General Antisemitism

The problem of antisemitism is not invented by Jews to smear the left

This post was written by David Hirsh and was originally published at the blog Engage.

George Galloway tweeted: “The Israel lobby has just destroyed the Labour Party. At least this Labour Party. It is an amazing achievement. They’ll be dancing in Dimona”

Alex Callinicos writes: “What’s driving the Labour right’s assault on Jeremy Corbyn over antisemitism—sheer opportunism or ideology?”

Lauren Booth tweets: “@UKLabour has proved itself sadly weak at its core by suspending two MPs at the behest of zio lobby”.

Len McCluskey : The row over anti-Semitism within the Labour Party is nothing more than a “cynical attempt” to challenge Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership.

Michael White tweets: “Will someone point out to the idiots that latest anti-Semitism row was launched by Tory blogger, Guido Fawkes & promoted by Mail on Sunday”

Adam Sutcliffe writes: “It has been quite clearly shown that recent allegations that antisemitism is rife in Labour have been extremely inflated.”

Independent Jewish Voices: “Allegations of antisemitism foster an atmosphere increasingly hostile to  those fighting for the rights of Palestinians.”

Jewish Socialist Group: “Accusations of antisemitism are currently being weaponised to attack the Jeremy Corbyn-led Labour party with claims that Labour has a “problem” of antisemitism.”

Steve Richards: “Never-ending headlines about Naz Shah and Ken Livingstone are damaging, but this is hysteria based on flimsy evidence.”

Asa Winstanley: “How Israel lobby manufactured UK Labour Party’s anti-Semitism crisis.”

Stop the War: “…does not accept the attempt to silence criticism of Israeli oppression of the Palestinian people, or smearing with the charge of anti-Semitism anyone opposing the political project of Israeli expansionism.”

But there is antisemitism on the left.  The campaign to exclude Israelis, and only Israelis, from the global academic, sporting, artistic and economic community is antisemitic.  It singles out Israel for unique punishment and it finds all Israelis, and the Jews who are said to support them, guilty of the crimes, real or imagined, of their state.  Huge and emotional hostility to Israel creates antisemitic discourse and fosters an institutional antisemitism of norms and practices in the left.  This has been manifested recently in a number of clear examples.

