Read Adam Levick’s latest article in The Jewish Chronicle

Here are the first few paragraphs of Adam Levick’s latest article in the Jewish Chronicle:

“You have to keep an eye on who you are following on Twitter and where the picture you’re tweeting came from,” warned a BBC journalist in a short video that accompanied an article posted on BBC Trending, a section on the corporation’s website which selects stories that are popular on social media around the world.

The article was entitled, “Are #GazaUnderAttack images accurate?”, and looked at images shared on social media by pro-Palestinian activists during the current war in Gaza.

The short post focused on the above Twitter hashtag, which, the BBC noted, “has been used hundreds of thousands of times, often to distribute pictures claiming to show the effects of the air strikes”.

The BBC warned that a “BBC Trending analysis has found that some date as far back as 2009 and others are from conflicts in Syria and Iraq”.

  1. Great News Adam Gaza is not under attack the 54 Gazans dead so far is a figment of my imagination. The funerals are all a treacherous plot to deamonize the Zionist state. What does that make you? Disgusting thing to do worse than dancing on somebody’s grave. Goebbels would have been proud of you. Has the Hasbara lot lost any sense of humanity? Perhaps that is what happens to humans to oppress others for so long. .

        • “Well not everyone can write articles in the Guardian”

With its declining circulation, look at the ABCs for June.
And its plummeting reputation, who would want to write for a ‘newspaper’ that is a shadow of its former self?

        • Correct. Not everyone, there are some minimum requirements.
a./You must be a truther with the intellectual ability of an amoeba
          or
          b./You must be a certified Jew-hater
          or
c./ You must be a card carrying member of the far left fringe
          or
d./You must be a proven record of your vicious hate of western democracies especially the US and Israel
          or
e./ You must be a loser who assign all of your personal failures to the social environment, Zionism, free-market capitalism,
          or
          f. You must be an extremist promoting your agenda be this the environment, feminism, animal rights etc.
Undoubtedly those are only about the 90% the rest are naive clueless people who don’t realize that their contributions are exploited cynically to get more clicks by the hate-everything mob.

    • So you are frustrated Jane seeing your lies, libels and smears have been debunked. Are you angry Jane? Very good.

    • Poor NatzieJane, now she can`t cheer Jewish victims, only mourn dead terrorist. That makes the antisemite angry

    • Jane Mardell writes:

“Goebbels would have been proud of you.”

Ironic that you should bring up a leading figure in the Nazi regime because the reality is that absolutely nothing separates you and your fellow travellers in terms of morality from the kind of people who supported Hitler in his genocidal intentions against the Jewish people. You are an evil and I expect also a very dangerous individual.

    • Jane,
“…the 54 Gazans dead so far is a figment of my imagination.”

Judging that there apparently 100 dead it probably is.

“The funerals are all a treacherous plot to deamonize the Zionist state.”

      Now that I actually believe…

“Has the Hasbara lot lost any sense of humanity?”

But Jane, you assured us that Zionists never had a soul. Make up your mind will you?

“Perhaps that is what happens to humans to oppress others for so long. .”

Now I didn’t say this, you did. Seems to me you are hinting that Saudis and Iranians have lost their humanity.
I don’t think this will go well with your pay masters…

HAMAS can now attack from one end of Israel to another. Also, they can now send their troops into Israel. So get used to living in your bunkers.

  2. Really very enlightening. I wonder whether all those lies are coming home to roost now? The public has been fooled too often by these ‘heartbreaking’ stories. The let-down when they’re exposed is accompanied by a determination not to be fooled again.

Yes, a few people have been killed in Gaza – and most Israelis are saddened by the deaths of innocents – but hundreds of thousands have been killed in Syria, many of them Palestinians. Our indignation meter is full.

I don’t remember any great fuss being made by Gaza about them or any invitation to Syrian Palestinians to join them.

  3. The problem with ‘fauxtography’ is that a photographic image, whether it is doctored or out of context and time, will remain in the memory long after any apology or correction is forgotten.
Photographic images are usually more powerful than the written word. That is why we can expect to see more and more use of ‘fauxtography’ in the propaganda war against Israel.
After all when have the Fascist thugs of Hamas or the kleptocrats of Fatah, and the useful idiots who support them, ever worried about distorting the written word.
So why should they worry about distorting photographic images into ‘fauxtography’.

