The BBC’s selective portrayal of ‘Palestinian reactions’ to UNSC vote

This is a cross post from BBC Watch

As was noted here in an earlier post, while BBC coverage of the UN Security Council’s adoption of resolution 2334 included reactions from “the Palestinian leadership”, none of the numerous reports informed audiences of the fact that the resolution was quickly hailed by the terror organisations Hamas and the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, with praise later added by Khaled Masha’al.erekat-vid

BBC audiences were told that:

“The Palestinian leadership welcomed the UN resolution, which was passed by 14 votes to zero, with one abstention.” (source)

“Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas’ spokesman said the resolution was a “big blow to Israeli policy”. […]

A spokesman for Mr Abbas said: “The Security Council resolution is a big blow to Israeli policy, a unanimous international condemnation of settlements and a strong support for the two-state solution.”

The Palestinian ambassador to the UN, Riyad Mansour said: “The Council’s action, while long overdue, is timely, necessary and important.”” (source)

  1. The big problem about these UN resolutions is that actually they make impossible an agreement between Israel and the Palestinians. A draw does take place . In diplomatic terms the palestinians have win . But as forces on the ground are concerned Israel has the upper hand. the battle. So ,neither side is prepared to make concessions. Israel cannot evacuate all settlements , namely Jerusalem ones. And palestinians have no incentive to make a peace deal, since they are winning on the diplomatic level . Neither has an incentive to make peace agreement.
Palestinian hope is that Israel will get more isolated, subjected to Sanctions, weakened and ultimately defeated in the battle field.
    Such strategy is working.
Israel is being defeated in the diplomatic front , and the axis of resistance ( Iran , Hezbollah, Al Assad ) is getting stronger.
Curiously the Israel government seems unaware of dangers ahead, namely isolation and sanctions. Gaza wars were a disaster as far as public relations are concerned. Gaza wars ( 3 since 2008 ) did greatly damaged Israel diplomatically.

    • BTW, When Arabs/Muslims can’t get along with Arabs/Muslims (see Syria, Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia, Libya, Sudan, Somalia, Gaza, etc.)

how can anyone expect Arabs/Muslims with Jews, Christians, Buddhists, Hindus, Zoroastrians, Shinto, animists, atheists, pagans, gays, Klingons?