  1. The election to leader of the Labour Party of Jeremy Corbyn:
    • Presented a show on Press TV, Iran’s antisemitic propaganda channel.
    • Was Patron of the “Palestine Solidarity Campaign” which fights for a boycott of Israel and which tolerates antisemitism within its ranks.
    • Says that Hamas and Hezbollah are dedicated to the good of the Palestinian people and to social and political justice.
    • Jumped to the defence of antisemites, Raed Salah who indulged in medieval blood libel and Stephen Sizer who said that Israel was behind 9/11.
    • Does not say anything when a 911 truther and associate of David Duke, who he’s sharing a platform with, defends Palestinian terrorism.
    • Continued to support “Deir Yassin Remembered” even when it was well known that it was run by a Holocaust Denier.
    • Agreed to speak alongside Carlos Latuff, 2nd prize winner in Ahmadinejad’s Holocaust denial cartoon competition.
    • Agreed to speak alongside Azzam Tamimi, who said that he’d like to have been a suicide bomber against Israel.
    • Addressed a LaRouche front organisation in Australia.
    • Called for an official inquiry into “pro-Israel” influence in the Foreign Office.
    • Celebrated the anniversary of the Iranian revolution at an event called to “commemorate the auspicious anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran”.
  2. Norman Finkelstein’s cartoon depicting the ethnic cleansing of Israel and the ‘transportation’ of all Jews there to America was shared on Facebook by Naz Shah, who was to become a Labour MP and also by a number of Labour councillors including Blackburn mayor Salim Mulla, who also said that Israel was behind ISIS, and Ilyas Aziz who also posted images appearing to call for Jews to “stop drinking Gaza blood”.
  3. Ken Livingstone:
    • Said that Hitler supported Zionism.  What better way to bait Jews than to compare them to Nazis?
    • In 1982 the paper that Livingstone edited ran a cartoon depicting the Prime Minister of Israel, Menachem Begin, wearing a Nazi uniform and doing a straight-arm salute, standing on a pile of skulls.
    • Hosted Sheikh Yusuf al-Qaradawi at City Hall.  Qaradawi says that Hitler put the Jews in their place; he described the Holocaust as both exaggerated and also as divine punishment.
    • On March 21 2012, a group of Jewish Labour supporters reported that at “various points in the discussion Ken used the words ‘Zionist’, ‘Jewish’ and ‘Israeli’, interchangeably, as if they meant the same, and did so in a pejorative manner.”  Livingstone told the group that Jews are rich and so are not likely anyway to vote Labour.
    • Ken Livingstone was paid to present a programme on Iran’s antisemitic propaganda channel, Press TV.
    • Persistently put down a Jewish journalist by accusing him of being like a German war criminal.
  4. A co-chair of Oxford University Labour Club resigned, saying that a ‘large proportion’ of members had ‘some kind of problem with Jews’.  Jews were belittled by the epithet ‘Zios’ and taunted by the song: ‘Bombs over Tel Aviv’.
  5. The election of Malia Bouattia as President of NUS.  She supports the campaign of murder against Jewish civilians in Israel.  She refers to a university with a strong Jewish society is a ‘Zionist outpost’.  She talks about “mainstream Zionist-led media outlets”.  She supports a boycott of Israel but of nowhere else.
  6. John Mann, Chair of the All-Party Group against Antisemitism: “I’ve had a number of highly precise threats of violence. I’m going to report this to the police. They are threatening me with physical assault — ‘when I see you I will be punching you’ and worse than that. This shows the mind-set of the mob.”
  7. Muhammed Butt, who is the Lead for Equalities at London Councils, shared a clip on social media that appeared to show a young girl from the Palestinian Authority in a conflict with an Israeli soldier. The clip was captioned at the bottom with the words, “Israel is a terrorist state like ISIS.”
  8. Shah Hussain, a Labour councillor in Burnley, tweeted at Israeli footballer Yossi Benayoun: “you are a complete and utter plonker, you and your country doing the same thing Hitler did to ur race in ww2”.
  9. Khadim Hussain, a Labour councillor and a former Lord Mayor of Bradford, resigned from the party after sharing a Facebook post that said: “Your school education system only tells you about Anne Frank and the six million Zionists that were killed by Hitler.”
  10. John McAuliffe: “The Holocaust has been the most useful political tool of the Zionist government in Israel to establish a financial racket in the West, whereby Israel receives an unlimited sum for the duration of its existence.”
  11. Gerry Downing called for Marxists to ‘address the Jewish question’.
  12. In 2011, Labour MP Sir Gerald Kaufman turned to a neighbour on the Commons benches as pro-Israel MP Louise Ellman rose to speak and muttered: ‘Here we are, the Jews again’. He has a record of talking about the influence of ‘Jewish millionaires’ in UK politics and how the Israeli government exploits Holocaust guilt as justification for their murder of Palestinians.
  13. In 2014, Vicki Kirby, a Labour Parliamentary candidate, was warned by the party for posting antisemitic tweets. ‘We invented Israel when saving them from Hitler, who now seems to be their teacher,’ she wrote. She also asked why ISIS was not attacking the ‘real oppressor’, ‘evil’ Israel.  She also tweeted that Jews have  “big noses” and “slaughter the oppressed”.
  14. In 2011 Labour MP Paul Flynn had said that Matthew Gould, Britain’s first Jewish ambassador to Israel, had “divided loyalties”.
  15. In 2003, Tam Dalyell, accused the Prime Minister Tony Blair of “being unduly influenced by a cabal of Jewish advisers”.
  16. There are press reports that Labour has secretly suspended fifty more Labour members for issues connected with antisemitism.
  17. Labour’s Murad Qureshi, who has already served 12 years on the London Assembly, re-tweeted the claim that Katie Hopkins “is proof positive you can get away with deeply offending anyone in this country as long as they’re not Jewish.”

It is wrong to say that there is no antisemitism in the Labour Party, and that this current crisis is a storm, manufactured by Jews, to silence criticism of Israel and to benefit the Tories.

These are not random bad apples in a Labour barrel.  They are important because they are manifestations of a way that many people, including the leader, thinks about Israel and the Jews who relate to Israel.

  1. Limey anti-Semitism began with the introduction of Christianity to the UK.

Labour anti-Semitism is a mere extension of the previous hatred.
    1) Labour came out against the Balfour Declaration.

    2) Gave away the Golan to the French, imported the Saudis to Eastern Palestine Mandate and then gave away 77.5% of our territory.

    3) Prevented immigration Jews to the Mandate

    4) Stop Holocaust survivors from entering the Mandate.

    5) Refused to end the Mandate.

The list of hatred by Labour is massive and this latest examples is a mere tip of the iceberg

    • “Limey” is a racist term. (Neo)Zionism is a racist creed, so no surprise there..

      • Islamofascism is a racist creed, so no surprise that fascists like Migraine revere Islamofascism.

        • Islamofascism is an oxymoron as dumb a word as “Judaeofascism is”. Back to school for you, dumbo…LOL.

          • Moron, Islam calling itself “The Religion of Peace” is an OXYMORON,

            ox·y·mo·ron äksəˈmôrˌän/

A figure of speech in which apparently contradictory terms appear in conjunction (e.g., faith unfaithful kept him falsely true ).

