More on Harriet Sherwood’s love letter to the “miraculous” people of Gaza

We posted recently about a 3200 word love letter to the people of Gaza by departing Guardian Jerusalem correspondent Harriet Sherwood – a farewell report which “paid tribute to the resilience, creativity and humour of its people… despite their adverse circumstances and repeated setbacks”.

The moral pass given to the extremist antisemitic movement ruling Gaza by Sherwood – reflecting the paper’s proclivity to frame even most malevolent Palestinian political actors in a sympathetic light – was evident in the following passage:

I arrived eager to learn more about what is frequently called the world’s most intractable conflict, and to try to understand the powerful feelings of historical injustice on both sides. I am leaving angry about an occupation that has lasted close to half a century, weary of Israel’s grinding oppression of the Palestinian people, cynical about the political leadership on both sides and in the international community, and pessimistic that a fair resolution will be reached.

Well, it turns out that the print edition of The Observer (sister publication of the Guardian) published additional content related to Sherwood’s apologia, one which included a simply risible headline:

miracle

Observer, Jan. 25, page 16

First, the misinformation in these “facts” about the “miracle” of Gaza is significant.

  • Electricity and Fuel: Even Palestinians are blaming Hamas for the fuel shortage – and related power outages – which was largely caused by the Islamist group’s decision not to pay for fuel from the open market, but instead rely on taxes gained from the illegal transfer of cheaper fuel through tunnels.  These elaborate and extremely expensive underground structures have been largely closed down (by both Israel and Egypt) due to Hamas’s decision to utilize these ‘humanitarian’ tunnels for weapons smuggling and other terrorist uses
  • Construction: Again, Sherwood fails to reveal that the export of most construction material to Gaza was (temporarily) suspended only after the IDF uncovered the terrorist tunnels Hamas was using to transfer deadly weapons, and plan terrorist attacks on Israeli civilians. Prior to these restrictions, construction materials for both UN projects and private contractors were being imported into the territory.
  • Imports: Again, Hamas was using the tunnels to not only import “cheaper” consumer goods, but to import deadly weapons and plan terror attacks. (Additionally, every month, Israel oversees the transfer of roughly thousands of trucks of goods into Gaza via the Kerem Shalom crossing – supplies which include food, humanitarian products, medical supplies and electrical products.)
  • Exports: Sherwood again misleads, as she fails to note that Gaza exports over 50 truckloads of goods each month to mostly European markets – goods which includes fruit, spices and flowers.
  • Exit: Sherwood fails to note that, in addition to the pedestrian crossings into Egypt, between 4,000 and 5,000 Gazans are given permits each month to enter into Israel. A large percentage of these Palestinians are allowed into Israel to get medical treatment at Israeli hospitals.
  • Rockets: Remarkably, the number cited by Sherwood is actually HIGHER than what was reported by the Israeli Security Agency. According to figures released by the ISA, there were 74 rockets and mortars fired into Israel from Gaza in 2013.

Additionally, Sherwood failed to note that Gazans receive a large percentage of the roughly $2.4 billion that the Palestinians (in both Gaza and the W. Bank) receive annually in international aid, making Palestinians the third largest recipient of aid in the world.

Beyond the misleading nature of Sherwood’s specific claims, the decision (presumably by Guardian editors) to use the word “miraculous” to describe Gaza’s survival is a great illustration of the fetishization of Palestinians continually on display in their reports and commentaries, most which lack the critical scrutiny that Israelis are typically subjected to.  A more sober assessment of Gaza since Israel’s withdrawal in 2005 would surely evoke Abba Ebban’s dismay over Palestinians’ tendency to “never miss an opportunity to miss an opportunity”.

When the last Israeli soldiers left Gaza, Palestinian Arabs were free of ‘occupation’ for the first time in their history, yet didn’t respond by working towards the development of democratic norms and the promotion of economic growth and social progress.  Instead, they elected a reactionary, extremist and ideologically antisemitic religious movement whose primary focus was inculcating Palestinians with hatred towards Jews, and ridding the region of the Zionist entity.

Gazans’ economic woes – exaggerated, though they are – can be directly attributed to their destructive decision during the 2006 legislative elections, and they will only know true freedom and real economic prosperity when they figure out how to free themselves from the yoke of Islamist fanatics who speak in their name.

