General Antisemitism

What the UK media won’t report: Poll reveals Palestinians are most antisemitic people in the world (UPDATE)

How would you characterize someone who believes that Jews have too much power over the global media and global political affairs, that Jews are responsible for most of the world wars and that people only hate Jews because of the way Jews behave?

Wouldn’t it be fair to label such a person an extreme anti-Semite?

Ok, now let’s suppose that 93% of this person’s fellow citizens feel the same way?

Wouldn’t it be fair to say that such a place is plagued by endemic Jew hatred?

Well, no doubt the mainstream media would agree with these characterizations – if, of course, the country which holds such repulsive views were European.  But, as we have documented repeatedly, even the most extreme and often violent manifestations of such Judeophobia within the Arab world rarely pique the interest of putatively anti-racist news editors.

The tendency of the UK media to bury news which paints an unflattering picture of groups deemed a priori to be ‘victims’ – not possessing “privilege‘ – will be illustrated by the dearth of MSM stories on the results from a new international survey commissioned by the Anti-Defamation League which gauged antisemitism in over 100 countries. As with previous polls conducted by ADL, respondents who believe that at least 6 out of the 11 antisemitic statements (below) are “probably true” are considered to hold antisemitic views. The Index Score for each country represents the percentage of citizens in that country who answered “probably true” to a majority of the statements.

Here are the statements:

statements

So, how antisemitic are the Palestinians?

Well, 93% of Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza surveyed answered “probably true” to a majority of these statements, the largest percentage of any country in the world which was surveyed.

new graph

Remarkably, Palestinians are not only dramatically more antisemitic than the citizens in every Western country surveyed (for instance only 8% of UK citizens, and 9% of Americans, are antisemitic) but are even more antisemitic than citizens in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Pakistan and Iran.

Here are some highlights:

  • 88% of Palestinians believe Jews have too much control over global affairs.
  • 89% believe Jews have too much power over international financial markets
  • 88% of Palestinians believe that Jews have too much control over the global media
  • 78% of Palestinians believe that Jews are responsible for most of the world’s wars.
  • 87% of Palestinians believe that people hate Jews because of the way Jews behave.

We decided to highlight these statements (and not the results of the other statements), because these especially represent antisemitic tropes which overlap perfectly with the ideas laid out in the Protocols of the Elders of Zion, and can’t be fairly characterized as anything other than the historical, conspiracy-driven racism which fueled pogroms, massacres, and even genocide throughout the long history of antisemitism.

Palestinian antisemitism is arguably one of the more under reported political pathologies of our day, and the failure of presumably sophisticated Middle East commentators to grapple and deal honestly with the injurious impact of this enduring hatred contributes to the public’s egregious misunderstanding of both the root cause of the Israeli-Palestinian Conflict and the endemic backwardness and underdevelopment within Palestinian society.

The failure of the Guardian and other UK media sites to report on Palestinian antisemitism not only harms Jews – the object of their hatred – but, as Walter Russell Mead explained, such crippling irrational antipathies also do grave harm to Palestinians themselves.  “Attributing global events to the machinations of an all-conquering Jewish conspiracy”, argued Mead, “is the sign of profound mental and social failure—and a harbinger of more failures and errors to come”.  “Societies”, he continued, that are “in thrall to this kind of darkness…and whose intellectual leaders cannot understand how power works in the modern world…are unlikely to develop the vigorous, forward-looking and competent civil societies that can promote true democracy”.

Even in the event a Palestinian state is created, it is difficult to imagine how such political sovereignty will result in the diminution of such medieval thinking about Jews and their alleged toxic impact on the world.

Those who advocate on behalf of Palestinian rights and yet don’t confront this crippling pathos occupying their collective consciousness are creating an environment whereby Palestinians have no incentive to embark on a path to real progress, and thus will almost certainly be consigned to generation after generation of political, social and economic failure.

UPDATE: The Guardian did in fact publish a datablog report on the ADL’s findings, here.