      • You’ll be pleased to learn that both identifying posts made by Edgar regarding you and Miranda have been deleted. I contacted Adam directly around the end of the month, there was a bit of back and forth as he hadn’t seen them and I had to go back and identify where.

  2. Purely in the interest of cherry-pickin’ balance, folks, now take a look at:

‘Which British political party is the most anti-semitic?’ @

And no need to go ploughing through its long list of Labour “transgressions” (you’ve heard them all before). Just jump straight to ‘The Conservative Party’ for LOADS more stuff to confirm your worst fears, though – mysteriously – none has raised even the merest squeak during this smear (whoops, sorry!) election campaign …

    • Mad Cow Miranda let’s take a look at the ward, Stow Hill, in Newport in which you live.
Today it has been announced that one of YOUR Councillors, Mad Cow Miranda has been suspended for anti-Semitism.
Among other things he Tweeted was “Jews in whose name #Israeli #Zionist regime commit war crimes should worry: its’s same arrogant mentality as #Nazis”.

So what are YOU going to do about YOUR local Councillor and his anti-Semitism?
Condemn him or hand out the sweets?

      • @Gerald –

If you were a better stalker, you’d know that I haven’t lived in Stow Hill, or Newport, or Britain, for around ten years. Were you once a journalist, Gerald? Come on, come clean – because, if so, either you must have been a very crappy one, or have completely lost the plot in old age.

        • But what about the points made in today’s article? I don’t think you nor your friends here want to address them.

          • @jeff21st –

“But what about the points made in today’s article…?”

You mean the same old “let’s keep the election focus on antisemitism – and let’s make sure to keep this hammering on LABOUR antisemitism” article?

“I don’t think you nor your friends here want to address them.”

Gosh, and there was me thinking there had been TONS of addressing going on in four consecutive UK MediaWatch articles on the subject …. But maybe they were really only awash with like-minded “let’s hammer Labour” BTL posters, all patting each other politely on the back, and I just hallucinated the squabbling rest.

            • “You mean the same old “let’s keep the election focus on antisemitism”
              Let’s? Who’s the “us” in “let’s”?

“Gosh, and there was me thinking there had been TONS of addressing going on in four consecutive UK MediaWatch articles on the subject …. ”
Sure, UKMediaWatch is focusing on the subject, but my question was to you.

I can see you’re a bit defensive. Apparently you are a Labour supporter who is embarrassed by the propensity of more than a handful of your party members indulging in antisemitic anti-Zionism. It’s OK, you can say so. I can assure you that the pseudo history of the Israel story is not limited to some Labour Party officials/MP’s in your society. It is a much, much larger problem that involves the among others, the British media. I can tell you that when I first began looking at the British media coverage close to a decade ago I was shocked – not by any new information revealing real and alleged Israeli bad behavior, but rather the willing omission of facts in the reportage and commentary used to paint a distorted picture and paint Israel in the most negative light. I had thought Europe had learned its lesson. It hasn’t.

Please give us a list of those Labour Party members you personally have found to cross the line of decency.

What about Daniel Margrain? I don’t believe I’ve seen an article about him at UKMediaWatch. This plagiarist is deluding himself into believing he’s doing original research by plagiarizing bits and pieces of anti-Semitic conspiracy theories about “Zionism,” which have been the mainstay of neo Nazis and holocaust deniers for many decades. What do you think about that?

              • @Jeff21st –

Some comments I’ve seen made (or attributed to) individual Labour party members do, on the face of it, seem antisemitic. Some don’t. But – as you point out in your “omissions of fact” criticism of general media coverage – virtually all lack enough detailed and contextualized investigation to pass anything like fair judgement.

Given this hiatus, I’m damned if I’ll add fuel to what’s clearly an anti-Labour smear campaign (as distinct from a broadly-based attempt to address antisemitism in British politics) by tossing my own opinions about Person X or Y into the fray. Only two outcomes are likely from my doing so in this forum:

                1. My comments would be exploited as “validating” claims of an endemic Labour disease (very far from demonstrated, thanks to Fact Lite reportage). Hey, look, chaps – even Basner agrees Councillor X is a Jew-hater! How many more there must be in the same category! Yup – if even SHE agrees there’s an infestation, there surely is one!

                2. My comments would be exploited as “Labour-in-denial” evidence . Yeah, yeah – there goes Basner again! Refusing to see what a Jew-hater Councillor X is! The stupid cow’s got that tweet right in front of her nose, and there she is asking for “more detail” and “more context”! And she even goes so far as DEFENDING Politician Y when any fool can see that making a “Stop the Settlements” speech on Holocaust Remembrance Day is deeply antisemitic, blah-blah-blah…

                So, no – I won’t play ball.