  1. “when they figure out how to free themselves from the yoke of Islamist fanatics who speak in their name. ”

Now why do that when it leads to this:

“…Gazans receive a large percentage of the roughly $2.4 billion that the Palestinians (in both Gaza and the W. Bank) receive annually in international aid, making Palestinians the third largest recipient of aid in the world.”

  2. ” the paper’s proclivity to frame even most malevolent Palestinian political actors in a sympathetic light”

Ridiculous. The “most malevolent Political actors” ..are these not monsters in charge of giant armies rather than a few battered and bruised small time civic leaders? Good grief talk about no sense of proportion..

As for the word “miraculous ” that is sneered at in the title. This is mean spirited..but also ironic..other folk have been called ” miraculous ” despite also being attacked ..on many sides.. as extremists.

    • Webby:

“Ridiculous. The “most malevolent Political actors” ..are these not monsters in charge of giant armies rather than a few battered and bruised small time civic leaders?”

A few bruised and battered small time civic leaders? Oh!
You mean those hanging infront of your family’s hotel in Tehran?
Whatever gave you the reason there were only few of them?

  3. It takes a degree of politically correct blindness that is quite incomprehensible to have spent 3 years in Israel, which is really an authentic miracle country, rising in 65 years from 3rd world to 1st world and leadership in so many fields of human endeavor, to refer to Gaza, one of the most appallingly mismanaged, unproductive, violent, hopeless and future-less parts of the planet, as a “miracle”.

None so blind as those who will not see.

    • ” Israel, which is really an authentic miracle country, rising in 65 years from 3rd world to 1st world ”

What a load of hooey . Many places have seen sensational growth . Besides, like in many countries… in Israel there is good and bad ..turning the desert green and the UNHQ white.

The miracle is that they have managed to keep it in the holster for so long.

      • B.,
Quite an emotional reaction! But I think that any sober analysis would show AKUS’ description to be correct, and Sherwood’s to be hooey.
“Besides, like in many countries… in Israel there is good and bad”
No, not many countries, but rather all countries. But the point is that the bad in “many countries” aren’t hyped nearly as much and that there is particular malevolence shown toward Israel that is way out of proportion to any misdeeds, real, exaggerated or imagined. Your own often repeated bizarre reference to what “95% of the world wants” is illustrative.

      • “What a load of hooey”. Is that an example of the wonderful ‘humour’ we’d miss?

Don’t you think it’s a miracle that a tiny country surrounded by enemies who would like it wiped out and who tried to stop it even coming into being, which has coped with mass immigration, wars, constant terror attacks, unparalelled diplomatic and media scorn … and not only survived, but flourished, and not as a fundamentalist military dictatorship (which you might have expected of a country which has basically been at war for its entire existence) bit as a secular, vibrant democracy! Now that is miraculous.

        • ” a tiny country surrounded by enemies who would like it wiped out ”

I am sure that if the 48 UN decision had been fairer and reflective of the average population proportions over the previous 50 years rather than after a war which drove the proportion of Jews higher.. then an accommodation might have been reached. But it was about world politics with the USSR trying to poke the UK in the eye.

As for survival… with the Yanks pumping in 3 b a year …every year ? Hardly a miracle.Pretty explainable really.

          • As for survival… with the Yanks pumping in 3 b a year …every year ? Hardly a miracle.Pretty explainable really.
berchmans you should stay at your only expertise – cracking jokes on the children victims of the Holocaust. Finances and history is obviously not among your four diplomas from the proper British universities…
FYI The Palestinian Authority gets about two times more aid (per capita) from the USA, EU, UN and somehow the only miracle they were able to implement is having you as one of their “supporters”. Pretty sad and small achievement…

            • ” – cracking jokes on the children victims of the Holocaust.”

Have you got a link for this ? I note you never ever quote what was said.

              ” Your 4 diplomas ”

You remember that I have 4 qualifications but you forget to include a link about child joking fantasy?

              • “Have you got a link for this ?”
Berchmans I posted a link above which you grudgingly confirmed proves you are a liar. I haven’t noticed your apology to ‘Nobbly Stick’ yet.

                • ” posted a link above which you grudgingly confirmed proves you are a liar.”

I could have been lying about confirming!

                • “I could have been lying about confirming!”

Berchmans as you are a self-confessed liar it comes as no surprise that you lie.
However you have changed my opinion of you in one respect. Your inability to apologise when you are wrong shows that you are spineless. Therefore it is wrong to refer to you as a weasel, they have spines and a lot more character and credibility than you will ever have.