    • Let’s tot up who’s dead, human beings are being killed, some on one side, wrong, and many many more on the other in revenge, more wrong, innocents in the main, now Thats not propaganda is it, it is state terrorism

      • Noam:

“…human beings are being killed, some on one side, wrong,”

Do you mean it is wrong because it’s only some that die and not many many more?

  4. Hahof How very nice you are sadened by the deaths that according to Adam did not happen. Have you asked the murdering Israeli army to stop it?

  5. I am nasty as compared to your friends who have killed in cold blood over 100 Palestinians, including children and Adam who denies anybody has been killed.

  6. Adam’s article basically makes two points:

    – Palestinian sympathisers are using photographs from another time or place to illustrate current Palestinian suffering;

    – One child amongst many killed by Israelis turned out to have ‘probably’ been the victim of a Palestinian rocket misfiring.

None of this takes away from the known fact that Israel has over recent days killed many Palestinian civilians, including women and children. Compared to these crimes the misleading tweets and careless reporting Adam complains of fade into insignificance.

Ceasefire terms could probably have been agreed last week given some Israeli good will. Now even Obama is offering to mediate a ceasefire. Meanwhile Netanyahu steps up the killing and destruction, saying: “I am not speaking with anyone about a ceasefire. That is not under consideration”.

    • Sencar you are kindly invited to join the Hamas Foreign Human Shield Brigade. Your short stay will be paid by UNRWA but be careful to buy only a one-way ticket, unnecessary expenses won’t be reimbursed.
Ceasefire terms could probably have been agreed last week given some Israeli good will.
The joke of the Protective Edge operation.

    • “Compared to these crimes the misleading tweets and careless reporting Adam complains of fade into insignificance”

      No Brian/sencar you are wrong.
The ‘misleading tweets and careless reporting’ are fanning the flames of the conflict, so they are not insignificant.
A lot of the ‘misleading tweets and careless reporting’ are deliberately misleading, they maybe sloppy but are not careless as they are meant to mislead.
The ‘misleading tweets and careless reporting’ is a part of the on going campaign being waged by those who want to delegitimise Israel whether by cowardly terrorist attacks by the Fascist thugs of Hamas and the kleptocrats of Fatah or the propaganda campaign waged by their ‘useful idiots’ like yourself and others.

        • noamy cry-baby have you come out from hiding under your rock with all the other terrorist supporting scum?

          • “cry baby” , talking about human life, what scum you are gerry, human sewage, you have revealed you have no humanity left. Pathetic excuse for a human being

            • noamy cry-baby being insulted by you is like being savaged by a dead sheep!

              Now off you go.
Back into your hiding hole cowering in a pool of your own urine and excrement, with all the other terrorist supporting cowardly scum.

              • dear me gerry baby such an asshole of hate you are, what a big man you are, Now off you go.
Back into your hiding hole cowering in a pool of your own urine and excrement, with all the other Zionists supporting cowardly scum. to all the reasonable fair minded human beings on here who oppose the Zionist followers here i suggest strongly that you stay away from this site , it only encourages their payment by mr levick

                • noamy cry-baby do I ‘hate’ anything?
Yes I hate distortions of fact,
Yes I hate attempts to twist history to suit an agenda,
                  Yes I hate liars.

But for you noamy cry-baby I mainly feel pity.
You are such an illiterate, contemptible, anti-Semitic little twat who makes a clown of themself every time they post.
To hate you would be the same as to hate a dog turd in the street.

                • Eamonn must live in desparate conditions when he can only speak of excrements and urine, the poor idiot.

    • Ceasefire terms could probably have been agreed last week given some Israeli good will.
When stupidity and malevolence met Sencar. Your pets haven’t been informed about your wise allegation:
      http://www.timesofisrael.com/operation-protective-edge-israel-hamas-day-4/
Hamas officials condemn Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas after he calls for a ceasefire, Palestinian Media report.
Hamas Gaza spokesman Fawzi Barhoum accuses Abbas of “watching the conflict from the sidelines.”
“Israel started the conflict but it will not decide how it will end,” the Hamas spokesman says.