As for you diatribe against Daniel Margrain – all I’ll say on this is that as long as people keep putting words into his mouth and then “quoting” him as the one who said it, or keep calling him a fascist and then bleating when he uses the same language back, his critics can collectively take a running jump.

                • Mad Cow Miranda when are you going to carry out your empty and farcical threat?
Blustering on here with your empty threats and demonstrating that your ignorance of Israel is only exceeded by your ignorance of the laws of defamation and libel is mildly amusing.
Do you have anymore stupid threats?

                  • Gerald,
Miranda doesn’t seem very confident that she can defend her “nuanced” points of view.

She believes that Danial Margrain is only responding in kind to name calling. Delusional or what?

                    • Jeff,
whether she is confident or not is like her puerile ‘threat’ and bluster about legal action of no value.
I shall follow the advice of a great Welshman, by descent anyway, “Trust in God, and keep your powder dry.”

Very delusional, that is one of the qualifications to join the Axis Of Arseholes and Mad Cow Miranda, Bellend and their pet idiot Margrain amply show time and time again.

        • Mad Cow Miranda to answer your question I am not now, nor have I ever been or had a desire to be a journalist.

        • Mad Cow Miranda if I were any kind of stalker the last person I would stalk would be someone as ugly and fat as you.
I will treat your claims about not living in Stow Hill, Newport, or Britain with the same degree of scepticism as I do every other claim you make.

              • “Do we have a pic of Gerald?”
                ‘We’ being who exactly?

Bellend, many lucky people have a pic of me.
And many very unlucky people have seen a pic of Mad Cow Miranda

                  • Again Bellend ‘us’?
When you use ‘we’ or ‘us’, who exactly do you mean?

Why aren’t you out campaigning for Labour?

                    • Bellend if your question is why am I discriminating against you?

The answer is because I despise you Bellend, you rancid bag of anti-Semitic horseshit!
                      Clear enough for you?

          • @Gerald –

“I will treat your claims about not living in Stow Hill, Newport, or Britain with the same degree of scepticism as I do every other claim you make.”

And I’ll return the compliment by treating your claims with scepticism too. I flat-out reject your denial of having been a journalist and declare you a miserably failed hack. I don’t believe for one moment you support Israel – but are instead a crafty antisemite trying to give Zionism the worst possible image through your poisonous posts. I don’t believe you now live abroad as you once claimed – because you’re too cowardly and xenophobic to travel beyond the Severn Bridge.

I rather doubt you actually exist in any recognisable human form – but are, instead, just the yellowest chicken on some squalid battery farm.

            • Where’s Migraine to throw the Ad Hominim card?

My cards are still at the printers.

            • “And I’ll return the compliment……” not a compliment a statement of fact.

“.yellowest chicken on some squalid battery farm”
You have guessed my true identity!
Although not yellow more brown in colour, you are probably colour prejudiced, and used to typing in highly cramped conditions with a beak.
But if you can believe the other rubbish you post, why not believe that I am indeed a yellow chicken on a battery farm.

              • @Gerald –

As long as you persist in abusing anonymity – i.e, not for self-protection against real-life aggressors, but as a way to defame – you’d best bear one thing in mind:

You actually have a lot LESS leeway than I do to post defamatory comments. If push ever came to shove, I could very easily prove (a) that you were lying about me personally – falsely and maliciously proclaiming me to be antisemitic, or casting doubt on my professional qualifications, for eg – and (b) that I was personally damaged – “exposed to hatred, ridicule or contempt” – by your lies. This would give me excellent grounds to sue for libel.

I, on the other hand, can say whatever the hell I like about you because nobody who knows you (or can track you down personally) would even be aware I was making them … unless, of course, you then chose to “out” yourself – in which case any resulting “hatred, ridicule or contempt” would have been brought on your own head, since it was YOU who decided to publicize my nasty allegations to the real-life world you inhabit.

Your style of “argument” often comes dangerously close to crossing legal red lines. So I’d advise you to think a LOT more carefully before next posting.

                • Mad Cow Miranda take your pathetic warnings and shove them up your fat anti-Semitic arse!
Bring it on fatso, I’m waiting.

                    • You’ll be no doubt not pleased to learn that both identifying posts made by you regarding Edgar and Miranda have been deleted. I contacted Adam directly around the end of the month, there was a bit of back and forth as he hadn’t seen them and I had to go back and identify where.

I’m quite serious about not escalating the vitriol of the discussion to the point of revealing personal information about another individual online, and quite willing to recommend temporary or permanent banning for repeated offenses. It isn’t public information, it’s forced speech and a violation of their rights, just as it would be a violation of your right to remain anonymous if they or anyone else did the same. You might want to review the brief on this written by American Justices Brandeis and Warren and think about it for at least a few hours before reacting.