              • Any intelligible answer regarding your bullshit about the reason of Israel’s success and its explanation with the US aid?
                No?
Don’t worry berchmans I didn’t expect any from you – the intellectual giant of the Scottish national(ist) socialist movement.

                • “national(ist) socialist movement.”

Yes in the past the National socialists were busy destroying Europe, setting her back decades ,killing millions. Nowadays they send posts to sites that some dont like.

                • Webby:

“..National socialists were busy destroying Europe, setting her back decades…”

Isn’t that what you want to do to Britain?

          • Some interesting financial data only for your kind of intellectually and mathematically challenged individuals berchmans:
            – the total Israeli budget for 2013 was 110 billion USD.
            – The US military aid – the 3b USD is less than 2.8% of this sum
Now some reasons that the Palestinians wasn’t and aren’t able to perform anything miraculous after getting much more than this:
            – their leaders steal a big chunk of this aid
            – instead of building their own infrastructure and industry they are using the remaining sum for financing terror
            – instead of building a viable and modern education network they are busy with religious and ideological brainwashing
            – instead of allowing the millions of Palestinians living in refugee camps in the neighboring countries to return and exploiting the huge human resources and intellectual potential they keep them away in order to use them as pawns in the utterly hopeless “right of return” farce

            and these are only examples…

          • 2.4 billion a year for the Palestinians, 3rd highest amount of aid in the world, and just look at all the wonders they’ve created!
“I am sure that if the 48 UN decision had been fairer and reflective of the average population proportions” blah, blah, blah & blah..
Berchmans, the Arabs were offered much more in previous partition plans and rejected them all. And that’s what they were, partition plans, not UN decisions. This comment of yours taken together with your past statements, e.g., Jews being “overrepresented” in America, gives us a quite unflattering portrait of you. Aren’t Palestinians overrepresented in international forums, such as the UN? In news reportage generally? Isn’t their narrative overrepresented at the Guardian? Isn’t their most egregious b.s. whitewashed and painted over?
Israel is a success due to the creativity and inventiveness of her people against all odds. Wouldn’t you agree?

            • ” Israel is a success due to the creativity and inventiveness of her people against all odds ”

Firstly ” against all odds ” ?? Why such hyperbolism ?? 300 Greeks against the Persian Empire…that was “against all odds ” Israel has the best equipped military force in the ME by some considerable distance with the help and support she gets. …secondly keeping a million people in rubbled desperation..this is creative and inventive ?

I have often compared Scotland 1800 to present day Israel. We too punched way above our weight in Science, literature, philosophy ,medicine etc etc yet our brutality meant we were sought out as slave overseers in ” the Colonies ” It happened to Burns.

If the man who wrote the most sung song ( apart from Happy Birthday and ” Silver Machine ) in the world anyone can consider abusing power anyone can.

              • ” Israel has the best equipped military force in the ME by some considerable distance with the help and support she gets. …
I know berchmans that you are too stupid to contemplate the possibility that having a strong army is part of a country’s success. Regarding the support – so you think that its enemies have no support at all from Iran, Russia etc. Good to know.
secondly keeping a million people in rubbled desperation..this is creative and inventive ?
Thank you for demonstrating again your well established anti-semitic credentials with this laughably idiotic smear. Please keep it up…

                • ” your well established anti-semitic credentials ”

When I was a kid a well established anti semite was a guy who could prove he hated Jews and claimed they were a bad influence on the world. Now it is someone who notices that a first world nation has attacked a city using munitions of a power differential of several hundreds to one against the perceived threat.

What do you call someone who steals your parking place ?

                • “When I was a kid…”
                  Berchmans who cares?

It has been clearly shown that you are a liar.
In your fantasy world you are a humourist, but in the real world you are as funny as a typical golf club bore.
In your fantasy world you claim lots of things but in the real world you are just a liar, a Racist who was even thrown off ‘Comment is Free’ for being an annoying idiot.

Lets face it, in reality you are just a sad, pathetic, boring little man with an over inflated sense of his non-existent personality.

Okay, you just claim Jews are a bad influence on “a certain” part of the world (i.e the ME).
I mean with statements like the one below describing the Jewish state’s actions (or non actions) no wonder people believe you dislike Jews that do not fall into the “master slave” old mentality.

“keeping a million people in rubbled desperation..this is creative and inventive ?”

As my kibbutznik father used to say, you can get a cow to the water but you can’t make it drink.

