Facts about Yasser Arafat’s death and life the Guardian won’t report

The Guardian devoted five separate articles (here, here, here, here and here) on Nov. 6 to a recently released report by Swiss scientists on their autopsy of Yasser Arafat’s remains which was originally obtained by Al-Jazeera.

Though, in fairness, the Guardian’s reporting on the Swiss findings (which reportedly showed unexpectedly high levels of radioactive polonium-210) was relatively restrained – mostly noting that the substance found on Arafat only indicate that he could have been poisoned, the stories do significantly downplay or ignore evidence indicating that poison likely was not the cause of death.

Here are a few facts:

  • After Arafat’s death, in November of 2004, the Palestinian Authority refused to release medical records which would have shed light into the cause of death.
  • Even more curious (especially in the context of the immediate accusations of murder directed towards Israel), neither the Palestinian Authority, nor Arafat’s widow Suha, allowed an autopsy to be performed on his body.
  • report in 2005 by The New York Times (based on an examination of Arafat’s medical records which the paper had obtained) concluded that he died of “a stroke that resulted from a bleeding disorder caused by an unknown infection,” and that Arafat did not suffer the extensive kidney and liver damage they would expect if he was exposed to a lethal toxic substance – findings, they noted, which “argued strongly against poisoning”.
  • Arafat’s remains have been examined by two additional forensic teams other than the Swiss team (French and Russian), but those results have not yet been made public.
  • The original ‘exclusive’ Al Jazeera report on the Swiss findings noted that, in the event Arafat was poisoned, his Palestinian rivals at the time of his death would have to be considered main suspects – a possibility not even mentioned in the more than 3200 words the Guardian devoted to the story.
  • Al Jazeera reported that though the evidence suggests poisoning, “no evidence has emerged that implicates [Israel]“, while the Guardian framed the findings as merely ‘not definitively proving that Israel murdered the Palestinian leader’.

Whilst we may never know with certainty the exact cause of Arafat’s death, we do know quite a bit about the lives he extinguished during his long reign of terror, a resume which includes launching and directing a four-year campaign of violence directed at innocent civilians known as the Second Intifada, and his leadership role in dozens of deadly attacks against Israelis which date back to the 1960′s.

As we Tweeted last year after questions emerged about the possible poisoning of Arafat, we humbly wish those concerned with whether there was foul play in his death would show as much concern for the surviving families and loved ones of those he murdered.

  1. The main thing is Arafat’s dead, and whoever topped him deserves our gratitude for saving countless innocent civilians from death or maiming at the hands of his terrorist gang.

  2. In most murder mysterious, a close family member is the prime suspect.

We know his wife hated him.

    Suha diddit!!

    • My guess is Suha, Hamas or both.
Just remember a year and 2 months after his death Hamas took over Gaza.

  3. Don’t forget the many Lebanese Christians and Shiites and Jordanians killed, murdered and raped by the Palestinian militants operating under Arafat’s leadership.

You also forgot another fact that at least 2 Israeli high officials said publicaly that Israel official orders were not to target Arafat under any circumstances.

“Raanan Gissin, who was an Israeli government spokesman when Arafat died, reiterated Wednesday that Israel had no role in his death.

“It was a government decision not to touch Arafat at all,” he said, adding that “if anyone poisoned him, it could have been someone from his close circle.”

“However, Yigal Palmor of Israel’s foreign ministry called the revelations ‘more soap opera than science’, adding: ‘Israel doesn’t feel concerned in the least.’

    And another thing or 2:

“Repeated attempts to reach the main author, Patrice Mangin, or the Lausanne-based institute’s spokesman, Darcy Christen, were unsuccessful Wednesday night.”

mmm…. Maybe he was also “poisoned”…

“Suha Arafat told Al-Jazeera she was stunned and saddened by the findings.”

I bet she was. NOT! She was happy to get the money!

“It’s a shocking, shocking crime to get rid of a great leader,” she said.

So I guess she wasn’t shocked after all.

“I can’t accuse anyone, but how many countries have an atomic reactor that can produce polonium?” she said.

mmm… Maybe a country that starts with the letter “I”? Iran for example. Or is she pointing the finger at North Korea, Pakistan or India?
Must be the Yankees after all.
Or maybe, the French? After all, she’s living in France.

    • I was going to mention the Lebanese Christians, but you beat me to it. There were also Americans including at least one American official who was murdered on Arafat’s orders, I believe. I’m sure Max Blumenthal thinks he was the cat’s pajamas.

An Israeli expert on radiation quoted by Ynet on Thursday said the Swiss report was “completely fabricated.” Dr. Ehud Ne’eman said there would be no traces of Polonium 210 if the poison was injected before 2004.

Last November, a leading French doctor who teaches at the Paris hospital where Arafat died told The Times of Israel, based on Arafat’s medical report, that there was “absolutely no way” the Palestinian leader was poisoned. Dr. Roland Masse, a member of the prestigious Académie de Médecine who teaches radiopathology at Percy Military Training Hospital in the Paris suburb of Clamart, where Arafat was hospitalized two weeks before his death, said the symptoms of polonium poisoning would have been “impossible to miss,” noted that Percy had tested Arafat for radiation poisoning, and revealed that the hospital specializes in the related field of radiation detection. “A lethal level of polonium simply cannot go unnoticed,” Masse said.