  7. Zombies don’t understand. When 800 Israeli rockets kill 90 Palestinians, it’s either because Israel is sparing lives, or Israel is really awful at committing a mass genocide.

Of course, as a Palestinian supporter, they only want more dead Palestinians. Because, see, saving their lives means only that Israel will perpetuate their suffering.

    Very Zombie on the logic.

    • Kouf:

“Of course, as a Palestinian supporter, they only want more dead Palestinians. Because, see, saving their lives means only that Israel will perpetuate their suffering.”

actually saving their lives and reaching peace will reduce their paycheck from UNRWA and other Arab / Muslim doners.

      • “..from UNRWA and other Arab / Muslim doners.”

Itsik don’t forget how much is donated by the EU.
As soon as the new Commission is appointed along with the new Head of the EEAS, (Lady Catherine Ashton is clearing her desk), I intend to campaign as hard as I can to put a stop to ALL donations to the West Bank and Gaza. If they can afford to buy rockets and finance terrorism then the EU should stop ALL aid forthwith.

        • “If they can afford to buy rockets and finance terrorism then the EU should stop ALL aid forthwith.”

1 The cost of rockets is a tiny proportion of Gaza GDP.

2 What terrorism – if you discount the rockets?

It doesn’t surprise me, Gerald, that you would like to see Gazan women and children starve. That would clearly be the result if external aid was stopped – mainly owing to the crippling effects of Israeli and Egyptian blockades.

          • And the blockade is a result of what oh wise warrior for the rights of the Palestinians launching rockets at Israel?

          • “1 The cost of rockets is a tiny proportion of Gaza GDP.”

            Really Brian.
So what is the cost of the rockets?
And what proportion is this cost of the total Gaza GDP?

I await your answer with interest.

            • “So what is the cost of the rockets?
And what proportion is this cost of the total Gaza GDP?”

              Not too difficult, Gerald:

Gaza’s GDP for 2012 fourth quarter was $430 million according to the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics. Let’s quadruple that to get an approximate annual figure:
              =$1720 million.

2221 rockets were fired from Gaza in 2012 (including 1734 in November) according to the Israel Security Agency.

The cost of each Qassam rocket was “upto $800” in 2008/9 according to The Jewish Policy Centre:
              http://www.jewishpolicycenter.org/prr/qassams.php

              Multiply 2221 by $800 = $1,776,800

              $1,776,800 as a proportion of $1,720,000,000 = 0.103%

So there you have it, Gerald. The rockets during quite a busy year cost about 0.1% of Gaza’s GDP.

              • “Not too difficult, Gerald:”

Well it was for you Brian.

First of all you take a figure for GDP for Gaza, from an unverified source, for 2012.
Then you use a figure for the estimated cost of the rockets for 2008.
If you had any knowledge of statistics, or intellectual honesty, you would know that is exactly what politicians do when they want to twist figures and statistics to suit their own agendas. It is known as ‘moving the goalposts’.

I am prepared to accept the figure for first quarter 2014 for Gaza GDP, from a verifiable source, and the current cost of the rockets.
But please don’t waste, or try to waste, my time with old politicians tricks. They don’t work with me.

              • Sencar even in your case I didn’t expect this a./ignorance of economy b./stupidity c. willful ignorance (take your pick)
The cost of the rockets are nothing compared to the expenses of the infrastructure necessary to smuggle them in, to store them, to maintain them, to pay the launch crew and the wasted quantity of building material used for the bunkers and the tunnels. But don’t be influenced by facts and keep on whining about the lack of concrete due to the blockade.
Thank you for demonstrating the understanding of reality by a witless hater “anti-Zionist”.

          • Interesting Brian that you think this;
“It doesn’t surprise me, Gerald, that you would like to see Gazan women and children starve. That would clearly be the result if external aid was stopped”

So what you are writing is that the Fascist thugs of Hamas will make sure that they are Ok while they watch the women and children starve.

            Yes Brian you are correct.
The Fascist thugs of Hamas do not give a flying fig for the people of Gaza they are just pawns in their struggle to destroy Israel.