Excellent berchmans. Rockets on Israel – a perceived threat.
                  Thank you.

“Israel has the best equipped military force in the ME by some considerable distance with the help and support she gets”

I think you really ought to revise the battle for Jerusalem in 48 and the entire war of independence episode.
You ought to be able to answer who equiped the Jordanian legion, the Syrian forces and the Egyptians and who equipped the Jewish forces.
You should also be able to tell what was the air force ratio at the time.
You should also be able to testify who was given nearly all of the high ground British armed bunkers (police HQ’s) and why did the British offered Golda Meir a safe place in the UK.

As for 73, Israel had an embargo which Egypt didn’t have.
Some Soviet pilots were flying with the Egyptian air force.

You are simply full of it and seriously need to visit the area before speaking.
I should suspect that the Israeli might left the Beufort castle in such a way because they are so strong and simply flatten villages when ever they fill like it right?

I should also suspect that no one was firing from a near proximity to the UN HQ at the IDF gunner position in Qana 1996 right? The IDF just fancied blasting the Fijians troops right?

                • You are simply full of it and seriously need to visit the area before speaking.
No way that he visit Israel. His name is on a watch list already. According to Israeli law the entry for noxious organisms must be denied.

          • $3 billion per year in aid is certainly a nice round sum even if $2 billion finds its way back to the US in payment for weapons, logistic support and other goods, all of which benefit the US economy. So the advantages of the arrangement are mutual.

Israel’s budget for 2013 was fixed last summer at $110 billion so the sum derived from US aid can hardly be described as critical for Israel’s survival. Contrast this fiscal information with the Palestinian Authority budget for 2013 at $3.8 billion, the bulk of which goes on salaries for the PA “defence forces” and emoluments to released terrorists, leaving little or nothing to meet payments for electricity, fuel and the like. A real Peace deal would bring foreign investment, certainly better than the current system of hand-outs with zero accountability.

“I am sure that if the 48 UN decision had been fairer…”

            And there we have it.
You never were a supporter of Zionism.
You never seen the need or justification of a Jewish national home did you?
            lies and more lies.
Ben Gurion’s govt settles for far less than what was at offer earlier in the century knowing full well their need for more land precisely for the reasons you me ntion, yet they agreed.
Your understanding of history suites your point of view.
And you call me a weasel

            • “You never were a supporter of Zionism”

You can both be a supporter of Zionism and someone who can add and subtract. The proportion of Jewish people by the end of the war had grown significantly …in fact in the lifetime of some Arabs from somes hundred thousand to …what… millions? They will feel as they are chilldren of a lesser God.

” And you call me a weasel ”

What ? When ? That is animalism and I would be failing in my duty as self appointed discriminatory expert here to use such language.

Or are you meaning “you” in general ..like “you” anti semites or ” you ” Israel haters ?

    • AKUS,

There are some good example that come from Gaza.
One of the examples can be Dr Abuelayesh.
      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Izzeldin_Abuelaish

Tragic as his story may be it is a symbol of hope in the dark neighbourhood called the middle east.

The reality Gaza is just as mismanaged as the Sinai is.
      Corruption and hardly any welfare.

  4. The miracle is about to end and so is the seige of Gaza and the occupation of Palestinian. As Livni said the dam is about to break – Hold tight.

  5. ‘Instead, they elected a reactionary, extremist and ideologically antisemitic religious movement whose primary focus was inculcating Palestinians with hatred towards Jews, and ridding the region of the Zionist entity’.

It’s worth pointing out here that if you’re a Palestinian – and you’ve also got the armed gangs and electoral intimidation/fixing thing going on – your choice for your vote is between a bunch of proven thieves who’ve robbed you blind (Fatah) and a bunch of brownshirt theocrats with AKs.

I often wonder how many of the ‘collaborators’ executed in both Gaza and the West Bank are just locals who spoke out of turn against the gangsters ruining their lives.

    • “I often wonder how many of the ‘collaborators’ executed in both Gaza and the West Bank are just locals who spoke out of turn against the gangsters ruining their lives.”

      Nearly all.

But people like Berchman wouldn’t let that disturb them.
They go for the easy target, Israel, which they know will not risk them or their familiy’s shopping spree for Persian carpets, and “correct” history books as well as “Holocaust catoon memorabilias” in Iran.