Part of the reason one doesn’t publish other people’s address, and for the purposes of argumentation a facebook address qualifies, is that by removing privacy it facilitates violence against them, which is an undesirable state of affairs in any society. But lets take it one step further – should one justify or publish threats of violence against someone at all. The answer again is no – especially if their address is known – say the Queen or David Cameron. No. It is a reasonable limitation of a free press. Its perfectly fine to condemn someone for this, but not to justify it in a public forum.

The same rule should apply to Margrain and Basner. Care to infer the next step? 🙂

                  • What’s your authority for calling me anti-Semitic,Gerald? And please quote any comment I’ve ever made, either here or elsewhere, to support your allegation.

Failure to provide an answer will suffice as proof that you are knowingly – and maliciously – pursuing a libellous hate campaign.

                    I’m waiting.

                    • Mad Cow Miranda try not to use ‘faux’ legal language, not only does it not work but it makes you look like a blustering pompous clown, with little or no knowledge of the law.

If you are that ignorant of the law and feel you can pursue a case, go ahead and do it.
But your empty threats are getting tedious, so either carry out your threat or stop making foolish threats.

In other words Mad Cow Miranda, Put up, or Shut up!

                    • What’s your authority for calling me anti-Semitic? My answer: when its walks like duck and when it quacks like a duck the it is certainly a duck. Deborah Lipstadt’s answer: We know anti-Semitism when we see it.
(I know Deborah Lipstadt is very unpopular in sencar, Basner, Margraine and Bellamy circles and I perfectly understand why…)

                    • Your use of the term Hasbara has a striking resemblance to Hamas’ use of the term Hasbara. I would start with that, and then come around to pointing out how wrong you felt Israel was in defending its citizens from missile strikes in 2014. Missile strikes which were justified by you as being necessary to fight the Oppressive Israeli Forces keeping those Poor Pitiful Palestinians down and stateless.

I would further add that you hold special scorn for American Jews whom you have accused on these boards of controlling American Foreign Policy in order to continue war mongering for money.

Based on that evidence, I have determined you to be a blithering, batshit, and anti-Semitic nutbag.

                • “casting doubt on my professional qualifications, for eg” – in what language is this illiterate nonsense ‘for eg’ supposed to be?

            • He treats your posts badly because the information in them is 100% faulty and you revel in that. You’re a TROLL, dear, and if you want to keep being one you’re going to get what you give 100X. That’s a troll’s life. If you want to be a lying irritant you have every right to be per free speech principles, but if you want to do yourself a favor stop pulling the bitchy wounded martyr act. It makes you look like the world’s most obnoxious mental defective.

        • But you did live there, yes? So you are guilty, yes? After all, all Jews who support Israel are guilty of the crime of Israel. Not to mention, all Jews who support Israel are dispensing Hasbara upon the masses.

Come now, my little Israel bashing, America trashing, Jew hating piece of work…. Don’t avoid the criticism. Try to better yourself for once, okay?

        • “If you were a better stalker, you’d know that I haven’t lived in Stow Hill, or Newport, or Britain, for around ten years” – and yet you pretend to understand Britain, mad cow.

    • You’ll be pleased to learn that both identifying posts made by Edgar regarding you and Edward have been deleted. I contacted Adam directly around the end of the month, there was a bit of back and forth as he hadn’t seen them and I had to go back and identify where.

      • I. King –

Many thanks for that. Hopefully, Adam will now keep a closer eye on this site’s BTL content and take steps (so far indiscernible) to ensure that all posters – no matter what their I/P views – stick to his “User conduct” rules, which include a bar on comments that are:

“…harmful, threatening, unlawful, defamatory, infringing, abusive, inflammatory, harassing, vulgar, obscene, fraudulent, … hateful, or racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable.”

        • Mad Cow Miranda I’m still waiting for you to carry out your ‘threat’ of legal action.
          As I posted yesterday,
          Put up, or Shut up!

Your posts on ‘defamation’, ‘libel’ and legal action are fraudulent and threatening and an attempt to infringe on free speech.

Close the door on your way out.

          • @Gerald –

“I’m still waiting for you to carry out your ‘threat’ of legal action…”

It wasn’t a “threat” but a warning – that there ARE limits to free speech, and that one of those limits is on defamatory speech As things stand, I’ll take whatever action I think necessary (when and if I like) but you can definitely count on one thing:

I won’t “put up or shut up” about the unfounded accusations of antisemitism.which you and some others toss around without giving the slightest thought to the damage you’re doing – by trivializing the term “antisemitism” and robbing it of all meaning – to LEGITIMATE campaigns against Jew-hatred.

            • Mad Cow Miranda your excuses are as lame as your warnings.
There is NOT any legal action you could take, you are either a blatant liar or completely ignorant of the laws of defamation.
Which you are, or probably you are both, does not matter.

