CST: First half of 2016 saw 11% increase in antisemitic incidents in the UK

CST just published its latest Antisemitic Incident Report, and revealed that the first six months of 2016 saw an 11% increase in antisemitic hate incidents in the UK compared to the same period” last year.

Here are some highlights from their report:

  • The most common single type of incident in the first six months of 2016 involved verbal abuse randomly directed at visibly Jewish people in public. In 195 incidents, the victims were Jewish people, male or female, attacked or abused while going about their daily business in public places. In at least 87 of these incidents, the victims were visibly Jewish, usually due to their religious or traditional clothing, school uniform or jewellery bearing Jewish symbols.
  • Social media has become an essential tool for coordinated campaigns of antisemitic harassment, abuse and threats directed at Jewish politicians, student activists and other individuals, often using content generated centrally on neo-Nazi websites. CST recorded 133 antisemitic incidents that involved social media in the first six months of 2016, comprising 24 per cent of the overall total of 557 incidents.
  • Over three-quarters of the 557 antisemitic incidents were recorded in Greater London and Greater Manchester, the two largest Jewish communities in the UK.

  1. No mention of antisemitism on Muslim websites or from Muslim Labour party members. Or is the fact that so much modern antisemitism comes from Muslim sources too delicate to mention for the CST?

    • I’m sure if you have some reliable statistics on this, the CST would love to hear from you and can incorporate them into their next statistical research report.

  2. May I just say what a comfort to uncover somebody that actually knows what they
are talking about on the internet. You definitely know how to bring a problem to light and make it important.
More people have to look at this and understand this side of the story.

I was surprised you are not more popular because you most certainly possess the gift.