      • ” ‘collaborators’ executed in both Gaza ,,But people like Berchman wouldn’t let that disturb them. ”

Why would it? The plan worked perfectly. Treat people in a discriminatory way and they start to hate you ..me..themselves..this is what history has taught us. Did you think a solid peaceful democracy would emerge ?

” They go for the easy target, Israel,”

True genius comedy ..Israel an easy target ..per person surely amongst the most powerful citizens on earth..with legions of folk apparently with little else to do but shout “anti semite” at you for querying violence …with its strong connections to wallets and the resources of America . Further her romantic appeal through Hollywood etc etc . No she is not the bully on the beach but get a sense of
        proportion.

        • Thank you for proving again your racism (and your total cluelessness about history) again berchmans.
Treat people in a discriminatory way and they start to hate you ..me..themselves..this is what history has taught us.
          South-Africa
          Israel

History what taught you at your proper British universities.
Why are you expect much less from Arabs than from Blacks, Jews and Europeans?
Because you are a racist shit.

        • Webby,
Don’t let facts get in your way.
If I listen to you the only way is be subdued to the Muslim fanatics because nothing else will appease them.

Maybe you should learn a bit about the way things were prior to 48 and how little things have changed.
It’s so much easier to blame Israel isn’t it.

          • ” Maybe you should learn a bit about the way things were prior to 48 ”

Yes the way extremist pro Israelis have painted the history of the Muslim-Jewish relationship in the same colours as the Jewish Christian catastrophe…now thats a flippin miracle.

But surely you dont trust a liar.

                ‘howling Nazi’ bleeding obvious.”

Yes Nazis used to be people who despoiled Europe and killed millions. Now you mention that Jews are often overrepresented in media, finance and politics in the States ( as well as medicine and science ) and it is as if you were actually driving the Panzers.Funny old world.

You should be proud that the intelligence and drive of your people means they know how to apply pressure to protect their people ( in their eyes ) rather than calling people Nazis.

Its like being back in fourth year at school …my teacher?? …Nazi ! My dad ??? Nazi..definitely !

“you call yourself, and I quote “..and realise I am a howling Nazi”

I have written one post claiming to be a Nazi and probably a thousand condemning attacks on Jews. Yet you remember just the one?

                • “..and probably a thousand condemning attacks on Jews”
                  So you claim Berchmans.
But Berchmans you also wrote above in your post JANUARY 30, 2014 @ 2:49PM
“But surely you dont trust a liar”

  6. “someone who notices that a first world nation has attacked a city using munitions of a power differential of several hundreds to one against the perceived threat.”

Rocket attacks on children are usually perceived as a threat, certainly by their parents, and it is commonplace for those that defend the innocent to neuter it, which means going amongst the murderers who lie in wait behind their own children with their bombs and booby traps. It is unfair and absurd to expect IDF soldiers to walk in with limited weaponry so that the fight is evenly matched and their losses match the enemies. No commander can expect his men to lay down their lives for others who kill their children.

Off Topic, but I owe you an apology.

The other day on the thread about Bergen-Belsen I misread your posts.
      For that I apologise.

    • ” Rocket attacks on children are usually perceived as a threat, ”

They are cowardly and murderous but the retaliation during Gaza 08 was one hundred to one. In a more enlightened age when the US and UK are not also destroying lives by the thousands such a ratio will seem unnecessarily nay brutally high.

      • Titterton , the social worker for Antisemitism, knows what is appropriate for Jews: being killed without a whisper, not self defending which, according to Antisemites, is defined as inappropriate retaliation. Well, no news to Jews.

        • ” being killed without a whisper, ”

What are you like you embarrassing pillock with your truly feeble understanding of any position that is not full support for Israel ? I have sent thousands of posts to CIF savagely attacking violence against Jews.. for some years it was my outstanding post . I would every day condemn any attack sometimes many times. I will do it now.

I condemn any violence against Jews and mourn the loss of every Jew killed or frightened as a result of rockets etc. Such attacks are cowardly , self defeating murderous, counterproductive and a brutal slap in the face for the millions of Muslims all over the world who are attempting to lead peaceful lives.

Now just away an bile yer heid.

          • Right Webbsite;
I’ll say it once and give you one chance.
How would you have stopped the rockets coming from Gaza in 2008?
what’s the grand plan of yours that we obviously cannot see ourselves?

            • “How would you have stopped the rockets coming from Gaza in 2008? ”

I would have noted that from Aug to November there were none and I would not have killed the Hamas leaders on Nov 4 th and start it up again. And yes I have a link but with windows 8 I cant seem to post here and get links at the same time. Maybe its me .