  1. I have just completed a similar survey among the prisoner population and found that prisoners have among them the highest number of warden haters. That surprises me no end.

    • Thanks Jim. Can I surmise from your reply that you’re one those who look at the history of Jew hatred and have concluded (per one of the poll questions) that Jewish behavior indeed explains antisemitism.

    • If you had a functional brain, and was actually concerned about peace, you would be better off spending your time coming up with compromise and future agreements rather than needing reasons to desperately hang on to your cartoonish imagery of others. Yes, Jim, you are a moron. A dipshit. A pathetic assmonkey, but that’s not because I say so. It’s because you behave so.

Oh, and Palestinian prisoners are free to earn a college education even after they’ve convinced a depressed 15-year-old to blow himself up while standing in line at a pizzeria. That’s YOUR version of a hero.

I just can’t imagine you really wonder about what to do in the Middle East. Shit, Jimbo, I can only imagine you farting around your Mommy’s basement while devising yet another online voice (which, not surprisingly, is as stupid and inept as your other voices).

Way to be a forward thinker, Shitstain. Way to show the world how moronic and hate filled you really are.

    • “I have just completed a similar survey”
      No, you haven’t.
And prisoners generally accept that it’s their own actions that have landed them in prison.

  2. Adam be reasonable my survey was to do with prison population and those questioned were prisoners they were obviously not going to like those who keep them shackled. Now, you can surmise what you like. I do not think, just because all the wardens were men that the prisoners concerned do not like men just that they do not like wardens who imprison them. if it helps you Zionist narrative surmise what you like. why does anybody care? If you want to discuss the issue objectively than I am prepared to discuss it. Do not expect the Palestinians to like you for what you do to them.

    • Dim Jim a few questions.
You write “..my survey was to do with prison population and those questioned were prisoners they were obviously not going to like those who keep them shackled.”

Which country was your survey carried out in?
Certainly NOT a Western country that keeps prisoners shackled.

You write “..just because all the wardens were men that the prisoners concerned do not like men.”
Which country is it where the ‘wardens’ are all men?

You write “..just that they do not like wardens who imprison them.”
As opposed to ‘wardens’ who let them free, who presumably they do like?

The only thing that you have written that is true is “I DO NOT THINK”
True in the past, true at present and doubtless true in the future.

    • Your allegory Abu is perfect. Criminals in a prison obviously hate the prison guards, this is only natural. True they don’t do it on a racial basis, maybe the average criminal is more intelligent than you.

  3. Jim, even if we were to subscribe to your caricature of Israeli villainy, your reasoning is indistinguishable from American racists who hate Muslims because of what some of their co-religionists did on 9/11. Are Palestinians children? Are they unable to distinguish between Israelis and Jews qua Jews? How low do you set the bar?

  4. Adam as I said, if you want to discuss it objectively than look at it from the Palestinian perspective. Every soldier who enters a Palestinian house in the middle of the night is Jewish. Every day when a Palestinian confronts a checkpoint it is a Jewish soldier who confronts him. Stop all that and do another survey after a reasonable time you will find a different answer. As I said, you are only trying to propagate a Zionist narrative. No comparison between 9/11 and what is happening in Palestine under occupation. Most of the Muslim countries are themselves involved in fighting the Al-Qaida menace. Whereas the only Jewish democracy is directly implicated in the oppression of Palestine.

    • Every day when a Palestinian confronts a checkpoint it is a Jewish soldier who confronts him. Stop all that and do another survey after a reasonable time you will find a different answer.
I agree. Stopping the checkpoints could eliminate the palestinian Jew-hatred. Antismites hate only the living Jews.

    • Every soldier who enters a Palestinian house in the middle of the night is Jewish.
Or Druze, or Christian or Muslim.
Abu, Abu you forgot your pills again.

    • There are checkpoints in Gaza and areas controlled by the PA manned by Hamas and Fatah.
“Palestine” was a Roman controlled territory, never a country. The only armed troops in Gaza are Hamas. There are no Jews in Gaza. Evey year there are fewer Christians because Hamas and the Muslims hate them almost as much as they hate Jews.