CAMERA ALERT: “Terrorists say orders come from Arafat” — USA Today

In a March 14, 2002 USA Today article (“Terrorist says orders come from Arafat”), Palestinian terrorists in the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, as well as one of Arafat’s foreign media spokesmen, have confirmed that the terrorists are under the command of Arafat, and that most of them receive salaries from the Palestinian Authority. Please remind the media and the public of this connection.

Below are quotes that were included in the article confirming the essential link between Arafat and the terrorist group Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigade that is part of his Fatah movement.

Maslama Thabet, leader of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades in Tulkarm, who was responsible for kidnapping and executing two Israeli restaurateurs who had stopped in Tulkarm for lunch “Our group is an integral part of Fatah.”

(Fatah, headed by Arafat, is the largest group in the Palestinian Authority, the government of the autonomous Palestinian territories.)
Maslama Thabet: “The truth is, we are Fatah itself, but we don’t operate under the name of Fatah. We are the armed wing of the organization. We receive our instructions from Fatah. Our commander is Yasser Arafat himself.”

Nabil Abu Rudeineh, Arafat’s chief spokesman: “The president has nothing to do with these things, he has nothing to say about this issue.”
Mohammed Odwan, Arafat’s foreign media spokesman: “[The brigade] is loyal to President Arafat. They are working for the interests of the Palestinian people. They are fighting because they think these kind of operations —and I agree— will push forward their independence and their dream of freedom.”

Hussein A-Sheikh, a Fatah political leader in the West Bank (who appeared insulted when asked whether the brigade was under Arafat’s control): “Of course, there is control. What do you think? That we are just a bunch of gangs?”

The article also describes Palestinian Authority officials as verifying that most members of the brigade receive salaries from Arafat’s Palestinian Authority and points out how the Palestinian leadership has openly allied itself with a terrorist group.

Confirmed: Arafat Paid Father of Dolphinarium Terrorist
    Israel National News
    Sep 13, ’04

Recently released documents captured during Operation Defensive Shield confirm that the family of the suicide bomber who attacked the beach front Dolphinarium dance club in Tel Aviv was awarded $2000 by Yassir Arafat. Arafat also sent the terrorist’s father a letter in which he praised his son’s murderous act.

The attack on the Dolphinarium was one of the most brutal massacres of the entire Oslo War, killing 21 people, mostly teens, on a Friday night in August 2001. Over 120 persons were injured in the powerful bomb blast. Hassan Khutari, a Hamas terrorist, carried out the attack.

During Operation Defensive Shield, two documents from the “Institute for Caring for Victims’ Families” – a division of the “Palestinian Welfare Ministry” – were discovered in Arafat’s ‘Mukata’ headquarters in Ramallah. The captured data documented the transfer of the $2000 award to the terrorist’s father, who was living in Jordan at the time. The transfer took place despite the fact that the terrorist was a member of Hamas, and that the both Arafat and the suicide bomber’s father publicly denounced the attack.

Arutz-7 correspondent Haggai Huberman adds that the transfer of funds to Jordan was done through a branch of the Arab Bank, in El-Bireh, near Ramallah. The bank is known to be the preferred channel of the P.A. and other terror groups for funneling money to the families of imprisoned terrorists, terrorist operatives themselves and the families of dead terrorists.

Days after the money was transferred to Jordan, a German television station reported that Arafat, via the P.A. “ambassador” to Jordan, sent the terrorist’s father a letter “praising” the “act” of his son, describing him as “an extraordinary model of strength, manliness and willingness for self-sacrifice.”

Arafat’s office had denied the report, saying the letter was a forgery, but the release of the documents discovered during Defensive Shield now confirm the German report.

During the 12 year Civil War in Lebanon, caused by Yassir Arafat’s assuming power through terror, his terrorists committed mass murder. Whole villages of Christians like Damour were massacred, chopped into pieces with machetes. Out of the 30,000 Christians, 10,000 were slaughtered by Arafat’s PLO. The town was then occupied and kept as Arafat’s stronghold. David Shipler of the New York Times wrote the story of Damour June 21, 1982. There were individual murders.! One horrific, but typical, example is when the Muktar (leader) of a village refused to be cooperative with Arafat and his terrorists. The Muktar’s teenage daughter was abducted and raped. Her breasts were cut off and she was delivered to the doorstep of her father in a sack.

  8. Whoever did it, Allah must’ve hated Arafat ‘cos He allowed it to happen. Anyway, in the absence of Poirot pointing the finger at Allah, I’d say Arafat looked like a few of the AIDS victims I’ve seen in photographs. I’m not suggesting, of course, ………:)

  9. Only the Palestinians can make allegations, wait 2 years where no new evidence has been acquired, and then persuade the media to embellish some on their theories which, not so coincidentally, LACK ALL LOGIC.

And, yes, I said Persuade the Media, because America’s own PBS ran a 3-minute breakdown through the mouth of Judy Woodruff last night. This was part of the John Kerry visit to re-start those peace talks, see.

The Palestinian leadership is a huge joke. And they can still have peace. Fucking amazing.

  10. ‘not definitively proving that Israel murdered the Palestinian leader’ –
The gutter guardian takes a break from sending intel to al quaeda to smear Israel.

  11. Right now the G. has an absolutely huge banner ad for Al Jazeera at the top of its homepage:
    Poisoned (Po 84).
    Killing Arafat
Al Jazeera reveals the secret of his death.