              • I would have noted that from Aug to November there were none …
Of course you would have and would have demonstrated your complete malevolent stupidity and ignorance. During this period 107 rockets and mortars have been launched at Israeli civilian targets from Gaza.
…and I would not have killed the Hamas leaders on Nov 4 th and start it up again.
Why would you kill one of your Islamofascist brother in arms??

                • You half wit …your own chart shows 17 from June to Novermber ..the second figure is for mortars ..you have taken the second figure as if one and one makes eleven. I repeat the rockets had fallen to one in September and one in October..YOUR OWN CHART SHOWS THIS if you had the intelligence to read it

The rise occured after the IDF killed the people on No v 4th.

                  QED

                • You Antisemite keep on lying, first stating that
“I would have noted that from Aug to November there were none and I would not have killed the Hamas leaders on Nov 4 th and start it up again”
and when refuted then insulting and lying once more, you scum
” I repeat the rockets had fallen to one in September and one in October.”
Fuck off. That`s really enough, Adam, with this Antisemite.

                • Fritz Wunderlich
                  “and when refuted ”

I was not refuted. Peter produced a graph showing rocket attacks had fallen to one a month by Oct 08 . He did not read it correctly. It was a delicious own goal.Have a look at his graph. If you have difficulty reading it just ask.

                  ” hat`s really enough, Adam ”

Adam ..Adam hes out smarted me and Peter.Ban him.

                • Fantastic- laureates of a proper British uni after getting four diplomas not only don’t know the meaning of the word algebra but are unable to read a chart and make a simple addition.
August 83, September 13, October 11… How much is it asshole? Not 107 according to your math handbook? Or mortars don’t count?
I repeat the rockets had fallen to one in September and one in October..
Really? And who wrote this “I would have noted that from Aug to November there were none”?
berchmans berchmans the poor Palestinians don’t need enemies like Israel they are doomed having you as a friend anyway…

              • I really misread the chart due to its confusing form of numbers. The number 11 should have written 1-1 or 1/1 meaning that one rocket and one mortar and not 11 both. So let’s correct the result: August eight rockets and three mortars, September one rocket plus three mortars and October one of both. Summing it up during the period from August to October they launched ten rockets and seven mortars. According to the math a la berchmans it is none. So berchmans even taking into account my mistake you again proved your ability to complete a mission impossible making out a bigger idiot of yourself what I thought before.

                • I stand corrected. In September and October 08 there were 2 rockets and 4 mortars . Ghastly and dreadful . However we often see quotes of tens of thousands of rockets in total so a first year stats student might suggest it was slightly down for a few months.

Do we negotiate or send the IDF in ? Decisions decisions decisions! I know ..lets kill a few Hamas leaders.. that will do the trick. That will stop the missiles forever.

                • Do we negotiate or send the IDF in ?
Negotiating with fascists who are launching rockets at you is only for you berchmans. I’m sure when your family members are in deadly danger threatened by murderers your first and last options would be – negotiating – that’s not my problem. But don’t even think about to teach others how do deal with threats, Remember you are not a security expert but an ignorant racist asshole, you should limit yourself to advise the future Scottish Ministry of Defense maybe they won’t die of laughing in the first minute.

                • ” negotiating with fascists who are launching rockets at you”

We have already established …actually you established …that by Oct 08 the rockets had stopped to one a month. The IDF broke the ceasefire on Nov 4 , restarting the rockets . A cynic might suggest that that was their motive .

                • that by Oct 08 the rockets had stopped to one a month. The IDF broke the ceasefire on Nov 4 I see berchmans if Arabs fire 17 rockets during 3 months is not breaking the ceasefire, but when the Jews retaliate then it is.
So for you one rocket a month is nothing, it s even good for the adrenaline level of the Israeli population. You know what I won’t have any problem if anybody wasting his powder and launches one rocket a month at you and your family.
FYI we have now a negotiated ceasefire and during January 2014 twenty eight rockets were launched from Gaza into Israel. Be prepared to your next set of screaming about dead civilians.
I met a number of disgusting anti-semites during my life but your malevolence is simply takes the first prize.

                • “I met a number of disgusting anti-semites during my life but your malevolence is simply takes the first prize.”