    • Why do you bother to argue here when your knowledge of the terrain is so limited? You make a fool of yourself and more important, you show how illegitimate your point of view is every time you post.

If I had tenure here I would say come back often.

    • So reading what you say, I take it that you think it’s alright or are justified for a Palestinian to think this way. The fact that many Arabs thought this way about Jews BEFORE Israel existed proves the point that your reasoning is fatuous. By not raising even an eyebrow Jim I doubt you have any concerns except for blowing your polemical political trumpet.
I may have been harmed by someone from a racial, religious or ethnic group different to mine , but that does not make me necessarily personally hateful towards that group as a whole. The line of argument simply does not add up.
Adam’s point is much bigger than yours Jim. What he implies here is that Palestinians who hold such hateful views are not likely, on these figures to be a willing party to accept Israel at all on any terms , and people like you and the Guardian, are deluded into thinking that a simple removal of checkpoints, withdrawal from the West Bank etc etc will make this hatred disappear. In your dreams Jim.

  5. As a passionate Zionist and citizen of Israel, I can understand how folks might agree to four or five of these beliefs. There are winners and losers in life. The Pals could have joined the Jews in being winners, but they have been trapped in ultimately self-destructive hatred and jealousy.

  6. Dr, There are winners and losers in life. Not a very compassionate argument is it? say that to the victims of the genocide, or dare I say it to the victims of the Holocaust. Even losers have to be compensated and redressed. Anything else is not acceptable in this day and age.

    • Even losers have to be compensated and redressed.
Not exactly. Losers can be left alone when they are ready to compromise and stop fighting. Why should compensate the agressor who lost?
Anything else is not acceptable in this day and age.
Only this is accepteble at this day and age.

  7. Jim Daviison aka NatziePampers is nuts. According to his comparisons a Palestinian, a term is stolen from the Jews, is a prisoner and lives in a house as a house owner at the same moment. Well, a house subventioned by the EU, heated by the OPEC, build by the UN and a prisoner fed by Qatar and Iran, educated by the USA, but armed by Russia and clothed by Saudi-Arabia.
Well, these poor prisoners in their homes from where they fire mortars and rockets, and send their children to suicide attacks.
Terror as the only tradition a population shares, subventioned by “goodwill”.

  8. Just to be clear, Jim. One last time. Are you arguing that the fact that “78% of Palestinians believe that Jews are responsible for most of the world’s wars” is caused by the occupation?

  9. Let it be very clear, The answer to your question is yes.

Why do you think it should be otherwise. If all you experience is an oppression by a country that claims to represent the Jews world wide and very few Jewish voices are heard that opposes that oppression than why should the Palestinian perception be any different even if what this survey suggests is true.

As I said change the ground realities. Give Palestinians their rights. End the occupation. End house demolitions and imprisoning children. Than the Palestinian perception will begin to change.

You have cried wolf too often it is not working anymore. Adam, you are more collected than others on this blog for whom abuse is a norm. Perhaps you know crying wolf would only work for so long and it is damaging to your cause.

    • Jim when you say “end the occupation” which areas of the British Mandate of Palestine are in your mind? An other question: If Israel will “end the occupation” how many Palestinian should have get the right to settle in the areas remaining under Israeli sovereignty?

    • Dim Jim I asked you several questions about your ‘survey’ to remind you and to save you the effort of scrolling up here they are again;

      “Dim Jim a few questions.

As opposed to ‘wardens’ who let them free, who presumably they do like?”

Are you going to answer Dim Jim or just confirm what we already know that your ‘survey’ never existed. It is another of the lies and myths you peddle.

    • “Why do you think it should be otherwise.”
Because we know how bigotry and prejudice work. When one is brought up in a society where indoctrination to believe all problems are the result of the existence of the Other, and that is the price one must pay for admission into that society, that is what one believes. It’s one of those little lessons history was supposed to teach you.