What your use of ‘faux’ legal language and misquoting of the law shows is that you are as much a phoney as the others of your ilk on this site.
You do not need me, or anyone else, to bring you into ridicule or contempt you manage that very well yourself with your ‘posts’ on this site.

You can stand on your head, but you can’t stand the law on its head.
While you are standing on your head, or standing upright it does not matter, take your warnings or threats and shove them up your fat anti-Semitic arse!

Is that clear enough for you, fatso?

  3. There is a symbiotic relationship between Zionism and antisemitism. Zionists promised a Jewish national home and simultaneous Jewish expulsion which is why in 1933 Hitler wanted the Jews expelled from Europe to the indigenous land of the Palestinians. Zionism as well as the State of Israel are therefore sustained by Jew hatred. If hatred of Jews disappears, Israel and (neo) Zionism become obsolete concepts which is pro-Israeli Zionist institutions need to invent antisemitism in order to sustain the fascist apartheid state called Israel. This explains the periodic witch-hunts and McCarthyite inquisitions of which the current Labour party travails are merely the latest manifestation.

    • Margrain you just don’t have a clue.
No wonder your so called degree is written in crayon on the back of a cornflakes packet.

      • Margrain: Your history is a bit off. In 1922, the League of Nations Mandate for Palestine created the predicate for the re-establishment of the Jewish people in their historic homeland by, among other things, giving them an internationally recognized right of return and close settlement (and it is instructive to compare that legal right to the fiction the Palestinians claim under a non-binding and conditional UN resoluton that the Arabs rejected).
Second, as to indigeneity, a pretty clear clue comes from what the people call themselves. Jews (Yehudi) hail from Judah or Judea. Arabs come originally from Arabia and settled the area in historic times. So we know when they arrived in any great numbers: it was in the 7th Centruy as part of their imperial conquest sweeping out of the Arabian peninsula after Mohammed’s death. As a consequence, the Arabs are not indigenous. In fact, the Mandate for Palestine effectively, and properly, bestowed that mantle on the Jewish people.
Zionism, the national liberation movement of the Jewish people for self-determination, was in part a function of a millenial longing to return to their homeland but in the 19th century was furthered by the recognition that the safety of the Jews could only be insured in a country in which they were the majority. In a word, modern Zionism was made necessary by antisemitism as a matter of self-preservation. Your easy, and easily demonstrated as false, “facist and apartheid” slur suggests that you number among those who made Israel’s creation an historical necessity, so thanks for that – I guess.
As the Jews are historically the “canary in the coal mine,” the day that antisemitism ends will be the day that all racism ends. In that golden moment where universal brotherhood and sisterhood are the order of the day, then all nation states (not just the Jewish one) will be unnecessary. Until then ….

        • I’m not going to take to heart criticism from someone who thinks “Hasbarist” is a game-winning insult.

    • Margrain,
Your latest post is absolutely hilarious!
“indigenous land of the Palestinians” lol What’s the indigenous name?
Nazism AND McCarthyism together? Zionists are now persecuting the British Labour Party? I can’t stop laughing.

Margrain, you are making a name for yourself!

    • Specious reasoning, Margrain. It’s like claiming that the reason that diseases exist is because we have doctors. You would get rid of the doctors in the belief that it would cure all diseases.

Antisemitism is a disease, Margrain. Zionism is one of the most effective cures, and even if there were no antisemitism, Zionism would still fulfill a healthy need for reinvigorating the Jewish people all possible directions in the modern era. A Jewish State, the only one mind you, is also good for the rest of planet as well.

        • Migraine, You do have a disease – which you share with the 7/7 bombers, 9/11 hijackers, beheaders of Lee Rigby, Charlie Hebdo attackers, Bataclan attackers, San Bernardino attackers, Pan Am 103 bombers, Metrojet attackers, Luxor attackers, Mumbai India attackers, Nairobi mall attackers, Boston Marathon bombers, Brussels bombers, 1972 Olympics attackers, ISIS, Al Qada, Hamass, Hezbullah, Fascist Iran, Boko Haram, Taliban, Wahabbis, Salifis, Laboor Party, ,,,

        • Your disease is called terminal stupidity. All Jew-haters are essentially stupid, but you are a prize specimen in that regard.

    • “Jews expelled from Europe to the indigenous land of the Palestinians” – the stupidity and ignorance of the Jew-hater in a nutshell.

    • Yes, the word is “Margrain”, but it refers to the absurd rationalization of hatred of Israeli Jews. Sadly you are echoing the propaganda of the fascist agitator David Sheen who added his own interpretation of a rally supporting an Israeli soldier who was accused of killing an already disabled but not necessarily disarmed terrorist who had resisted arrest after knifing a Israeli soldier with lethal intent. He will be tried, and as best as one can determine from the media, the issue will be whether he truly believed the terrorist had a bomb under his coat.