You are such a drama queen. YOU made a blunder and said there were ten times as many rockets as there were because YOU couldnt read the diagram. It was an own goal but you keep jumping around claiming I am an anti semite because I noticed your mistake.

I condemn any rocket attack . They are murderous .They are cowardly . I cannot understand why the IDF encouraged them by their murderous attack on 4/11/08 when they had nearly stopped ….however you know these people better than me..maybe there is some agenda to which I am not privy.

      • “They are cowardly and murderous but the retaliation during Gaza 08 was one hundred to one.”
But when the unjust in war are taken to task by the just, the ideal would be for as many of the unjust to perish as possible without the loss of any of the just.

        • Epidermoid, as much as I disagree with Berchman’s views I have to say that this is a very simplistic way to look at any conflict.

          You can put it simpler:
The other side that holds the reins of power prefers death over life and uses the civillians as pawns.
          They survive = they win,
          They die = they win.

People like Berchman will refuse to see that this is what we face every day.
No one is perfect but with all of our faults we never reached as low as that, and i hope we never will.

Until the Palestinians and the wider 150 million Arabs understand that they need to sort they’re issues before any progress can be made there will be no peace.
When Hamas would rather see they’re citizens suffer than accept petrol from the gulf only because it passes through Israel you can tell that there is something fundamentaly wrong in the strip.

          • “People like Berchman will refuse to see that this is what we face every day”

I see what you face and know why you face it. I would negotiate.

            • “I would negotiate.”
              Berchmans that is the problem.
Israel is expected to negotiate with people like you, liars and cowards whose words are not to be trusted.

Do you seriously think that anyone who has read your posts here and at “The Guardian”, before they wisely booted you out, would want to negotiate with a lying, cowardly, Racist invertebrate like you?

    • Epidermoid:

“It is unfair and absurd to expect IDF soldiers to walk in with limited weaponry so that the fight is evenly matched ..”

Not according to Berchman it isn’t!
If you listen to him every Butcher must go and hunt the cows wearing nothing but horned helmets with perhaps another fellow to even the mass.
I believe Berchman is writing this very minute to the crocodile associations. He will sue them if they don’t pluck all their teeth out.

…”and their losses match the enemies. No commander can expect his men to lay down their lives for others who kill their children.”

The much harder issue which oh so clever braveheart Berchman cannot see is that the Hamas and hizbullah are after live or dead captives so they can free further murderers.
This is what we cannot have and they know it.

Further more, Webby is being biased and totally ignore the factors that brought the IDF to enter Gaza or South Lebanon in the first place.
It was “our plan” you see, and it worked perfectly – so it seems…
      Don’t you see it?
Neither can I, but he asured me of it.
You liusten to Berchman long enough you can draw a parallel that his family is at fault for WW2.
After all if Hitler had won WW1 none of it would have happen….
      Yeah right.

      • “People like Berchman will refuse to see that this is what we face every day.”

It has been described as cognitive narcissism, the conviction that because I think in some way, and since I am by definition a decent man, then all other men must be treated as equally decent despite all evidence that they are not. This imperative is doubly insistent should the other be a chosen honorary victim selected for safe and distanced caring. Hamas really do welcome the deaths of children but for some, this is too dissonant to cope with and rage erupts when it is suggested, even when it is suggested by Hamas itself.

        • “his imperative is doubly insistent should the other be a chosen honorary victim selected for safe and distanced caring.”

You are trying to debate bias and discrimination and no disrespect but it is waffle..it has to be studied , The issue is about power ..Israel has it ..military, administrative, positional , trade etc etc no one else does apart from at a very low level .

“Hamas really do welcome the deaths of children ”

If you mean they know that the IDF will kill children in their attacks and gruesomely parade the dead bodies then you are right . But you seem to be missing the larger picture.

      • “the factors that brought the IDF to enter Gaza or South Lebanon in the first place.”

There are many. One that we never discuss here is the imperative to use munitions. If you stop using them people will go out of business in the States and nearer home.

Yes there was terror ,there were old scores to be settled, there was still moral vengeance for WW2…by then the Ayrabs had been well tarred as the new Nazis ,the Mufti well set up ….but most of all if you do not use the munitions you are putting hard working American millionaires out of business .

Are you some kind of commyanist ?

  7. One that we never discuss here is the imperative to use munitions. If you stop using them people will go out of business in the States and nearer home.
Last time this kind of fossilized crap was used in the good old Pravda about thirty years ago. You must be in the shit recycling business berchmans….
