UKMW prompts Evening Standard correction to story on Tamimi sentence

We noticed a significant omission in a March 23rd report at the Evening Standard, on the sentencing of Palestinian teen Ahed Tamimi for assaulting an Israeli soldier outside her West Bank home late last year, which we pointed in a tweet to the journalist.

We contacted editors, who upheld our complaint and amended the passage to note that Tamimi will be released in five months to take into account time served.

A Palestinian teenage protester has been sentenced to eight months in prison for slapping and kicking a pair of Israeli soldiers outside her West Bank home.

Ahed Tamimi, 17, accepted the sentence as part of a plea bargain following a case which has sparked uproar in the Middle East and attracted international attention. Taking into account time already served, she will remain in prison for a further 5 months.

  1. “She will remain in prison for a further 5 months.” Is there progress here? “Incarcerated” is a much stronger word and would support the official narrative.

  2. Far more important than pushing for the correction of this relatively minor error would have been insisting that the media organs in question cover this hate-filled teenager’s murderous incitement and the crimes committed by other members of her family – see, for example, Petra Marquardt-Bigman’s http://blogs.timesofisrael.com/ahed-tamimi-and-the-normalization-of-terrorism/. Because official Israelis decided to cave in and not go on the offensive, the most eloquent defenders of Israel have yet again been let down.

    • Yes, Israel has been very weak on PR for decades and very weak in stamping down on terrorism.

    • How dare you criticize Israeli officials ? You are obviously a left-wing self-hating fifth-column Jewish traitor if you dare to question the infallibility of any Israeli official.

        • Leah, IMO, there are two ways to deal with Trolls like torsion and Farmer. 1, you can ignore them and hope that they tire out from their constant spittle-flecked blather. They often don’t as Farmer continues to carp his ignorant nonsense. 2, engage them. However, don’t just engage. Attack! Respond to every post that the troll makes not just in threads in which you are already involved, but anywhere on the page. The troll will probably respond and that’s ok too.

Like I’ve posted before, every post, even if it’s deleted, increases the popularity of the site and the likelihood that others will find it on web searches. Very few slog through all the comments and the chances that the average visitor just happens to read a comment from the troll is very low. But, they can and are more likely to read Adam’s astute analyses. Since this site is pro-Israel, in effect, trolls like torsion and Farmer make more people aware of the bias found in British and Irish media. They can also link to BBCWatch and CAMERA and become further informed of the bias found just on the BBC and also in American and Canadian media.

      • Tell you what. Go to the nearest police officer or soldier in your country and slap him / her across the face and then report what happens here.

        • They should slap a police officer, Religious police officer or soldier from Fascist Irans Revolutionary Gestapo or Hamass.

          Let’s see what happens.

      • How dare you criticize Muslim terrorists? You are obviously a left-wing self-hating fifth-column Muslim traitor if you dare to question the infallibility of any Muslim official.

  3. It should read, “A ‘Palestinian’ teenage delinquent has been sentenced to eight months in prison for slapping and kicking a pair of Israeli soldiers AND inciting violence outside her Arab settlement.”