  8. Cost of Rockets

Gerald criticises me for using a 2008/9 estimate for the cost of Qassams and 2012 figures elsewhere. One uses the data available, even when it’s not ideal. Gaza consumer price inflation rates for 09/10/11 were 9.9%, 3.5% and 5% respectively, so you can add roughly a fifth to rocket material costs.
    http://www.indexmundi.com/g/g.aspx?c=gz&v=71

Peter notes that raw materials are only a part of the overall cost of launching rockets. True enough, but even if you double or triple the material costs and add in inflation the proportion of GDP remains a fraction of 1%.

    • Brian I criticise you for attempting to mix figures from different years.
A tactic that you know, or should know, is dishonest.

If the only data that you can find is incomplete then it demonstrates that your motives in attempting to use incomplete data are either dishonest or very amateurish, or both.

By the way Brian the initial figure you quoted for the cost of a rocket was for the cost of the raw materials needed, it did not include assembly or transportation.

Do you not read your own links Brian?
Or were you hoping that nobody else would and not notice that you were attempting to stretch the truth?

      • 1st two paras: Rubbish. I stated the years I was quoting from – so hardly dishonest. I also made an allowance for inflation in my second post.

3rd para:Again rubbish. I made it clear that I was talking about raw materials in my second post.

4th para: I seem to read my links rather more carefully than you read my posts, Gerald.

          • You obviously missed the point of this thread, Fritz. Gerald proposed cutting off aid to stop the rockets. I merely pointed out that the rockets come pretty cheap but that cutting off aid would lead to more civilian suffering – or perhaps that’s what you want? The Knesset deputy speaker certainly would. He proposes cutting of Gaza’s electricity so that dialysis patients die.

            • No Brian you attempted, and failed, to concentrate on one of the types of rocket the cheapest type.
Not surprised you are trying, and failing, to defend the indefensible.

            • The Knesset deputy speaker certainly would. He proposes cutting of Gaza’s electricity so that dialysis patients die.
At the moment in the Soroka Hospital in Beer-Sheva the Israelis treat patients from Gaza without reimbursement from the Palestinian authority. The Palestinians owe tens of millions of dollars electricity bills but Israel continues to supply them on the expense of the Israeli taxpayer. Meanwhile a Gazan patient tried to smuggle a bomb, into the hospital and Hamas launches rockets at the Ashkelon power station.
Now don’t misunderstand me sencar, I didn’t write down here these facts in order to convince you – it would be th same vain effort like trying to change the habits of a stinking hyena.

            • I understand, you demand that the world shall feed, subvention, house and nurture the population so that the terroristic Hamas, Islamic Djihad etc. are free to pursue their murderous zeal, to kill as many Jews as possible , without any obligation to the population it maintains to rule.
The world pays the rent, and therefore there are enough young men and money for killiing.
Without this rent, the negotiations would immediately begin, because only then the so called Palestinians will acknowledge that they had lost the civil war long before, in 1947/48.

        • Very dishonest, and sad that you are unable to acknowledge what you are attempting, and failing, to do.

“I also made an allowance for inflation in my second post.”
Brian you mentioned inflation figures for 09/10/11 and then guessed at an overall rate of inflation.

Frankly Brian your attempts to cover up your attempts to guess the cost of a rocket and how this relates as a proportion of GDP for Gaza, have destroyed any credibility you had.
Your only response when your obvious attempts to stoop to old politicians tricks is exposed is to try and obfuscate even more.
No, Brian your amateur attempts to twist and conjure up non-existent figures are risible.

Stick to wandering around Knutsford shouting at the ducks, perhaps they will not laugh at you.

        • “3rd para:Again rubbish. I made it clear that I was talking about raw materials in my second post.”
So, in other words, you’re telling us that the total cost of rockets = the cost of the raw materials.
Actually what you’re really telling us is that Hamas in its overarching mission to annihilate the Zionist entity devotes a minuscule % of Gaza’s GDP toward that purpose. Incredible.

    • Yes sencar. When supposedly there is a very heavy restriction importing commodities like concrete – their prices must be in the skies. Do you know how much concrete is needed to a launching silo? Do you know how many smuggled steel tubes are needed for manufacturing rockets? But I like your screaming about the lack of proper sewage treatment infrastructure in Gaza due to the brutal Israeli blockade…