At issue is what the word “them” means. As a fascist yourself, just like Mr. Sheen, you immediately distort the scene for maximal use as propaganda. Truth is as foreign to you as a wallabee is to an Inuit. But the truth may be that “them” may refer to terrorists who knife children, civilians and Israeli soldiers. And whereas I applaud your desire to provide a “safe space” for those who’s goal in life is to murder Jews, I must condemn your implication that “all Palestinians” are murderous assassins.

Sadly you follow in the footsteps of all fascists rush to condemn. Pitchfork and burning torch in hand, your reflexive is attack someone who does not even know you exist to respond – the tactic of a coward and a knave. Bigoted to the core you sally forth with your condemnation blanketing not just the individual, but the entire society that she is a part of, and in doing so you reveal that the very last thing you are interested in is justice, because you yourself are unjust.

    • Migraine asked:

      > Is there a word for the Israeli hatred of Palestinian’s?

      Yes, Resistance to Islamofascism.

Is there a word for the Sunni, Shiite, Wahabbi, Salifi, Muslim Brotherhood, Fascist Iran, Boko Haram, Taliban, Al Nusra, Hamass, Hezbullah, hatred of Infidels, girls who want an education, gays?

      Yes. Islamofascism.

      • The conflation of Islam and Palestinians with fascism is racism which is why you are the neoZionist fuckwit you are.

        • The Islamofascism and racism of Al Qada, ISISI, Taliban, Boko Haram, Muslim Brotherhood, Hamass, Hezbullah, Al Shabab, Al Nusra, Fascist Iran is REALITY.

250,000+ dead in Syria – no Israel, just Islamofascism that is already flooding into Eurabia. How long until 7/7, Charlie Hebdo, Bataclan, Lee Rigby, Yvonne Fletcher, Brussels is repeated in Eurabia? I’ll bet not long. The Intelligence services in the UK only have to slip once, and hundreds or more will die.

    • Margrain,
Norman Finkelstein is a very sick puppy. So much so, that one can actually feel some sympathy for him personally, without ever acknowledging his positions. You, on the other hand, while being a real sicko in denial, are not worthy of sympathy.

      • In Nazi Germany antisemitism was regarded as normal and opposition to it was abnormal. In other words, mental illness is, to a large extent, socially defined.

        • Very much like so-called anti-Zionism today on the British and European Left as well as less than liberal muslim circles in the UK and on the continent. This is the foul air from which your lungs draw sustenance.

  4. Antisemitism is Zionisms life-blood. Numerous careers and vested interests – including those of the British Board of Deputies – depend on sustaining the myth that antisemitism is a problem within the Labour party. Meanwhile, in Israel, victims of genuine antisemitism within the fascist state that “shows signs of 1930s Germany”, Holocaust survivors live in poverty, are marginalized shunned and treated like second class citizens:

  5. Meanwhile, Israeli Minister of Justice, Ayelet Shaked, announced that she plans to promote the “Norms Bill,” which aims to give the same legal rights to settlers living beyond the Green Line as Israeli citizens living within it.
If approved, the law would in effect apply Israeli law to Jews living in the West Bank, widening the gap between the settlers and the Palestinians, who abide by Israeli military law.

Equality and justice? But not for the Palestinians on the West Bank.

And the same Minister of “Justice” claimed that criticizing Israel is antisemitic. But apparently, the absolving by Netanyahu of Hitler’s responsibility for the Holocaust is not antisemitic. She cited the UK Labour party’s (non-existent) antisemitism problem to promote a wider point regarding alleged claims of the growth of antisemitism throughout Europe. Unsubstantiated tosh of course, but her claims do feed into a far wider narrative that’s intended create or exaggerate antisemitism in order to foment it rather than mitigate against it.

There’s a reason why Zionism needs to exploit claims of antisemtism. Firstly, there are many prominent careers and vested interests at stake – the UK Board of Deputies and the John Mann witch-hunt brigade among them. Secondly, the demographic time-bomb is ticking in Israel. The last shreds of a pretense of democracy will dissipate when a majority of its population enjoys second-class citizenship, and is crowded into poor Bantustans, while the space it used to live on is allocated to the minority. Hence, in the face of falling immigration by the diaspora, as well as an increasing tendency for immigrants to decide they don’t like the place after all, and go back, it’s seen as necessary to whip up the fear in the diaspora by exaggerating every single instance of prejudice that can be discovered.

In the UK the far-right has such poor support that it is not a credible threat – unlike, for example, Hungary, where a very sizeable proportion of the public is openly antisemitic, without much comment in the UK media. The few unreconstructed voices on the business-hostile Left offer more leverage in several directions, and serious pressure can be brought to bear by the Israel-aligned businessmen who fear the Left’s ideology; two birds with one stone, so to speak. The kneejerk response may be just what Israel (UK) wants, especially since the utter cunt Regev arrived.

