Celebrating 5 years of CiF Watch!

Friends,

Last week, CiF Watch celebrated its 5th anniversary.

In our inaugural post on Aug. 24, 2009 we announced our intention to combat antisemitism and anti-Israel bias at the Guardian, and “to regularly post articles exposing the bigoted and one-sided nature of [their] obsessive focus on Israel and, by extension, the Jewish people.”

In recent years we have evolved in several respects:

  • We improved our efficacy by establishing an extremely successful affiliation with CAMERA.

Please continue reaching out to us – by following us on Twitter, liking us on Facebook, or the ‘old fashioned’ way, by emailing us at contactus@cifwatch.com – when you come across misleading claims, or outright factual errors, in reports and commentaries within the UK media.

On the occasion of our fifth anniversary, we’d love to hear your thoughts on the work we do, and how we can more effectively carry out our mission, and continue speaking truth to power.

  1. Adam, you have done a great job and have every reason to be proud.

  2. Cif Watch is very important,
    BBC Watch is very important
    UN Watch is very important
    Matti Friedman says why.
    But still
Haniyeh is right: media are partners in (Hamas) victory.

Haniyeh said that: “the men of the Palestinian media have formed the source from which the world’s media derived all that was going on in Gaza, and was a source for even the Israeli media after they lost confidence in their leaders.”
You make the difference, even if it is a small difference, those skunks know that somebody is watching. Thank you for being there.

    • I would also add that along with all of those sites, MEMRI and Palestinian Media Watch are both very useful, along with along of the watchdog sites. Congrats Adam and to all here and CiF and BBC Watch. I’ve been a long time reader of both sites.

  3. Congratulations on five years!
Speaking truth to power is exactly what you are doing. Keep it up and make sure they know that’s what you are doing.

  4. Started following CiFWatch for several reasons: first I was appalled at the antisemitic mobbing at the Guardian of Melanie Phillips. Second, I have followed the Guardian coverage of the Global Warming Debate. The incredible manipulation of facts in that discussion made me aware that the editor of the Guardian has lost his moral compass. Have also followed the Guardian campaign against homeopathy, which has links with the loonies at remnants of the Revolutionary Communist Party. This convinced me that the Editors of the Guardian don’t understand what they write about and don’t have full control over what gets in the paper and how CiF is moderated.

Until I started following CiF, I was not really aware that the same things I had noted in the debates mentioned above was also happening in the coverage of the Middle East. Now I believe that, just as there are hidden fanatics at work in the scientific debates which I understood, there are also undercover and not so undercover BSD fanatics working at the paper, which the editor doesn’t notice/control/care about/disagree with. Although I have been an active opponent of anti-semitism for a long time, I don’t have the specialist knowledge needed to follow the Israel coverage fully.

Since following CiFWatch, I have become more aware of the extent of modern anti-semitism. My previous activities were mainly concerned with Alt-Nazis such as the REPS leader Franz Schönhuber and the NPD. There is still a deep streak of nazi antisemitism in these groups: in Frankfurt/Main we managed to stop a meeting they wanted to hold in Haus Dornbusch, a meeting hall close to the birthplace of Anne Frank and the location of a wonderful meeting of peace and reconciliation organised by Otto Frank, Anne’s father, when he returned to Frankfurt to meet old friends in the early 1950’s.

It is now clear to me that there is a significant streak of opinion on the left which thinks that Hamas is a legitimate form of resistance against the Occupier, which is in complete denial about the reality of Hamas and the reality of Yasser Arafat and his followers. This madness is reflected in media coverage.

For the future, I would like more coverage of the many Israelis who campaign for coexistence and a peaceful resolution of the conflict. The Guardian conveys a subtle image of Israelis as a new Herrenrasse dedicated to oppressing Palestinians. This stereotype must be exposed. Also think more awareness of anti-Arabism is needed among Zionists/Supporters of Israel.

Anyway, Happy Birthday CiFWatch and best wishes to Adam and his supporters.

  5. Congratulations to Adam and all your colleagues. Without CifWatch and BBC Watch things would be even worse than they are.

I’d like to see a Channel 4 TV NewsWatch (C4 TV is based in London).

    Keep up the great work!

  6. Five years! And what has it got you? Half-a-dozen whining shills congratulating each other under a variety of noms-de-plume and a failed campaign withering under the rising Phoenix of BDS!

    HAHAHAHAHAH!

    • “Five years! And what has it got you?”

Well ‘Laughing Boy’ it has got you somewhere to go while the Nursing staff are changing your soiled sheets in the Asylum.
Now off you trot or it’s back to the ‘Rubber Room’ for you.

    • The rising Phoenix of BDS…
In protest of Israel’s latest operation in the Gaza Strip, South Africans were reportedly mulling a boycott of Israeli-made penis clamps, a “safe, inexpensive, nearly painless, and non-surgical” device used to reduce HIV rates through medical circumcision.
I agree with these guys. The boycott of the penis clamps will cause serious damage to their small dicks, makes them more vulnerable to HIV, no visible damage to the Israeli economy, in short – the usual success of the alex like Jew-haters.
Alex I would I suggest an alternative solution especially for you: Cigar cutters are very cheap tools and you will learn the new cool: – DIY – Do It Yourself!