  10. Why do you think it should be otherwise?
why did they hate us before 67?
Fact is that jews were hated by muslims long before the state of Israel exsited.

  11. The ADL Poll on which this article is based more or less coincides with another poll which was published two days ago. This is the Pew Report, an academic survey of attitudes towards Jews, Roma (Gypsies) and Muslims in seven EU countries.
I am unclear how those expressing opinions were selected — for example France has the highest Muslim population of these seven countries yet the Report shows that Muslims are viewed more favorably in France than in the other countries.
Whether this was due to statistically more Muslims answering the questions in France I haven’t yet been able to determine as I haven’t had time to go through the whole background information.

Greece appears to be the most anti-Semitic country of the seven polled.
For anyone interested here is a link:

Chapter 4. Views of Roma, Muslims, Jews

    The Pew Global Attitudes Project

In particular, negative attitudes toward Roma (sometimes also known as Gypsies) are common, while many also give Muslims unfavorable ratings.

  12. Excellent and important post Adam. Given your correct observation about the bias against discussing this problem among the MSM, it behooves those of us who support Israel to promulgate as widely as possible this information.
For example there is no question in my mind that Arab/Muslim irredentism overall has always been the main obstacle to Mideast peace, and this round of attempted “peace talks” was no different–ridiculous Palestinian demands coupled with NO concessions on their part, or even agreement to recognize Israel.

Important to note that again the ‘MSM” with the help of U.S. “leadership, placed most of the onus for failure of these talks on Israel, when in fact it is indeed just these hateful attitudes which obviously most Palaestinians cling to that prevent any meaningful dialogue.

Hence the importance of getting this stuff out to as wide an audience as possible.

  13. While Palestinian antisemitism can be seen as the racist reaction of a primitive society after decades of hostilities, the extraordinarily high level of murderous anti-Jewish racism in faraway Muslim majority countries must be understood as a logical consequence of centuries of religious brainwashing, failures in every area of life like social progress, democracy, economy, culture, science, gender equality compared to the very successful and progressive Israel – these obvious facts must have some kind of reason without questioning their own role in their own fate. These people see in the Jews the quintessence of inexplicable success of others where their allegedly superior societies failed miserably. This explanation is very obvious not only in Muslim countries but in other places too – the best example is Greece with its dying economy and its very high level of antisemitism.

  14. I have been looking at the (London) Daily Mail on-line since my post above. They have an article about the ADL Report which is reasonable enough in itself but what I found so appalling are the number of blatantly anti-Semitic BTL comments from DM readers in the UK.

The Daily Mail (like CiF) purports to have standards that posters must adhere to, but quite clearly the standards are purely arbitrary. One commenter likens Jews to a guy who has been barred from every pub in town, suggesting that there must of course be some reason for it, Another poster simply says ‘Holocaust… yawn’.

A number of posts blame Palestinian anti-Jewish sentiments on the ‘occupation’, others keep promoting the misconception that ‘Arabs are Semites so how can they be anti-Semites?’

The questions in the ADL Poll are not questions that are representative of facts. It would be perfectly possible on such lines to construct a poll about ‘science’ asking stupid questions such as ‘Is the earth flat?’; Do you agree that the sun travels round the earth?’ ‘Do you agree that flatulence contributes to global warming?’

These childish questions might well generate large numbers in agreement in certain parts of the world. That is how I see the anti-Jewish respondents to the ADL’s questions, yet the mere fact there are clearly so many anti-Semites at large has to be a cause for deep concern.

    • Your comment in its entirety could likewise apply to BTL comments under the Guardian article.
Some didn’t even bother to read the article itself and the background, instead jumping straight in with the pathetic apologetics – i.e. blaming Israeli policy, when the latter was not even mentioned in the questions!

  15. 3/4 of the Palestinian population were ethnically-cleansed,their lands occupied and their people degraded and humiliated. Jews are hardly going to be flavour-of-the-month, are they?

