather lived in the house they occupy now 2000 years ago.

  29. Rafi:

“it is too much to expect from those living on Zionist lies for 2000 years …”

Zionism was not around 2000 years ago.
It was developed about 110 years ago.

  30. so why do Zionists claim a 2000 year connection? I am baffled. Perhaps we are reaching the end Zionists are going to deny the connection and return to Europe? May be not.

  32. Still waiting for CiFWatch – or anyone else – to explain how a silent protest in Egypt “might just upturn the way people think about” the I/P conflict …
