You may have missed it, but Palestinian terrorists tried to kill Jews again

One of the benefits of our transition from focusing entirely on the Guardian to monitoring all UK media outlets is that we’re now better able to contextualize Israel related news reports and op-eds we analyze.  Whilst the Guardian’s coverage still suffers from institutional anti-Israel bias, over the last several years we’ve noticed a slight but noticeable improvement.

We’ve also reached the conclusion that the Independent’s coverage is the worst out of all the major British media outlets we monitor.

Indeed, if you were to base your understanding of the summer 2014 war between Israel and Hamas solely on the Indy’s coverage, you’d almost be forgiven for believing that Israel just bombed Gaza for 51 days out of some sadistic impulse to inflict pain and suffering on the civilian population.

Context regarding rocket fire on Israeli towns and the use of human shields by a genocidal antisemitic movement known as Hamas was almost completely absent.

This brings us to the following tweet by the Independent (to their two million followers) on the latest incident in Gaza:

Most who saw the tweet wouldn’t have read the article, which actually is pretty clear that Israel was responding to rockets fired by Gaza terrorists, one of which landed between two houses in the southern city of Sderot.  (The IDF’s response targeted dozens of military sites in Gaza, causing no fatalities.)

What makes the tweet especially noteworthy is that the actual headline (“Israel hits Gaza Strip with barrage of air strikes in response to rocket attack by Palestinian Islamist militants”) was fair and accurate.

The Indy staffer responsible for the tweet decided to editorialize – suggesting to the herd of independent thinkers who take their coverage of the region seriously, that Israeli leaders just bombed Gaza again for no particular reason.

The Indy tweet got it completely backwards. It was Gaza-based Palestinian terrorists who made the decision one day – for no reason other than their ongoing desire to annihilate Israel – to fire deadly projectiles into Israel in hopes of killing as many Jews as possible.

But, of course, a tweet by the Indy with the words “You may have missed it, but Palestinian terrorists tried to kill Jews again” would cast Jews as the victims and Palestinians as the perpetrators – a moral paradigm at odds with their secular faith in original and immutable Zionist sin.

  1. I looked into the article, and was especially interested in the following paragraph

Sami Abu Zuhri, a spokesperson for Hamas, said Israel’s air strikes marked an “escalation” in the conflict, adding: “Its aggression will not succeed in breaking the will of our people and dictate terms to the resistance.”

So firing rockets, intended to kill human beings, is just something one does to pass the time, but if the people you’re trying to kill strike back, that’s “escalation”, and such escalation will not succeed in breaking the will of people who just happen to be firing a few rockets.

Could it be that we have found a new definition of chutzpah?

  2. Sigh … no, Al Guardian does not have an ‘anti-Israel bias’. It has an antisemitic bias.
    As does Al BBC.
And the Independent and C4 are respectively even viler and more antisemitic cousins of the above.

  3. Well done Independent, champion Liar for Palestine. Hope the lack of moral probity is worth it to you in some form or other.

  4. Why call them ‘Indy’ as if it’s worthy a friendly shortened version of it’s name, this vile, antisemetic media outlet only deserves to be referred to by it’s official name ‘Independant’ or some derogatory variation.

  5. Tweets are not signed but the whole media site has acknowledged that this one reflects their bias by not deleting it after attention has been drawn to it here

  6. Israel should expect no “understanding” whatsoever from these Jew haters. It actually frees Israel to bomb the crap out if the savages because it will get nothing but hatred either way. Israel should not play “victim.” It should accept the role of avenger and get on with it.

    • Israel has never had the role of “victim” just like Holocaust “Survivors” are “Survivors” and not Holocaust Victim. This stands in contradistinction with the “Palestinians” who are the world’s “victims” and will always remain “victims” due to the way in which the West is embedded with antisemitism on the one hand, while on the other hand, treat Palestinians as “colonial” ie they have no expectations of the Palestinians other than rage, violence, whining and perpetual narcissistic demands for money ad infinitum.

      • Without the role of victim, Israel would not have a state nor wouls it have been constantly appeased over the recent murderous decades. It is a wicked state as history will witness.

            • Which true history are your referring to?

              – 9/11?
              – July 7 2005 London transport bombings?
              – Charlie Hebdo?
              – Bataclan?
              – San Bernardino?
              – Orlando?
              – Beheading of Lee Rigby?
              – Beheading of journalist Daniel Pearl – and others?
              – Pan Am 103?
              – Death fatwa on Salman Rushdie?
              – Murder of filmmaker Theo Van Gogh?
              – Fort Hood?
              – Boston Marathon bombing?

      • By acccepting dependence upon US aid, Israel casts itself as a victim because it is not its own master. It instead must dance to the tune of a Jew hating President of the United States. Israel needs to cut that cord and go about the business of defendoing itself by destroying its enemies.

          • You, Mr. Farmer, are a Jew hating bastard. You will rot in Hell as we continue to prosper.

          • “Israel needs the US to survive.”

In case you hadn’t noticed the citizens of many countries across the globe need the ‘US to survive’, and hopefully prosper, so that we can trade with them.
Farmer you really are an illiterate pillock.
If, as I suspect, you mean that Israel needs the support of the US to maintain its independence and freedom, then you might also ask the people of the Ukraine how they would be maintaining their independence and freedom without the support of the US and NATO.
Or are you like a lot of ‘Corbynistas’ sorry that Putin’s tanks are not sweeping across Eastern Europe, with their iron fists and heels on the throats of the Ukrainian people and crushing the independence and freedom out of them?

              • Even the anti-Semitic behaviour and active support of the Holocaust by many in the Ukraine, Poland, Hungary etc. does not justify the occupation, or threat of occupation, by Putin and his tanks.
I note that the same charge of “they are/were all Fascists in the Ukraine” is the same excuse used by Putin and his henchmen.