    • Jews living east of the green line have no rights at all under Palestinian law. Neither do Jews living west of the green line. In a legal sense, neither do most Palestinians. President-for-life Abbas is in the 12th year of a 4 year term. The only way he’s leaving is in a box. The PA is a fascist kleptocracy and Hamas is fascist theocracy with equally light fingers. No wonder they hate each other – they are very much alike.

If Israel wasn’t in they way it would be another Arab civil war, just like in Syria and Iraq, not even up to the current Mexican standoff in Lebanon.

The difference between an antisemitic anti-Zionist and a pro-Palestinian advocate is that the former spends all their effort bashing Israel, and the latter actually cares about improving Palestinian society from the inside. Alas Margrain you fall into the category of the former, not the latter.

      • 95% of them (or probably more) are like this particular specimen: they simply hate Jews and care not a hoot for the so-called ‘Palestinians’.

    • Pal-e-SWINIANS belong in Pal-e-SWINE. That’s the EAST Bank of the Jordan River, as long a King Abdullah doesn’t find Pal-e-SWINIANS a threat to his reign.

        • IslamoFASCISTphobe. You try to sweep 7/7, Lee Rigby, Charlie Hebdo, Bataclan, Brussels, Muslim rape gangs under the rug, but you will fail because events will undermine your pathetic attempts to whitewash Islamofascism.

    • Margrain never before has so little been written in so many words, as in your post above.

I may have been born and grew up living near the sea, but even years later the smell of candyfloss and donkey shit are nauseating. Your, over long and bombastic, post has managed to combine the two so the stench of candyfloss and donkey shit permeates it from the start to the finish.

  6. Good list, but why is Lauren Booth even bothered with? Her only claim to fame was being the PM’s black sheep personna non-gratta sister-in-law, which is why she was picked up by Al-Jazeera. Blair’s no longer PM, and Booth is nothing more than an historical footnote.

    • “Good list, but why is Lauren Booth even bothered with?”
True, she is a big zero, with an even bigger ass, and obviously a poor self image that led her to submit to Islam IMV. She is however, a very public antisemite, no?

      • I read that lauren booth became a Muslim. Did she go ALL THE WAY, and undergo (and her daughters too) the FGM (Female Genital Mutilation)?

  7. These are the last few paragraphs from a very good article in “Prospect” magazine by John McTernan.

“The excuse, which is widely used by Labour members, is that it is not anti-semitic to criticise Israel. But that is a profoundly dishonest position because it conceals something. Israel is criticised not for what it does as a nation or as a people—how could it be? What happens is that policies of the ruling Likud party, the Israeli government, the Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu or even of groups within Israeli society like the settlers are held to be the responsibility of the whole country. They aren’t. Any more than the poll tax was Britain’s fault.

This deliberate and dishonest elision of difference is behind the campaign on campuses to brand Israel as an “apartheid” state. Again it is not—Israel is a modern democracy with rights for citizens which are enforced by a Supreme Court, even against the government. This is the thinking behind the Boycott, Disinvest, Sanctions (BDS) movement too—applying uniquely to Israel campaign tactics previously only used against the real apartheid state of South Africa. Russia, which has annexed part of Ukraine—a neighbouring independent country—and fomented and supported a civil war which has virtually partitioned it, faces no such campaign.

The casual anti-Semitism of Naz Shah, Ken Livingstone grows from a far wider set of attitudes antagonistic to Israel. Those are justified as anti-Zionist rather than anti-semitic—a distinction without a difference. Those making that case cannot actually identify what it is about Zionism they actually object to— it is just something that is “wicked” and criticisable. Anti-Zionism is the name by which those who do not believe that the state of Israel should exist advance their prejudice. No other country on earth faces constant and persistent calls for its abolition because of the actions of its government.

Labour will not solve its problem with anti-Semitism until it once more has a Leader who will openly and honestly say that they believe in the right of Israel to exist and they enforce that view through the party. If Jeremy Corbyn won’t change then he will need to be changed.”

      • Margrain as usual your hypocrisy is glaringly obvious.
You complain about the use of ‘ad hominem’ except when you use them.

Is that due to your hypocrisy or is your memory, like your knowledge of history, truth and logic, exceptionally bad?

        • “The casual anti-Semitism of Naz Shah, Ken Livingstone grows from a far wider set of attitudes antagonistic to Israel. Those are justified as anti-Zionist rather than anti-semitic—a distinction without a difference. ”

“Je suis Ken.” – Daniel Margrain

Miranda would say I’m putting words into his mouth, but we’ve all seen this quote in black and white (BTW, Miranda, that’s real black and real white).