    • You have no idea alex. The Jews not only cleansed ethnically the Palestinian population but used the blood of their children to baking their matzo at Passover, poisoned their wells and sent rats to their cities to cause epidemics. You have to read the Guardian every day if you want to your dream became reality and we publish your rants.

  16. Every ten years the number of allegedly cleansed Arabs increases at a rate of 10%, form 300.000 to now nearly a million.
The only population of the world which still delivers babies in the past.

  17. Well actually Fritz it is a miracle they did not exist and they gave birth to 4.5 million. You would have liked them to be bathed and not just cleansed even though they did not exist. This would have avoided your demographic nightmare racist prick.

    • “Well actually Fritz it is a miracle they did not exist and they gave birth to 4.5 million”
Yes Jane if as you write ‘they did not exist’ but ‘they gave birth to 4.5 million’ You are correct that would be a miracle.

“You would have liked them to be bathed and not just cleansed even though they did not exist”
Jane why, or indeed how, would you bathe and cleanse something or someone that does not exist?

  18. NatziePampers the antisemitic conspiracy nut fabricates his stories Well, with well educated and intelligent friends like him the Arabs will succeed in retaining the status the Arab Human development reports confirm each time they are published.
    F.e.
Surveying the status of knowledge in the Arab region, the Report found that the quality of education has deteriorated severely, and there is a severe mismatch between the labour market and the education system. Adult illiteracy rates have declined but are still very high: 65 million adults are illiterate, almost two-thirds of them women. Some 10M children still have no schooling at all. One of the gravest results of their poor education is that the Arabs, who once led the world in science, are dropping ever further behind in scientific research and in information technology. Investment in research and development is less than one-seventh of the world average

  19. Gerald you do realize we are talking about the make believe Zionist bubble where people do not exist except the colonizers. In that world everything is possible because everything is make believe. Alternatively it is the racist interpretation of the world where others are not people. Fortunately the racist world is shrinking fast. Apartheid South Africa is gone. Guess what, the only democracy in the Middle East is about to vanish because of its own folly.

    • No Jane it is you who is living in a make believe World.
You are the one who wrote “..it is a miracle they did not exist and they gave birth to 4.5 million” And also “..You would have liked them to be bathed and not just cleansed even though they did not exist”

I do not know if you are living in a bubble or just have your head firmly stuck up your own arse! But whichever it is without doubt, in this World and the parallel World you inhabit, to put it politely you are an idiot.

    • Seems 51 members of the leage of nation belive that Jews deserve a national home in Israel not the arabs. It was arabs themselves who admitted that there is no palestinian people

  20. It is entertaining to wind up racists – The language that emanates from their mouths is colorful. 4.5 Million was a decade ago. My fault for quoting historical data. Today it stands at over 6 million a real demographic threat to the Zionist bubble.

    • Tehran Jane you are making silly spelling mistakes again.
You have written, “My fault for quoting historical data”
To be truthful, for a change, you should have written, “My fault for quoting hysterical data.”

    • Threat to the zionist bubble? Not really. Zionism belives that Israel is the natural home to any jews who feel persecuted around the world. This goal is happaning every day and happaned in the past. Sadly only after the 2WW. more than 6 million Jews live in Israel a great success for zionism . Now when you look at the arab national movement than indeed you see a national movement that is disintegrating and show that they were indeed created by imperialiism that established natiional states without true nations behind them. We see how Syria Iraq and Lebanon are seperated into minorities contorled areas like they were before 1920.
So you can repeat over and over again how there is a threat to the zionsit bubble but facts show that zionism is doing very well while your friends are not.

    • Tehran Jane so not only are you poor at spelling, history, logic, and the truth. But you think Tehran is in Saudi?

      You really are a moron.

  21. Need to get a bit more colorful – you are getting there – may be the Saudi Jane is also warming to you. Tehran Jane no chance you know that.

  22. I would be surpreis if they were not antisemeite they are educated to hate jews.. Just look at what their official tv show theie children. it is all about jews are pigs and apes ,Jews are enemies of Allah etc etc

    • Something with which NatziePampers aka Jane grew up and considers it as natural.
